Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
I think Nokia Messaging is so slow that sometimes is useless.. the updating circle is spinning and while it does that the inbox is not visible so you cannot even select the emails and read - shouldn't that process run in a background?
So I get a new mail and I have several Nokia Messaging accounts..I get a new mail.. I click on the notification images, it takes me to Nokia Messaging screen, now I need to figure out which account should I open????? (no icon no nothing) I click on the 1st account, the circle in the toolbar is spinning 'updating" I am waiting..................................finally I see the inbox . THEN I click on the inbox.. If there is no new email - I have to go back and to the same for another Nokia messagng account  Can we have combined INBOX like in blackberry? Obviously, the Nokia messaging is for people that get one to 10 emails per day. We really need something usable that I can access with one two keystrokes and not with 5 and what about that spinning updating all the time? why this is not a background process? |
Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
I get this too, also with 'other' mailboxes. Tell me, do you notice that when the inbox doesn't load, for some reason it is in capital letters and when it works, it is in lower case letters?

Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
well I do not even see the inbox when I first click on email account and the account goes into updating and the circle starts spinning.. I only see Drafts Outbox and Sent. After updating is finished I get Inbox..
I feel like I went back in time with email client and phone and... |
Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
Yeah, I'm getting that too. Sometimes the inbox isn't there or simply doesn't load. Other times it loads and shows inbox in capitals which when you click it, does nothing. Only works when it's there and in lower care letters. Sad, the only thing that annoys me as far as the software goes on the N900, but there again, it is a rather important feature.

Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
Is there a way to go directly to email account that received email?
how do I know which account received email? |
Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
How large is your inbox? If its over 1000 messages, the email client will choke. There is a bug filed in bugzilla. The fix is coming, but not for another month.

Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
I'm not seeing any performance problems with it, so variables like the inbox glut are probably a major factor.

Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
I have set up 2 accounts under Nokia Messaging
One has 2000 messages in the Inbox and the 2nd acount has only 153 messages. They both act the same. Please keep in mind that this is Nokia Messaging system.. |

Are you running on WiFi or GSM, or 3G |
Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
using Wi-fi..
also when you get a yellow/orange notification the new email arrived and you click on it, sometimes I get the email to show up directly on the screen but then the Delete icon is disabled. If I go Nokia Messaging>Select Account>Click Inbox>Click Email --- the delete button is enabled..(BTW why so many steps to access email?) |
Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
ok yeah there are loads of steps to access email and it sucks that you cant delete a email when you open it and have to go into inbox to find the mail then delete
on the point about finding out which account it is from (if you have multiple accounts) then when u open the message after click on the yellow notification you can tap at the top of the screen and then select message details and it gives you the to and from infomation thats the only work around i can think of for finding out which account it was sent to hope this helps |
Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
There is the same issue on my N900. I use Gmail on Google Apps through Nokia Messaging. I have about 5 messages in Inbox and the application is really really slow often.

I get the same lag issue when I opened messaging, so much so I've avoided setting up email since the reflash. |
Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
Weird. Wonder what I'm doing "wrong"... ;)

Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
Same problem here. Took 20s to open inbox (every time I opened it) with 5600 messages in it. Now I'm down to 700 messages and it comes up in roughly three seconds. 700 messages is roughly one month's worth. The rest of the messages are archived under the clients or under the folder "2009".

Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
Just to confirm I'm having the same problems.
I have tried to isolate the problem but it appears randomly. Sometimes it works fine, more than often it doesn't. If you click on the message when it appears you can sometimes delete it but sometimes not on account of whether the particular e-mail account is showing symptoms of this problem. It replicates across different systems. So within Nokia messaging some accounts may be fine but others not at the same time. It affects web based service providers like Hotmail, Googlemail, Yahoo Mail and Ovi Mail. It also affects direct 'other' accounts that are manually configured with standard IMAP mail hosting. I will try to think of other variables to exclude but I've tried every variation of settings that are available in the client and can't pin it down. |
Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
I should also add as it was mentioned, about size of contents of inboxes. I'm very tidy, mine are almost empty. It does appear to mainly affect the 'inbox' as even when it is unavailable other folders for that mail account can be accessed and some of my other folders that work fine do have a lot of things in them. It's quite easy to anticipate whether it will work or not. If the inbox shows up as "inbox" it's fine, if it shows up as "INBOX" it can't be accessed. What capitals have to do with it I don't know. ;-)

Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
I am having the same problems.
I do NOT have more than a max of 20-30 e-mails in my INBOX - the rest is put into Folders. It takes up to 20 secs to open my Mail for Exchange account - this is really annoying. Especially since the iPhone and my old N97 with Roadsync does it in less than 2-3 secs. This actually keeps me from using it too much when I am at work :( Furthemore it does not allow me to accept/reject Meetings in Mail for Exchange - it just comes in as a regular e-mail. Pls fix these issues so I can get to use it at work too :) |

yes i have the same problem with delete, delete is only enabled when you go through inbox, not when you open it from the taskmanager directly Is there a bug report for this? Else i will make 1 By the way, many times when i click on an email in the taskmanager it will not open at all.. It just goes to the email app. Dont know why, maybe because there are more then 1 emails new? So it doesnt know which one to open? |
Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
I have been testing a few more variables on this issue. The original problem with load times for inboxes being slow remains but it appears that the display of INBOX in capitals which makes the inbox folder impossible to access disappears when the N900 is not running on wifi.
I'll keep checking. |
Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
we should at least have an incoming list of emails besides all the different inboxes..
So like what conversations does for all the IM and SMS stuff. That inbox can then always be opened when new mail is received. |

Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
So, is there a bug report for Nokia Messaging issues? I'm experiencing all of the issues described above and have to say that it's really annoying to have to wait 30 seconds for the inbox to load or to perform 2-3 steps just to get to the needed inbox. These issues should be on the priority list of Maemo developers.

Re: Nokia Messaging SLOOOOWWWW and not functional?
I have the same issue. Inbox hangs at "Updating" from 30 seconds to 2 minutes intermittently before the Inbox appears when trying to view messages. I have from 5 to 6 messages in my 2 different Gmail Inboxes.
I tried removing my Gmail accounts from Nokia Messaging and just had Nokia Messaging use a new Ovi Mail account I created and a Yahoo Mail Account with about 10 messages. Same issue. I deleted Nokia Messaging from the phone and just setup my Gmail Accounts via IMAP with out the Nokia Messaging account on the phone and it seemed a bit faster, but there was still about 30 seconds hanging at "Updating" The Issue is present either by using Nokia Messaging or IMAP. The issue is present either on WiFi OR using 3.5G via T-Mobile USA. I'm quite surprised that I don't see many posts about email client issues. I did find a thread specifically regarding users using IMAP and having tens of thousands of emails in their Inbox causes the email client to crash. But like I stated above I do not have tens of thousands of emails in my Inbox and therefore my email application doesn't crash it's just extremely slow and almost unusable on the go at times. The following thread has a link to a bug report specifically addresses "IMAP accounts with a large number of messages in one or more folders (e.g. INBOX)" maemo.org > Talk > OS / Platform > Maemo 5 / Fremantle > Any solution about the issue on Gmail an large database of Email? http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=35191 The bug report is tagged as fixed due to a fix already in place for the next firmware upgrade. I tried doing several searches on https://bugs.maemo.org/query.cgi I am unable to find any bug report specifically addressing slow email client performance. I will need to do more testing and if it's not resolved I will find out how to properly post a bug report to make sure issue is addressed. |
