N900: What's in the box? CA-146C charger adapter included or missing?

I think I read in a review that the N900 comes with a charger converter so you can use the old Nokia chargers to charge the device. But my box does not have this. Have I been given an incomplete box or was the reviewer assuming it would be in the box because the converter came with the N97?

On a separate note I thought you could select to have the screen vibrate when you make a selection. I assume this is under Settings>Display>Touch Screen Vibration. I have that option selected but my screen does not vibrate. Do I have a faulty screen?

I got one with the pre-production loan unit, Nokia lent us at the Maemo summit in Amsterdam.

Please see the "What's in the box" section of the "Technical specifications" page on Maemo.Nokia.com. One Nokia CA-146C charger adapter should be in each box.

Correct on both counts.

You possibly have a problem with the vibration motor or its controller. When the function is working, you should, in addition feeling the vibration itself, be able to hear a small noise from the vibration motor each time it activates.

Re: N900 What's in the Box

On a slightly different note...it would have been good had Nokia included a nice leather case with the N900, like they do on the E series.

Re: N900 What's in the Box

I also didn't get the adapter, I contacted Nokia and they stated that it's not included in the retail packaging :(

Great ones on the E71 i have - but my E63 turned up this morning with no case - so it seems to be selected models only :)

Re: N900 What's in the Box

I just got the N900 from the NYC Flagship store and it also didnt have the charger converter. In fact I was searching high and low for the converter thinking it must be tucked in somewhere.

The charger converter was a great thing to have - so you could reuse the old chargers and also use my existing car charger.
Got to ask the store why this was left out if it indeed is supposed to be part of the retail box.

Edit : Just checked the N900 on the Nokiausa site for the retail N900 and it does not mention the charger converter on the "whats in the box" section though.

Re: N900 What's in the Box

Maybe there's a global shortage of adapters, which will explain why there appears to be plenty of stock in the US but none this side of the pond.

I just tried typing using the virtual keyboard and could feel very very light vibrations. That is the only time I have felt it. Is it only when texting you feel the vibration and is it meant to be very light?

My US retail box (not from the store but online) does not have "Nokia microUSB charger adapter CA-146C".

It vibrates everytime the screen registers a touch. It is very light. When I first starting using my N900, I got the initial impressiion that the build quality ws bad. I thought the slider mechanism was creaking every time I touched the screen. Eventually I got clued in as, the slide out seems solid and my squeeze test didn't reveal any creaking or twisting. After using the N900 for 5 days, I think it's a great feature. It gives some solid feedback when interactive with the device.

Re: N900 What's in the Box

I disabled it. Other touchscreens I've used have had a recognisable 'buzz' vibrate. My n900 gives a single response which does feel like something is loose. Or it's got hic-ups. It irritated me, so I turned it off.

I got the micro-adapter in the box. You can buy them for about £5 from a nokia shop or Amazon.

I got all the following. (US MODEL from amazon)

* Nokia N900

* Nokia Video out cable CA-75U
* Nokia microUSB charger adapter CA-146C

The touchscreen vibration was barely noticeable at first. Then it seemed stronger, and then the sound also seemed stronger, and eventually I disabled it because I thought it'd sound/look a bit silly in public.

So seems like the NokiaUSA boxes DO NOT have the adapter.
But Amazon USA boxes are providing it.

And all from UK retails boxes are also getting the adapter.

Very strange that different retailers and different regins have seperate contents.
But I will wait for my Amazon box in the US - hopefully I will get teh adapter - as I really would need that. But again not to hard to order seperately.

In Finland, mine had the charge adapter for using old chargers in the box. Seems same as N97.

My AC-10 konked out after leaving Amsterdam, so the CA-146C has been invaluable!

 I thought the CA-146C IS the USB data cable you use to connect to your PC?

Was yours security sealed? Mine was.

Amazon.com, US, no charger converter, but do have the microUSB adapter.

I wonder if you can call Nokia and ask about the USB charger converter.

Re: N900 What's in the Box

I think it varies depending on region. I remember with the N97, UK handsets didn't come with a leather case but the handsets in India did!

Nokia supposedly has such a small market share in North America, that the majority of possibly new Nokia users wouldn't be able to use it with their old iPhone chargers etc. It makes more sense to include one in the rest of the world where Nokia dominate.

Re: missing usb to regular charger adapter

This doesn't seem to be included in the US retail box - it's not listed in the box contents on the US Nokia site.

Re: missing usb to regular charger adapter

I called Nokia USA to order one, but it is not in their system, either. I guess one would have to get it from the UK or somewhere else?

I got mine straight from Nokia (well, Omnipoint). No such adapter, but it's not that big of a deal. I know a place where they have so many chargers that work with the N900, they sell them!

Re: N900: What's in the box? CA-146C charger adapter included or missing?

My box from Amazon USA did not have the charger adapter. My guess is that Nokia believes a larger percentage of people in the US who do not have old AC adapters that need converting so they chose to provide it elsewhere.
