I honestly can't think of a reason why you would want both accounts active at the same time.

I think I have experienced one server outage since I started using NM on my N85 about 12-18 months ago. That's as reliable if not more reliable than your Dutch account, which will probably experience their own outages from time to time.

Should you be concerned about server reliability then being able to configure both accounts, but disable one, would be a useful feature in which case you might want to vote for enhancement #6185.

Re: N900 Nokia Messaging settings - where are they?

Hi all,

I'm having problems signing up to Nokia Messaging. Once I get past the 1st step of the sign up process (providing your number and phone model) the website tells me that my phone model already has the latest Nokia Messaging software and that i have to sign up through the email program.

As far as I can tell, there is no provision for signing up to Nokia Messaging through the n900 email program. There's only the option for putting in the settings of an existing Nokia Messaging account.

Using the Maemo browser to signup also yields the same result as above.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

1. select the E-mail icon from the application menu (the icon with the @ sign),

2. click on the application menu at the top of the screen and select "new account" from the drop down menu.

3. select "next"

4. check that your region (eg. UK) is correctly shown (edit if required) and then press "other " on the "service proivider" field

5. this brings up a list which *should* include "Nokia Messaging" near the top (if not, try a reboot and/or wait a while)

6. From there on, it should be pretty intuitive, just give it the details of your desired mail account(s) & set your sync preferences etc.

7. once you do that and agree to the t's & c's, it should then set uo the nokia messaging acct for you, and selecting it will then bring up your own email account(s) within NM

Note - I just did this myself about 30 mins ago, and it took about 5 tries for it to complete the last step .. .it kept crapping out with an error (on a big orange banner) to the effect that it had problems with my mail account settings and that I should check them and/or try again later. it quoted a 4 digit hex code but I didn't note it down (I'm guessing 1fc0 or similar) - I hit "previous" to double check that my settings were correct (they were) and thereafter I just kept retrying after a few minutes wait and it eventually accepted them.

I have a question though - in the synchronisation options, I changed "Download Size" from the default setting to "header only" and saved it - however Inow see that the option is "dimmed" (unselectable) and set to ""partial message" - does anyone know why that is?

Re: N900 Nokia Messaging settings - where are they?

ok this is really strange. i dont understand the difference between modest and nokia messaging.

anyhow, because i want push e-mail, i tried to set-up nokia messaging and i've met no success. i went to their website first but there it said my device already has the latest version of nokia messaging. i surfed around on my phone and found no way to set up nokia messaging.

i opted to add a new account, chose nokia messaging as the service and it asked me for a username and password. someone here said ist quite intuitive from there on but i have no clue.

is that username and password supposed to be your nokia messaging username and password? what if you dont already have a nokia messaging account? anyway, i assumed that if its not a valid account, it will just take me to create a new account but no... it took me to the advanced settings page with most of my e-mail settings present. i clicked next and it set up my e-mail account on the e-mail client. how is that different from choosing "other" instead of "nokia messaging"? where is the push e-mail? what happened there? where is my nokia messaging account? :S

1. Go to email.nokia.com and create a new account

2. To configure email on N900, pick NM as the service and enter username/password you registered in step 1

Re: N900 Nokia Messaging settings - where are they?

well the mob no step will not make any difference jus click sign up put ny no and thn go to next step and add ur email. make sure password of that is same which u kept for email. nokia messaging uses that to get ur mails. on phone use the the credentials of this 1st id u created. it might take a while till ur able to log in. so sign up n thn keep trying on ur phone.

Re: N900 Nokia Messaging settings - where are they?

Does anyone know how to change the 'From' address in Nokia Messaging? I forward my real email addy to gmail, and want that address to show up in emails I write, not the gmail one.

sdesai 2010-03-29 12:17

Re: N900 Nokia Messaging settings - where are they?

why dont u straight away add that email id also instead of forwarding...i have created 2 emails ids hotmail and gmail using nokia messaging and u get 2 mail boxes accordingly. U go inside anyone and compose that particular email address will show up.

Same here. Had a glitch and have to reflash. Loss Nokia Messaging provider on Tmobile USA.

How can we get it back? I want to add my Yahoo mail to the push email.

Also. Is Tmobile USA block this? or what?

Confirming this. Nokia messaging sends back the operator code of the SIM and makes choices based on that. Nokia messaging did not show up with my Serbian Telenor or MTS SIMs (or when I booted without a SIM), but when I slipped in a Hungarian Telenor (pannon) SIM, it suddenly appeared. The regional/country settings made no difference. Once configured, however, it remained active regardless of which SIM I inserted (I was using Internet via WiFi all the time).

Also noteworthy is that I got a message that stated the message is a *TRIAL* service and there will be charges/requirements (a minimum rate/package size in my case) so I will not be using it after the trial ends.

Nokia have been saying that since Nokia Messaging became available as a Beta well over 2 years ago - ie. it is free while in Beta, but would/could become chargeable at the end of the Beta.

Frankly though, Nokia would be insane to try and charge for what is freely available on competing platforms, it's a bit like trying to charge for a browser. Nokia need Nokia Messaging to be free in order to keep their email client relevant - start charging for it and better/cheaper solutions will become available, or customers will buy competing products that have lower overheads. Either way, Nokia would lose, and I don't think they're that stupid - they've already decided to give away navigation, charging for email would be a backward step!

Re: N900 Nokia Messaging settings - where are they?

I have T-Mo USA and I'm not seeing it here either. I can't get "regular" Yahoo as an email client so I really need NM. I can't understand why there's SBC Yahoo and Yahoo Plus, without support to regular Yahoo.

I have T-Mobile USA as well and couldn't see Nokia Messaging settings. The solution is to put in a non T-Mobile USA sim card (I used an inactive AT&T sim), setup Nokia Messaging, then use your T-Mobile sim.

what do you mean by "inactive" AT&T sim, because i placed an old sim card from cingular and still was not able to see nokia messaging on providers list...

My sim card was in active service before with AT&T, but I cancelled service with them, so the sim card was deactivated.

I would think that your old Cingular sim card would work. The only other suggestion I could give you is try another non-Tmobile sim card.

Also this method works with PR 1.2. I had a T-Mobile sim card when I updated OTA. When the N900 restarted, I had to setup my email again. Nokia Messaging would not show up until I put in my deactivated AT&T sim card.

Re: N900 Nokia Messaging settings - where are they?

I have a problem.

Even though I got my Nokia Messaging back, it still won't sync. I had it syncing properly a day ago but now it just won't sync. Does anybody have the same problem?

I am using the TMobile 3G data plan with the address 'internet2.voicestream.com.'

Well my problem is that Nokia Messaging constantly prompts for my password and does not sync at all. I am sure I typed in the correct address but it continually prompt for my password every 5 minutes. Any ideas guys?

I had the same problem since "upgraded" to PR1.2.
The Nokia Messaging first not appeared until I put in a AT&T prepaid SIM w/ data plan, but neither using the AT&T nor T-Mobie allowed me to sync, it didn't show my 3 email accounts that had been setup in Nokia Messaging and working before, it only kept asking me for password

Despite I love the N900, my disatisfaction on Nokia's service is just keep growing.

I have tmobile here in the states and thankfully my nokia messaging settiings were preserved from 1.1.1 to 1.2 so I've been able to continue using nokia messaging.

However yesterday nokia messaging started prompting me for my password and has been doing so ever since... Dont know what happened or what changed but I'm now unable to get any mail through the service! Has anyone any ideas as I miss getting my email???

Re: N900 Nokia Messaging settings - where are they?

For a week since updated to 1.2, and I had to switch to an AT&T SIM to set it up, there is still no account shown up on the Nokia Messaging page, where I have been using 3 email accounts before 1.2 and I can still see them if I log into email.nokia.com on a PC.
It also keeps asking me for password once a while

Anyone knows what's going on?

Re: N900 Nokia Messaging settings - where are they?

Oh my... I'm so stupid - I missed this as well and set up two email accounts manually and have been using it that way for the last 6 months! Not bad, but I'll give the push email a whirl :-/

Re: N900 Nokia Messaging settings - where are they?

I have an N900 with vodafone UK & I re-flashed my phone last week as it was starting to struggle with some corrupted libraries after playing around with extras-devel packages.

So I grabbed the latest firmware and vanilla files and all sorted without a hitch.

However, now I try to set up Nokia Messaging again, every time it just tells me "Unable to contact e-mail provider. Please check your settings".

I know the email address is the one that I used to set up Nokia Messaging at http://email.nokia.com. I can log in fine there. Have I missed something that I need to configure somewhere?

pwannell 2010-07-31 10:33

Re: N900 Nokia Messaging settings - where are they?

I am having the same problems, before I reflashed I used to have a mail account called "nokia messaging" when click on that I would then have a choice of my hotmail account or my imap account for work. However now when I go to Service Provider "Nokia Messaging" it just adds my hotmail account as a standard account rather a Nokia Messaging account. This is beginning to REALLY annoy me.

AdeyG 2010-08-12 11:16

Re: N900 Nokia Messaging settings - where are they?

I found a bug in the BugZilla that covers my issue, though it is for an earlier version of the Firmware.

I've added a comment to the bottom to say that it also affects the latest version.
