Ive read through this whole post and had been following it before my n900 arrived. I was surprised to find that LEAP authentication didnt work when it arrived which was my first hope to get exchange working. Since that is absent my only hope is OWA on MfE. I understand that symbian and maemo are much different but I figured support for using MfE with the OWA address would work. Is this possible or are there any plans to support this? My company is apparently too paranoid and wants to keep me out...:(

OWA and MfE are entirely different systems - they may well be running on the same server though. The other requirements are Exchange 2007 SP1 or above, and non-provisionable devices enabled (Exchange 2003 support should be in the next firmware release).

...yep - the "internal" guys (not only in this thread) seem to be more busy then the last weeks. Looks like the "before Xmas" firmware is on it's way.

There is any hope what Maemo 6 will work with exchange 2003? When can we get next release of Maemo?

Please read first, the answer to your question is in the very first post of this thread:


"sw. update" does not mean the next version of Maemo, but the next firmware update for Maemo 5, which should be released in the coming weeks, hopefully before christmas, but certainly not too long after that.

So then how is it that I can setup MfE on S60 with an OWA address and get calendar and mail to sync but I can't on MfE for Maemo? Sorry I guess I wasn't exactly clear in my previous post that I was relating it to my experience with S60.

In MfE for S60 it allows me to put the OWA address, where on Maemo it won't let me continue because it claims that address is not correct, doesn't even let me attempt. I understand they are different builds but I thought they were based off the same core functionalities.

that info didn't really come through in your previous post...

that's not an MfE issue in my opinion, rather a networking issue. do you use a fully qualified domain name as address, or just the "internal" name of the server?
are you able to browse to that address in the N900's browser?

the OWA server has to be accessible from outside your local network (read: from the internet) if you plan on updating the N900 via 3G or similar.

Yea sorry about that, responded from the N900. Still getting accustomed to completing thoughts on it ;)

As far as my OWA address it's accessible externally. URL is like https://webmail.companyname.com/exchange

If I enter that in my browser I can get my e-mail. If I enter that for my server address on S60 I get my e-mail pushed to me regardless of connection type. Which is what I'm trying to achieve here with Maemo. Until LEAP encryption comes to the N900 and my company switches to 2007 (probably 2012 at this point) I'm out of luck completely. I've requested for IMAP over Exchange support but I'm not holding my breath...

I also used this OWA address on Blackberrys in the past and has worked (I understand a very different protocol, but just for reference).

I've no idea why that address works with MfE on S60 - presumably it's stripping out the server name internally. The address you'll need to use with the N900 is just webmail.companyname.com, and make sure that you have SSL enabled in the configuration.
