phone going from 3.5g to 2g in same spot

i am using my n900 in the same spot at my house. For some time it was showing 3.5g and then it dropped to 2g and i kept on getting the error "ceullar data not avaliable" then 10 mins later it goes back to 3.5. Why is it doing this, is this normal?

Not really sure why thats normal. If i am not moving and have the phone in the same spot how can it keep going from 2g to 3.5g?

same here (T-Mobile - Seattle). Probably the 3G network at home is not stable

because of the same magic that keeps your phone connected to network.

if you are in the edge with 3g (barely works) that kind of behaviour is normal.

Shouldnt it be going back and to from 3g to 3.5 instead of2 to 3.5 in the same spot? if i can get 3.5 then doesnt that mean im in a good area?

Haha, operator voodoo. Down here in Brighton sometimes I lose my 3G connection and go down to 2G. I think it has something to do with the amount of connections a mast can handle - if too many iPhone users are mashing their hands at their phones at the same time, there's no space for little old me and I get pushed onto a 2G mast.

I think iPhone users get priority on the o2 network here as well - can't be sure though.
