[Maemo 5] Native Facebook application or widget?

Does anyone know of an app where I would be able to update my Facebook status through ex a Widget on the homescreen ?

I would rather have this option, than go through the FB site.

Facebook app?

Any plans to make a facebook app? I understand the website can be used, but having something that is optified for the N900 screens etc would be much quicker etc, coupled with the feeds widget on the homescreen,

Similar to S60

You can post anything through the n900 onto your facebook. It's intergrated.

Please explain. How do I update my status through the N900? I can upload photos via PixelPipe.

Re: Facebook app?

Try using the "Touch" interface too

There is only a feed you can see, when you tap it it opens the website.

How is it integrated exactly? I know pix etc can be uploaded, it would be great to have an app that allow it to be fully functional.

There's also www.lite.facebook.com

So I assume there is no facebook app planned in the future, a lot people will want that and I can see the use..

Not unless Facebook has any plans to bring one to the N900.

Or a couragous developer could write one using their API.

Laughing Man 2009-12-14 03:08

Re: Facebook app?

Though does their API give full access to what most Facebook apps do? Like the one on the iPhone created by Facebook themselves?

Re: Facebook app?

Who created the S60 app? Thats pretty darn good too

Yes, the developer would have to create a new Application on Facebook which the developer would use to get/send data to Facebook.

I believe you have save some authorization token returned when someone authorizes the app to give it access to their facebook account.

I might try hacking a simple python gui which talks to Facebook (I've done Facebook Application Dev before...)

That would be cool Hypnotik...people will def jump on that.

This is like a must-have app for all platforms

Re: Facebook app?

is there a need for an app if n900's browser itself can render facebook like pc?

zfarooq 2009-12-14 03:31

Re: Facebook app?

The phone can render it, if you had a large screen it would be great. But you have to zoom in, tap, wait, tap... i.e. its not optimized for the screen.

Having an app, makes it extremely simple, click on the widget with the feeds, open apps update feed, add, update status etc...its much quicker.

Yeah and the original poster beat you both to it. He already addressed that thought in his first post!

That touch interface is nice but unfortunately broken.

If I click Older Posts it just repeats the same posts again, then I click Older Posts, and it does the same again. :(

Facebook app for N900 - staus updater

Hi All,
I cant seem to find an app for the N900 where you can update your status in the app .... the only way to update your status is by going onto the webpage.
anyone know of an app that can update status directly? would also be good if the app added a comment on like iphone users app does saying 'updated via facebook for N900'

cool

NikolaiM 2010-01-16 05:03

Facebook

Any chance of a Facebook application being made for the N900?

Yes, the browser is great, and you can see the full version of Facebook.

But, I'm sure most Facebook users can agree, it is not a very practical replacement for viewing Facebook... It's not exactly touch friendly, stylus or not.

Chat is a very difficult experience using the browser!

Any chance of either a Facebook chat plugin for contacts, or a Facebook application (eg like iPhone...I know that's an official app...)

Re: Facebook

try to search for the threads here... i remember i saw a facebook plug-in for pidgin..

Re: Facebook

Try lite.facebook.com for everything but chat and photo uploading. It works really well for me - everything is bigger, and it runs much faster.

For photo uploading, there's an app in the ovi store I believe.

NikolaiM 2010-01-16 05:21

Re: Facebook

I know there is a Facebook for Pidgin... but I was meaning more of an iPhone-type app, where you have custom views etc for the screen-size etc!

Really good idea about facebook lite!!

EDIT: You can upload photos by setting it up in "sharing" in n900 settings

would love a fully intergrated facebook app allowing for status updates etc from a app rather than scrolling around the web site

That one for phones without touch feature
http://touch.facebook.com is better (the problem is N900 has a high rez. so the website fonts looks so small!!)

Would you mind posting a screenshot from this website on your N900 in Portrait?

No but you can place a shortcut to any bookmark in your browser on your desktop right next to it so that should suffice

Re: Facebook app for N900 - staus updater

I've noticed on the facebook photo and status app when i use the virtual keyboard to write text it often doesn't transfer the text i have written to the appropriate box unless i use the actual pullout keyboard. certainly trying to put a name in the search box at the top via virtual keyboard never works unkess using the pull out keyboard. does anyone else notice this. i've tried uinstalling and reinstalling the apps but it makes no difference. any advide greatly appreciated.

I want this too. A simple app that posts status updates to Facebook and Twitter, and have the option to select which one to post too, or both.

I'm playing out with the terminal at the moment too see if I can update twitter via the terminal, its possible in windows, linux, and mac, so it should be easily done on the N900 too.
