Inspired by this and the default Pidgin look, I hacked up all three files to make an extremely compact theme, with smaller text, and less spacing. I also remove the date from the per-message timestamps, putting Pidgin-style "Conversation on [day]" headers above each day. Further, tapping a timestamp will expand it to show the day as well. I like it, and I put it out here in case other people are interested.

edit: Whoops, forgot some other features and a screenshot. My setup doesn't show the usernames. Instead, it colors the timestamp, so blue is for you, red for the other person (this could be easily changed by editing the html). It also puts space in between long pauses; 5 pixels for a ten minute pause, getting longer as the pause does. You can see this near the top of the screenshot:

Exactly what i would like !!!

I'd like to see full theme changes to the text message app, make the messages look like command prompt messages lol.

Or glass looking speech bubbles.

Re: Customize N900 Conversations

Hi,
I could need some help with the conversations font. I searched all over, but the only thing I found was changing the menu fonts using the perl one liner wich edits the gtkc files.. But I want the messaging font changed too, without replacing the original nokia ones on the phone. I made a custom font folder for my fonts wich is working fine. (/home/user/.fonts/)
Is there anybody who already figured out how to change the conversations font?
Thx in advance...

Do you mean the conversation list view, or single conversation font?
Conversation view gets it's fonts from /etc/hildon/theme/css/colors.css. e.g. SystemFont. That file comes from current theme.

Re: Customize N900 Conversations

Hi all, those who have been attempting to customize chat conversations, there is official support for chat and smiley themes in PR1.2 release. You can consider porting your existing hacks into proper theme packages. See this package for example.

http://maemo.org/packages/view/shaded-chat-theme/

Once the theme packages are installed, you can select them from Conversations settings dialog. Good luck :)

Re: Customize N900 Conversations

I've managed to change the look and is quite satisfied with the result.
The only thing I want to add is to make it look like this:
"You:
This is my message."

I know it's just a simple task but I just can't find any way to change it.
Could anyone be kind to explain/show the code how to make that possible?

Thanks.

1. Install rootsh.
2. Open terminal type sudo gainroot
3. Backup your files using :
Code:

cp /usr/share/rtcom-messaging-ui/html/fileName /usr/share/rtcom-messaging-ui/html/fileName.backup
4. now copy the modded ones using :
Code:

cp /home/user/MyDocs/tmp/Backup/fileName /usr/share/rtcom-messaging-ui/html/fileName
5. Incase something goes wrong, you can always restore the original file with :
Code:

cp /usr/share/rtcom-messaging-ui/html/fileName.backup /usr/share/rtcom-messaging-ui/html/fileName
Note : change the filename in the command to the files you want to replace, for example : MessagingWidgetsSMSConversation.css

After updating to PR1.2 I have a little problem. I put again my modded files to the right place and now when I open conversation window, I see a little transition effect (more true to say - jumping) of bubbles from left to right... It's opens not smoothly like before (PR1.1) This happens with all contacts, why I don't know.. Here you can see a little video of this (sorry about quality) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YJTD2jjH7U
Any ideas ?

Thanks

I don't know how I can fix this :(. Someone can help me with this problem ?

Meanwhile, I did another one that works well, but it's only right-to-left...
http://i48.tinypic.com/23kolg0.png

But here, I can not arrange the date and time of the "other" to the left side... Need help too...

This mode I like (from PR1.1), but it's jumping...
Hebrew SMS (right and left bubbles)

This new mode that works well, but it's need fixing of the date and time of the "other" to the left side...
Hebrew SMS (only right)

Managed to fix my problem by self. As I said: simple. Just added a br-tag.

Does anyone know if it's possible to mod the strings, to look like:
"Me wrote:"

Or even change "me" to something else (like my name)?

Odd, I placed all the files into /usr/share/rtcom-messaging-ui/html/ and nothing changed.

Find ME in the .js file and then change to whatever you want :) and save the file and transfer to the /usr/share/rtcom-messaging-ui/html/

Re: Customize N900 Conversations

i was able to get this to install fine, but it erased my avatar. so i went into the contacts and selected my avatar picture again, then rebooted.

for some reason, the threads will not show my avatar. just a black square.

also, is there a way to make the person who sent you the sms, to have thier entire first and last name instead of the first part?

ie- contact is listed as: First:DMP John Last:Doe

the only part that is listed is DMP, and i would like it to list: DMP John Doe

hahah. this is funny...kinda...im looking in the document to do so, and in searching "Me" in a document that is about "messaging" is like every other word has an "me" in it.

so 39 pages of searchin...still.

Re: Customize N900 Conversations

http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=557

start using search this thread, it has been repeated here couple of times. since i wrote it, let me know if you need any help regarding it.

--------

in the .js file you will be editing, it should state

Code:

name_tag.textContent = "Me | ";
just change Me part to your own name. hope it helps

---------

to add your own avatar picture, put 'avatar.png' 64px x 64px in the same folder as files. Again a simple search would have given you an answer, its repeated way too many times here.

Hi
Here this mode with names in the bubbles: http://www.mediafire.com/?2nzm3qtnjqw

But I don't know why you need the names in the bubbles, you can see the name of the contact in the status bar line...
And probably, you will see the bad jumping effect too, like I posted here...

ceroberts75 2010-06-18 16:08

Re: Customize N900 Conversations

duh....you are right....dont need the name in the bubble.

do you have the js and other files without it? and does it work fine with the problem
