Where is the camera sound file location?
Has anyone been able to find where the camera sound file is located. I would like to exchange it with one of the nice email notifier clicks, as the camera sound it just not pleasant... although I would like some sound to validate when a picture is taken. Perhaps I will make my own sound file... will share. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks, Thor |

Re: Where is the camera sound file location?
Interesting, I remember reading about a law in the US that requires cell phone cameras to make an audible noise. I wonder what would prevent someone from deleting this file or replacing it with a "silent" wav file and circumventing this restriction?

Though I do think that law exists in Japan. |

As usual a law passed as knee jerk reaction to an issue. |

There was a bill that was introduced at the beginning of the year in the U.S. House. But to my knowledge it didn't any traction. I don't think it even got any cosponsors.

Re: Where is the camera sound file location?
Just as a point of reference, with my N95 and the U.S. firmware, I could not silence the shutter sound. With the Euro firmware (after changing the product code and reflashing) I *could* silence the shutter noise.

Re: Where is the camera sound file location?
OK, I created a wave file PCM 24 bit 16k mono (but I did it on my PC with an open mic).... turned out to be noisy but I replaced the files /usr/share/sounds/camera_snd_title_x.wav (x being a 1,2 & 3) with my file - named the same - and those were the files that played.... alas, at full volume. I am going to make some nice quiet sound files that are clean and crisp, perhaps in different volumes, and post them for use... but don't know when I will get to it, though. Sorry for the giant run-on sentence here... Oh, and you must be root to do this. :)

Re: Where is the camera sound file location?
excellent information guys. I dont mind having my camera make noise when i take pics I just want it to be a little less loud. Edited the sound files using audacity, saved the original files (never know but i might need them), and then replaced originals with my modified version. Camera works like a charm and the sound is much less annoying now :)

But anyway, now anyone want to do custom camera sounds in addition to custom ringtones? |
Re: Where is the camera sound file location?
FWIW I just renamed the _1 sound file, and it's nice and quiet now.
