RE: Zooming
Jay, how do I zoom in to the maps once I've downloaded them? I can't find anything that points me in the right direction.
Thanks. |
I just tried it, and I was able to delete maps. I went to "Maps > Manage Maps...", selected "Delete Maps", checked the Zoom tab and the Area tab to make sure they corresponded to what I saw on the screen, and tapped OK, and after a pause saw the pretty maps I'd been looking at replaced with scaled-up maps from the next zoom level out. Scrolling around shows that only the maps that overlapped the screen (i.e., the maps covering the rectangle specified in the "Area" tab) were deleted -- outside that rectangle I still have maps at the current zoom level.
However, I got a little pop-up dialogue showing that the Nokia was connecting to my local network at the start of that process. That shouldn't be necessary in order to delete maps, but I'm guessing map deletion reuses a loop coded for map download, and connecting to the net is the first thing it does. It might be that if you can't automatically connect to the net, the deletion is being aborted. So try connecting to the net first before you delete maps. Quote:
Maemo Mapper will scale up a higher zoom level to display a lower one -- for instance, if you're viewing zoom level 7, and you don't have maps at level 7 but you do at level 8, it will double the size of the level 8 maps and use them for level 7. But it won't do the reverse: if you're viewing zoom level 7, and you don't have maps at any higher zoom level, but you do have maps at level 6, Maemo Mapper won't shrink the level 6 map images to display level 7; you'll just see a black screen for areas you don't have map data for. |
Zoom with the -/+ rocker on top of the 770 (the same way you zoom in the web browser).

Rocker on top zooms: cool
Thanks.
Here's what I did so far, with your help, with the hope it'll help someone else. 1) http://mt.google.com/mt?n=404&v=w2.99&x=%d&y=%d&zoom=%d needs to go into Maps -> Manage Repositories -> URI Format. 2) Into Maps -> Manage Repositories -> Cache Dir, in my case it's /media/mmc1/Maps 3) Now a map of the world appears. 4) Use the rocker arm (+/-) on the top of the 770 to zoom in. Zero in on the area you want, in my case New Mexico. Change Maps -> Manage Maps -> Zoom from 15 to 13. Turn on Autodownload. Center on Albuquerque. Let maps download. As above, change zoom level from 13 to 11. Keep centering and changing zoom level, using the stylus or the arrows to the left of the display, until you have the area you want detail of. Is that correct so far? p.s. Still can't delete from the program. |
@ burque: glad to see your progresses with MaemoMapper :)
I am not able to help you with deletions beacuse I just redownload my maps from time to time. Sometime I also clear all my maps repo simpoly by deleting the maemomapper folder, in order to keep datas on the MMC as little as possible... BTW, hth just meant Hope This Helps... my name is Michele :D |
Re: Please, please help with Maemo Mapper
