N900 Screen Calibration

Ok so the setting I am talking about is "Screen Calibration" under settings. For some reason I decided to play with it when I never really had to. Now I can't seem to get it back to the factory way as close as possible. I even tried doing "Restore Original Settings" but it doesn't reset the screen calibration to the way it came from the factory. Since it's not easily recognizing my finger touches it's really starting to frustrate me!

I play with my wife's N900 and hers is perfect and I warned her to not play with the screen calibration. Anyone know how I can get it back to factory setting? Not the entire phone, just the screen calibration.

Thanks!

nope but thats exactly why I didn't do it. Guess you have to wait for an answer but thanks for the warning to the rest of us.

I still do not understand what your problem is. You cant get the calibration screen back on?

Did you try reflashing the phone, I think that should get rid af ANY setting you might have messed with. I will add that I did recalibrate the screen and it works better that before IMO. Is it that now your presses are not accurate?

After he calibrated the screen, it's not as precise as it was with factory settings in other words, maybe when he presses one button, it instead thinks you pressed the button just below.

mthmob has it exactly right! It's not as accurate anymore and I keep trying to re-calibrate it to get it as close as possible to the way it was when it came from factory. I think I tried with the stylus but didn't like the results. I'll try again.

Thanks for all the input everyone!:)

Re: N900 Screen Calibration

Have you used the stylus for calibration? I did the same thing and recalibrated the screen with my fingers and I total screwed it up. Then I did it again but this time with the stylus and took really care to hit the right spots and it's now as good as out of the box.

Yes I will try with the stylus again although I'm getting used to my current settings. Thanks again everyone!

I think I'd like to do the same thing. Tried the sketch program w/o calibration & lines were centered with the stylus near the sides & after calibration lines appearing to be rendering off center of the stylus tip near the sides & centered in the middle.

Re: N900 Screen Calibration

I noticed that I need to calibrate by pressing slightly inwards on each dot horizontally to get optimal calibration. The vertical calibration worked fine when centered on each circle.

Re: N900 Screen Calibration

Oops, I also did the mistake of trying to calibrate screen. Now it's off on the left side and on bottom. Recalibrating by tapping to the right of the left targets works somewhat, but it takes alot of trial and error.. :(

Anyone figure out how to get the defaults back yet?

Re: N900 Screen Calibration

I'd just like to say that I too noticed that the calibration does not quite work as it is supposed to.

Vertically the calibration dots seem to be in the wrong position; as noted here, tapping nearer the centerline (in my case at the inner ring) is necessary to get the most accurate calibration.

Re: N900 Screen Calibration

I found the calibration tool on gitorious, seems there was/is an internal nokia bug regarding the corners miscalibration. I managed to build a new tscalibrate copy from the git repository, and tested it on my device. Calibration is now much better.

I'd assume this improved calibration would appear in a firmware upgrade at some point...

Re: N900 Screen Calibration

Is this a known bug? because I am having hard time to calibrate the screen aswell. Left side is abit inward and the right side is abit on the black to the right..

Open an xterm and run: sudo tscalibrate reset

Re: N900 Screen Calibration

Thanks blackwolf! The tscalibrate reset seems to put it back to defaults. However, it does not repair the problem with the calibration application itself (which is also previously described in this thread):
When I want to calibrate, the calibration application closes before I can finish the calibration! Immediately when I touch the first point in the upper left corner, it goes off and throws me back to the desktop. .... Hence I can not do any calibration.
It used to work fine. All I have (consciously) done since last time I calibrated was installing some 4GB of maps from the nokia US site via ovi map loader ... I guess that can't be a problem ....

Any idea if this is a know/reported bug or if there is some other process that might influence it?
