How to access Mplayer on the N900
Pretty much what the title says. I have it installed, but no matter where I look, I can't see to find the icon for it.
|
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
I believe it is command line only. Install KMplayer for an icon.
|
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
Better remove it, it is not optified and takes 18MB space in root.
|
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
And it s not available in extras. You shouldn't install extras-devel and extras-testing repository if you don't know how to launch an application from xterm.
Ya, this is a disclaimer, but as the current maemo player can't read not encrusted subtitle, i can understand that you require mplayer. If you know how to use a terminal, launch it ... go to your movie folder (by using cd). And type 'mplayer mybeautifulmovie.avi' That's it |
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
Khertan, thanks a lot for the disclaimer, as many people unfortunately do not warn users on -testing and -devel. :-(

Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
Is gmplayer optified?
|
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
There isn't gmplayer included, and no mplayer isn't optified
|
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
I created a very simple front end "SiB" for MPlayer on N900 which works quite similar to GMPlauncher which came with the pre-N900 MPlayer. It scans folders for video files and stores individual resume positions.
Even if MPlayer is not optimised for the N900 yet I still prefer it over the Media Player as it supports subtitles and can be controlled via keyboard. If you like to try you can find it on extras-devel, but please don't go there if you don't know what your doing and don't want to break your shiny new gadget! |
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
yep, mplayer worked and i was even able to play *mkv file i have on my HTPC server.
|
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
Hmm.. Mplayer is alot faster at loading the video file for me than the standred Player. I have a flv file that the standerd player shows the 4 dots for like over a minute before playing. Mplayer just starts it right up.
I guess i can remove the devel version once an optifed version comes out. |
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
When will the mplayer (finalized version) be available for the general public on N900? I am looking for a video player that can play movies along with separate subtitle file (.srt) and also be able to play .flv Flash videos.

Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
when trying trying to install SiB I get

Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
I have installed SIB player and Mplayer Movie Player. But i am not able to get SIB player started. It opens with a blank screen and closes after few secs.
Is there something else that needs to be done to make SIB player work? |
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
I think this is related to the latest QT4.6 updates. Who is the developer of SIB?
Best regards, Corwin |

because i had to use the NSU (OTA didn't work for me) the phone became reflashed and the problem is gone since then. i think you need the PR1.1 installed to use SiB. if you're having problems try KMPlayer instead. |
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
I also installed Sib and it didn't launch.
|
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
There is a thread about it where I posted the cause (QT-Update from today has a removed method which is used in SiB (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...928#post482928)). This is unfortunate but should hopefully not be a problem. It is also neither the developers nor Nokias 'fault', just what happens on the 'bleeding' edge (and that name has a reason ;) ).
I also asked plastik (the developer) if he could have a look at it :) So hopefully it will work again soon. Best regards, Corwin |

Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
So MPlayer is an application to run media files from xtram? and KMPlayer is the MPlayer UI?
|
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900

while SiB is only mplayer - KMPlayer can use the default player (gstreamer/osso), mplayer and nnp. (you have to choose which one you like to use from a dropdown-menu) |
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
Whats wrong with SiB?
|

Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
I am happy with SiB, have not tried out KMplayer if you used both witch one do/did you prefer?
|

mhm... i have to say i prefered SiB because the gui was not so overloaded like the one of KMPlayer. but since the playback of some files differs (depending on the video-container) either on SiB or KMPlayer i like to change them to look where my video runs smoother. both GUIs have ups and downs. just try both of them and decide for yourself. ;) |
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
I keep it simple (thus why I was prone to try SiB) I use Gstreamer for everything unless it flat out doesnt work and then I try MPlayer.
For me Gstreamer plays my H264/AAC files way better than MPlayer, even my medium quality encodes tend to lag a bit and get out of sync on MPlayer. So its just a backup to cover the odd job files like MPEG2 that Gstreamer wont play. At some point I think the extra codec pack will have it so that one player handles everything without need to pick one. |
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
Same here, I am also attracted by SiBs simplicity. Does the job for me :)
|
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
lol. All of this just flew over my head. How do I access Mplayer? Is it something I need to download and install? If so, from where and how? I've noticed some choppiness in certain videos when using the default media player which I'd like to avoid. Please excuse my noobery.
|
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
do you know how to change the playback speed on mplayer?????
|
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
@ViciousXUSMC
Do subtitles work for you on SIB? Because for me, that is the main reason to use the command line version of MPlayer. Mplayer does indeed tend to stutter. For that reason I usually start up CPUFreq and overclock to 900 Mhz. Usually that does the trick for mplayer but occasionally, especially after long breaks, the audio gets out of sync and I restart. |
Re: How to access Mplayer on the N900
