I do a firmware update using the Nokia PC suite
I setup my account for Mfe and it works fine.
try to sync it and all is well wit the world.
I setup a wireless connection using the internet connections and try to sync with server and i start getting ' Either the exchange server requires secure connection or account is either disabled"
Any subsequent attempts to sync yield the same error. Deleting the wireless connection does not help either.

Anyone else tried these steps or face similar problems or notice this pattern?

Cryptic. Reboot does not help either, right?

Thank you in advance.

I have not filed a bug, but I found a solution.

When I configure the mail for exchange settings I only select calendar and contacts. And when the first initial sync is finished I enabled email sync in the settings..

So, guys, I am waiting for your feedback. What are the worst problems you experience with MfE solution for Maemo?

I yesterday received N900 and MfE functionality is vital to me. The first sync with MfE 2007 server went without problems. However, it appears that none of the following syncs has been successful. I always get error message:

Error: Either Exchange server requires secure connection or account is disabled.

(The connection is marked as secure, port 443. And why are two distinct reasons combined into a single error message?)

OWA 2007 shows:

[This is N900, only the first successful sync:]
SmartPhone Fri 12/4/2009 07:13 OK
First Sync on: Thu 12/3/2009 18:42
Last Successful Sync: Fri 12/4/2009 07:13
Device ID: 3569380303*****
User Agent: UQExchange/1.0

[This is E71, not anymore in use:]
IMEI3529240245***** Thu 12/3/2009 17:44 OK
First Sync on: Thu 9/17/2009 23:29
Last Successful Sync: Thu 12/3/2009 17:44
Device Friendly Name: Nokia/Mail For Exchange
Device ID: IMEI3529240245*****
Device Model: NokiaE71
Device OS: 00.21.012
Device IMEI: IMEI3529240245*****
User Agent: NokiaE71/2.09(158)MailforExchange

What does the error message mean? Is there some fundamental reason why N900 MfE does not work?

Actually, it appears that some of the syncs are successful and some fail. It might be related to certificates, because I remember getting certificate errors every now and then in E71???? (In E71, you could accept a certificate even if it appeared invalid)

There is for some reason different if you start the mail setup wizard from the settings menu and chose mail for exchange and start the setup wizard if you open email from the menu.

So I had to start it from the settings menu and mail for exchange.

Hope this helps!

N900 Mail for Exchange

Hi all,

Got the device finally and it is indeed amazing device, but I have small problem with the mail for exchange. I didn't find solution from other threads so far. Mail works perfectly, I have setup the mailbox to sync e.g. between 30minutes.

Problem is that it will sync ONLY if the internet connection is ON. If I close all internet connections (mainly to avoid battery run out too soon) it doesn't automaticly connect to internet and sync the mailbox every 30 mins. For example in E55 phone automaticly connects into internet for sync as scheduled and then automaticly closes the connection after completed.

How can I setup the N900 to act in the same way as e.g. E55 Mail for Exchange? Any ideas?

Did you save the certificate for your server manually? M4E on N900 does not save for you like E71. Some have had success, others not depending if your IT department allows non-provisional devices.

I did not save any certificates manually, I just set up MfE settings through the wizard and the initial sync was successful. (Actually I was amazed at that point of time how easy it was to set up.)

However, after the initial sync, the phone has synced successfully only very occassionally (probably 1 in 100 attempts is successful or something like that). If set to automatic sync, the error message is displayed repeatedly on phone display, which makes phone basically useless so I have now set MfE sync to manual.

After reading the forums, the reason could be also that our Exchange server enforces password on the device.

Is it possible to say from the error message that I am getting ("Error: Either Exchange server requires secure connection or account is disabled.") if this is related to the password enforcement or is it some sort of certificate issue?
