Re: Amazon?

I just got off a chat session with NokiaUSA. They told me the n900 $50 rebate does not apply to the n900 phones they sell and that they charge sales tax to my state (Alabama). I already have a 11/20/2009 pre-order with Amazon for $529. NokiaUSA's lack of rebate and added sales tax makes the Nokia version cost me about $117 more than the Amazon version. So I guess I'm gonna have to wait on Amazon to ship.

Did anyone ever find out from Amazon whether the rebate goes away if Amazon doesn't ship your phone until after the rebate expires? The NokiaUSA chat session guy told me that that info would have to come from Amazon.

thats ******ed of nokiausa. i don't see why you can't use the rebate for your order on nokia's website. the rebate form doesn't say you have to buy from select retailers.

the rebate form on amazon will not go away. they usually leave it up for a month (i think) after the expiration of rebate.

The rebate will go away, however you can email the customer service and point out the rebate expires Jan 7th and that you may not get your phone from Amazon to then. What they did for me, and one other user on here is that they said if they don't have the device to me by the 7th then they'll take care of the credit (probably in the form of Amazon credit).

But you have to email the customer service and ask them. If you do nothing you'll just be out $50 (cash, amazon credit, whatever).

I followed others' footsteps and wrote to Amazon expressing my concern on receiving the device after the rebate expired. I got the same response that Amazon will honor the rebate if the shipment doesn't arrive in time. Why don't you giving it a try?

I really would prefer an N900 to a Bold 9700 but like I said, I won't take Nokia's or Amazons crap anymore so if I don't get a shipment status by Friday with my so called 'priority' status with Amazon I'm gonna cancel my order and never buy another Nokia device...for at least a year.

I just ordered from NokiaUSA today. the phone is shipping ....so they say.... but I asked 2 times directly and NokiaUSA will honor the rebate. There is nothing in the rebate form that says they will not honor the rebate.

Epi.

same here. im thinking of just not buying the n900 anymore and stick with my google ion (mytouch3g) phone for now. there are other phones im intrested in (X10, HD2, droid/milestone). but then a part of me saying to wait it out for amazon to ship. >.<

Re: Amazon?

Just read the Nokia prepaid Visa form and it says NOTHING about where the item was purchased aside form no dealers or group purchases.

I just pulled the trigger and ordered from Nokia. I was going to wait until Friday but with all the chatter read with respect to Nokia pulling the sale tomorrow I didn't want to take any chances. 70 dollars be damned. It wasn't the potentially slow shipping (I ordered in November) it was the lack of communication that killed it for me.

dramsey30 2009-12-01 00:37

Re: Amazon?

Don't you just love these conflicting results? I agree with you about the rebate form and what it says. If they honor the rebate then I only have the sales tax issue to worry about. Wonder if the sales tax would be on the full $569 or on $519 effective price. On another note, I bought from Best Buy and returned a Droid earlier this month. The camera really was bad. Slow to focus and pictures were really dreadful. That was the main reason I returned it. I loved the tight integration of voice with Google searches and for placing calls. And the Star Map application worked so well. You just held the phone up to the sky and had a labeled pictured of all the stars and constellations you were looking at.

Re: Amazon?

I just called NokiaUSA on the phone instead of chatting as I did earlier. The lady (this time) told me that the $50 rebate was not valid for the n900 ordered from NokiaUSA. So now I have the same answer from two different Nokia reps (no rebate) while we have others here who pointedly asked the same question from Nokia and got replies that the rebate was valid. Also she would not tell me the total order amount (including tax) unless she entered the order into her system. Sounds like a crap shoot to me... *smile* Guess I'll sit and stew some more. Maybe by next week the NokiaUSA order system will either have gotten fixed or totally died. I figure I can wait a while then order from NokiaUSA and still beat Amazon's shipping time by several weeks.

lstrike21 2009-12-01 01:27

Re: Amazon?

Let the reps show us on the form where it says it is eligible ONLY through 3rd parties. These reps are starting to remind me of the Amazon reps with their bogus information on shipping. I am going to mail mine out the day I get the phone and if I don't get the Visa card I am going to RAISE CANE.

ordered on nov 7. still says not yet shipped. I've checked my account on my G1 for the status and it said:

"one day shipping:
january 6 , 2010"

I'm really tempted to buy from nokia usa at this moment, but I keep hearing that the rebate won't work from some people and yes from others.

Where does it say that for you yellow man? All I have under order status is "Not Shipped yet". I'm curious to say if they're giving me any sort of estimate or not yet.

I love the HD2, when it comes to the 1GHZ snapdragon or huge gigantic 4.3" capacitive display--however, Engadget did an extensive review and during that review the reviewer stated that the phone OS would freeze up quite a bit probably because of WinMo OS which is known for freezing up. Besides the OS freezing up, which is annoying, he said, the phone itself is absolutely stellar.

One thing I don't like about the HD2 is that it doesn't have 32GB or even 16GB already built in, from what I've read it's probably only going to be 4GB embedded for us US folk.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nokia is purposely not sending Amazon their stock because Amazon got more pre-orders then Nokia did. Nokia know's people want their unit before Christmas and if Amazon can't ship the N900 because they don't have any stock, then Nokia know's we'll have to buy it directly from their website...thus more money...

Hmm....last day to jump on Nokia's deal. Since amazon recently sent out their shipment, when do you think Amazon will receive their next shipment? Couple of weeks? If only each shipment has more than like a hundred units...

Actually, that makes sense -- that would also explain why Amazon prematurely marked half their orders "preparing to ship" so that people couldn't cancel them and buy from Nokia.

I've bought hundreds of items from amazon over the years and have never seen something "preparing to ship" for more than 24 hours. But I'm approaching five days on this...

I'm the same. I do wonder if they're not holding their shipment out of concerns over the hardware issues that have been noted. Retailers (particularly walmart, but i'm sure amazon too) have been to known to do that with products they're afraid have a high return rate. That being said, it's pure speculation just like everything else. I highly doubt it's malicious though, amazon works very hard to maintain customer loyalty. They've bent over backwards for me in the past.

Of course it's speculation but their action's speak louder than their words and everything is pointing towards Nokia holding back Amazon's shipment. It's hard to believe that Nokia has a huge amount of stock so anyone can buy it yet Amazon, Newegg, Dell, BLT ( or w/e it's called ), doesn't have any stock...that's what is suspicious.

Well that would work if Nokia didn't track IMEI's. If you try to return the unopened box you received from wherever to Nokia you'll get caught when the IMEI's don't match. I am not so certain on Nokia's return policy, especially for opened items.

I was going to do this when I was at the Flagship store in Chicago with my best friend as he bought his, I noted the IMEI on the receipt and realized it wouldn't work.

He's not saying that. He's saying keep your order with Amazon ( since it's cheaper ), but order from Nokia right now ( since they have the product in-stock and you will get it the next day ). If somehow in the next two weeks you get shipping confirmation from Amazon ( Nokia's return policy is 14 days hence two weeks ), return the phone to Nokia and get a refund from them, that way you get your N900 and the cheaper price from Amazon.

Too true. About the only thing keeping me from jumping ship from Amazon are the stories of people getting their card cancelled because they dared use a non-USA billing address that didn't exactly match the shipping address.

Yeah, by choosing Amazon we clearly backed the wrong horse. Still, I have hopes that mid-November orders will ship before Christmas. After all, every angry cancellation is another place in the queue...
