How to install deb files in N900
Hello,
I want to install wiicontrol in my N900 and I've downloaded wiicontrol-1.04_all.deb from https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_id=234. I've tried to dblclick on it, but it showed me a list of application to use. Can anyone help me? Thanks p.s. I've no knowledge about linux :( |
Re: How to install deb files in N900
Hi,
First, please allow me to remind you that installing .debs directly is not recommended. You do not know what the source is, and as a general rule, installing a .deb is like running an unknown executable on Windows; only do it when you trust the source. That being said, you can open the X-Terminal, and type: dpkg -i <filename>. For example: dpkg -i /home/user/Downloads/example.deb Hope this helps, |

Or alternatively, the easy way, switch to Red pill mode.
There will be an option to install from file with a nice GUI, no need to type the commands. |

AppInstaller should be able to bring back the functionality to the file manager

anybody figurered out how to access "Documents" from the terminal? What makes it more difficult is not being able to access "tilda" easily.

/home/user/MyDocs/.documents/ Note the period infront of the '.documents' directory/folder. FWIW, names that start with a period are hidden from normal listing from the command line programs. They are listed by using a certain command switch on the commands. Typically configuration files use this naming. This nomenclature was developed to prevent all of the files from cluttering up file listings. |
