Oh didn't see that. Sorry
any plans to let third parties make themes?

another thing...there was an error when i tried opening a friend's timeline. The connection timed out.

also, this ">" comes out as "&gt" on witter

i would love to get third party themes. just need to make time to figure out how to design support. in theory anyone could replace the icons in /opt/witter/icons
i'm not sure how extensively I could support themeing, icons yes, colour options probably. layout much harder.

as for connection timeout....sometimes that happens. blame twitter.

the > thing is tricky, the text formatting is done with pango which is like html, so that char unescaped has special meaning.

awesome work daniel.

how about once we double tap a tweet
all we see is reply, reply all, dm, fave and rt and follow
then when we click on follow, it gives an option on who all to follow??

love the updated UI

you mean rather than give buttons per person, make you go through another layer of choice for follow/unfollow/@user/history etc?
or you want to drop things like history/open url/translate?

Incidentally not seen any mentions of the translate option. Anyone else find that helpful? I often found myself wanting to translate tweets which is why I added it, but don't know if anyone else cares.

I meant like another layer, cause some retweets and posts looks awfully jumbled and cluttered

and I LOVE the translate button. I use it a lot. It makes reading tweets much easier

give 0.3.1-8 a whirl and see what you think. Is it what you had in mind?

Yesh, this is exactly what I wanted, as click it before would be so cluttered and spread out.

This is awesome. I think I am complete satisfied with witter now as my twitter app.

Kudos Mr. Daniel

so 0.3.1-8 is in extras-testing and at the moment I don't know of any defects.
I'm inclined not to work on any new features and maybe actually get this version into extras. (or fix any defects that would prevent that)
So please let me know if you find a defect.

The new version is fabulous especially the avatar view. Makes it now usable for me.
What is left is a better look, especially for the icons. Sorry, but it don't like those much :o. A bit more plastic or crystal style would be great. Volunteers?
Different color schemes would also round up the picture.

What I found is that the trends view does not show tweets but a bunch of http POST requests to the twitter search.

Additionally clicking the search button does not seem to do anything.

I believe this is all. Enough? :D

ok, those are feature requests not defects. SO whilst I am thinking about making it easier for people to contribute such themes, I don't think that is needed in this version.

what else were you expecting in trends? it tells you what the trending hash tags are and what the urls to them are?

have you searched for anything? you need to put your comma separated search terms in the input box before you hit refresh on the search view.
it will use those terms to provide search results.

so by my reading...still no defects ;-)

Re: witter - a python twitter client

Does anyone have witter running with a status.net instance? I actually try these parameters:

Type Identi.ca
user and password of my statusnet user
https://urlofmysite/statusnet/api
https://urlofmysite/statusnet/api

The site is self signed, but its root ca is inserted into the standard ca keyring of my n900.

When I try to fetch the feed list I get:

"Error retrieving tweets Server returned 401: not authorised: check uid/pwd" :-(

I am using 0.3.1-8 against statusnet 0.9.0 or statusnet git head. Is there anything wrong with my settings?

why are you using type identic.ca for something which is 'other'?
that probably isn't the problem, but i had intended 'other' would be used for anything not really twitter or identi.ca

run from commandline to get more info about what witter thinks it's doing.

Ill be willing to put foreward some icon designs.

What i would really like to see is all the buttons the same size, make it more uniform and will look much better! Also, maybe list support? As far as i could see, i couldnt find any.

Another thing, is the timeline window customisable, so I can edit the font sizes and colours etc?

Appologies if these have been answered, on my N900 and dont fancy going through 30 pages :P

Hm, sounds logical ;) Changed to "Other" and found out that you need to append a slash to the urls with "Other" (thanks to the command line started witter.py...)

https://myurl/statusnet/api/

But then the error again:

running tasks: 1
getting tweets with myuser
base url = https://myurl/statusnet/api/
base url of api object = https://myurl/statusnet/api/
fetching tweets from https://myurl/statusnet/api/statuses..._timeline.json
running tasks: 2
getting dms
running tasks: 3
getting mentions
end refresh setup
error
Error retrieving dms Server returned 401 : Not authorised: check uid/pwd
running tasks: 2
error
Error retrieving tweets Server returned 401 : Not authorised: check uid/pwd
running tasks: 1
error
Error retrieving mentions Server returned 401 : Not authorised: check uid/pwd
running tasks: 0

I checked the username/password stuff again (remember: the standard Gtk password field has the first letter upper case!) but I inserted the right credentials.

ok, so just dealing with a major bug which actually means 0.3.1-8 can't be used by oneone that hadn't configured an account before that version... doh!
so 0.3.1-9 will shortly be arriving.
(I knew if I claimed no defects someone would ping me with a serious one)

Button sizes seem to dynamically change based on what you put in them. I *thought* all my icons where the same size, but it has adjusted them anyhow, if you provide me icons that are the same size then maybe it will resolve that issue.

As for timeline, teh font size is adjusted with the rocker button on top to 'zoom' in and out.
the colours are not currently customizable (it takes much more time and code to make something configurable)

Thanks. Font size was the main thing i wanted to change! Is there any chance you can and a dark grey thin line underneith each twee to seperate tweets? At the moment i find it quite difficult to read.

When I get a litte spare time, ill try make some icons for you to see if it works.

I wish... I have set every option I can find to put lines between the cells and it just ignores me. I believe they are supposed to be under some kind of theme control, but I have no idea how to make that work.
If anyone can tell me how to force it to put line separators I would love to do that.

weird, I've seen no DM from you
I've not heard anyone else having that problem.
could you clarify which verison of witter?
and if possible run from commandline and see what output you get when refreshing the mentions view.

Just wanted to say that I love the recent updates to Witter and it's more than met the need! Great job!

Only other thing I could ask for is a desktop Widget that updates so I don't have to leave Witter open. After that it'd be perfect for me.

I have a bug to report :-/

When I'm in fullscreen mode and pressing the Timeline button in top left corner then nothing happens. In the example below, I'm on the Mentions page and cannot get back to the Timeline page in fullscreen mode. All other buttons work ok except the Timeline one. No problem in non-fullscreen mode. I'm running 0.3.1-9.

I noticed that my latest @replies weren't there either. But when I scrolled down, I noticed that recent @replies were in the middle of everything, as though they are randomly placed, instead of being sorted by date. I think I'm using the latest version, updated it last night via the app manager.

ah yes, for some reason the assumption that the tweet ID always increment,s and therefore highernumber == newer tweet is apparently not true. It is currently working fine for me, but perhaps twitter re-uses ids or something.
I did some initial investigation into sorting by date, but hit some very annoying issues with python's ability to parse the date string that twitter returns. looks like I'm going to have to write some custom parsing code. which I really couldn't be bothered to do the other day.
maybe later.

I have no idea what this means....you installed how? was this extras-testing/extras-devel? which version did witter claim to be for installation?
it's possible I've just added things which aren't correctly set in the depends info. but I probably need a better description of the problem.

It doesn't say anything. It is like the screen tapping doesn't reach witter. If I try many times hiting just at the bottom edge of the icon then it sometimes works and I get:

<hildon.Button object at 0x416f0580 (HildonButton at 0x3a2848)>
timeline

as response.

I have had no problems with screen response otherwise. I also tried recalibrating the display input but it didn't make any difference.

a couple of suggestions/ideas, can a long press on a particular tweet bring up a small dialog box (like in the email app). the box could contain basic options like reply, retweet and direct message.

another one is to make links in a tweet clickable

also, is there a way to view the public timeline of particular trending topics in witter?

Ah, this is a feature :)

I had expected to have the tweets from those search URLs (which however will produce dozens of tweets) or at least have them as links to click and open it in the search view them. Would come in rather handy.

Ah here we go. I thought it would include the saved searches from the twitter site the same way as the conversation plugin does.

Misunderstanding

ha, funny how things come around. originally the tap-n-old was how you got all the options and I was repeatedly asked to change it to double-tap.I'm not intending to revert.

making links clickable in the tweet is a ridiculously difficult thing to do, (unless anyone wants to tell me different) as It involves calculating what position a particular type of text happens to be displayed in right now in a pannable set of data. it's a nice idea, but even if I knew how to do it, I'm not sure it would be worth the processing cost.

you can use the trends view to find out what is trending and the search view to search for the trending #tag or whatever.....or have I missed something?

The trending topic thing was an idea I got from one of those iPhone Twitter apps. The trending topics are viewed as induvidual accounts. Not sure if I'm explaining it right.

double tap is a bit weird.. it's actually 'activated' since there doesn't seem to be a double tap event. this basically means if you click on a tweet, then click on it again you open the actions.
so if you are not selected, a double tap does as expected.
if you are already selected, then a double tap is fast enough to trigger the event twice.
if anyone knows a better event handle to use, please let me know
