i am facing a prob.i installed winSCP in my laptop. once it was connected to my lap.but the next day when i am tryin to conect it says Network ERROR..Connetion REFUSED...i hav reinstall the application again here in lap n n900 both but gettin same prob. i hav written the IP add crrect.but i think tht i hav forgot the password...now when i reinstall the ssh in N900 it wont ask for password...so now is there any way i can access to root memory via Laptop...

can anyone help me pls.how to access the root....

Hey there Mr. Double poster!
1. Install rootsh from application manager. (on phone)
2. Open terminal (on phone)
3. Type : sudo gainroot (on phone)
4. Type : passwd root > and then your new password
5. Now you have your password.
6. Connect your phone via wifi, make sure you know the if wth :
terminal > sudo gainroot > ifconfig
7. Try your winscp again.

did as instructed...changed the password also...nope doesnt work....now i dun knw wats wrong... i wrote the io adress correct but still says NETWORK ERROR..CONNECTION REFUSED.

eitama...wat should i do now....:(

i did all as u instructed...but still the same...network error n connection refused...wat should i do now. i hav checkd my ip add n passwrd also..but no success!! is there any other option to edit in root so tht i can also get nice sms designs...helpme buddy thanks

Hi,

1st, I need to be sure you were succesful in following the instructions.
Please do the following :
On your N900 :
1. Open terminal
2. Type : sudogainroot
3. Type : whoami
4. Paste the output here in the forum

Now, lets so you are infact root.
1. Did you install openSSH server? if not
2. Type (as root) : apt-get update
3. apt-get install openssh
4. Throughout the install it will ask for a root password, set what you want.
5. post the ip of you phone shown by ifconfig
6. post the ip of you computer from ipconfig (if windows) ifconfig(if linux)

Lets continue after you get the above details.

i open terminal...type sudogainroot...
whoami...showing here is ROOT

when i apt-get install openssh..it says errors were encountered while processing...i hav already installed openssh.... may be its coz of this...

my ifconfig intert add is 127.0.0.1
my homeip is 192.168.1.2

Ok, you have some networking issues.
Lets try to solve them :
1. If you homeip is 192.168.1.2, your phone IP must be 192.168.1.X
where X is betwwen 1 - 254, and not 2...
2. You must be connected to wifi when doing ifconfig to get the information, use this command : ifconfig wlan0 and get the output from it.
3. Run this command : dpkg -l | grep openssh
check that you see openssh, openssh-client, openssh-server, openssh-common all installed and the latest version should be :
1:5.1p1-6.maemo5
4. From terminal - run "ping www.google.com" paste the output.
