Re: N900 review from a Maemo noob
Hello,
I was wondering if you could possibly post your experience with voip on the n900. I tried fring on the tmobile g1 and it was horrible, there was huge delays in the conversations. Also, is there any google voice integration built in? |

Using the internal data connection was more dicey. I've only got EDGE server where I live. There was a lot of drops outs and my voice mail to myself was cut short due to the drop outs. So probably no VoIP for me until T-Mobile rolls out their 3G service locally. There is an application called DialCentral which has Google Voice application functionality. So everyone should have no problem using Google Voice on the N900. With the use of Teleparth framework we have the potential for some great integation. Google Voice could be added and integrated into the N900. The possibilties are amazing. I don't think any Smartphone on the market would do such a thing. Having Google Voice as one of the call types under the Phone application. Having SMS message from Google Voice showing up in Conversations and having the notifier server letting you know hen your have new GV voicemail and SMS messages. Absolutely mind boggling. |
Re: N900 review from a Maemo noob
I've been asking questions on here for a while. Simple questions and I seem to be completely ignored.
I thought the device might be buggy but I'm throughly impressed. However the forum is a let down imho |
Re: N900 review from a Maemo noob
It's going to be quiet from the US forum posters. Today is a major national holiday (Thanksgiving). Virtually everything shuts down for Thanksgiving. I just got back from dinner with my famiily a while ago. I'll try to answer questions a best I can.

Or your can enable the Maemo Extras repo(sitory) under the App Manager. Fire up the App Manager. Tap on the bar where it save Appliction Manager (and blue arrow). Tap Application Catalogs. Tap on Maemo Extras. Uncheck the 'Disabled' field and have 'Save'. App Manager will download the index for the Extra's repository and you'll see all of those applications under the Download section of App Manager. Maemo Extras are the vetted free applications that people have developed on and hosted on the Maemo.org site. There should be lots more apps coming as applications Maemo 3/4 applications are updated for Maemo 5. |
Re: N900 review from a Maemo noob
The NES emulator is in the Maemo Extras Testing Repo. So it's not quite ready for prime time. But if you are a bit adventeruous. You can add that Repo yourself. App Manager -> Tap the menu area -> Application Catalog -> New Button
Catalog Name - Maemo Extras Testing Web Address - http://repository.maemo.org/extras-testing/ Distribution - fremantle Components - free non-free Fill in the field with what I typed above and type Save. After you exit the menus dialog, App Manager will download the index for Maemo Extras TEsting. And the NES eumulator should be there: 'ines' I don't know about themes at the moment. I'll still looking at them myself. |
