I bet had you taken it to a Nokia Care Center they'd just swap the mainboard/get a whole new one. |

Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues
I am having problems with my port, but not that its looses, it actually seems squashed in further. And a bit rotated. I can only charge if I hold the cable a very specific way. Anyone else having this problem?
I have been careful with the port, since I saw this thread before I got an n900... |
Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues
It's gonna break soon, Probably in the next couple of days. This happened with both of my N900s. Backup your data now. I hope you're still under warranty.

Broken usb, had to get desktop battery charger to get data off, gutted!
Still under warranty till Nov, got to wait to get replacement device before sending it off. Shame. |

Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues
I live in germany and bought my N900 from amazon.de. I sent it to their repair service and got a new N900 back, with the original box which also means with a new battery, new cables etc. They told me that I could choose between a new device or the wait for a repair(I think this would never have happened). They also told me that I would get my money back if they would not have it in stock anymore.
So, I think, there you have a good chance to get a new one instead of a N8 or E7. Good work, amazon. |
Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues
Alas! My beloved N900 has been put out of commission Too! My short term solution is to buy an external battery charger.. however I have been reading bits about some brands not charging the battery? Can anyone verify this, I don't want to buy one online i.e. ebay only to discover it doesn't charge my battery and I'll still be stuck with my purely function nokia old model cell.
I didn't even know it had happened only to take a closer look at the usb port and noticed something wasn't there??? I freaked out and tried to patiently work all the angles to get my beloved n900 to charge but to no avail. Hopefully as one of the users said he got his fixed at greenhill with a simple soldering solution that this will work also in my case.. if not then I'll have to hunt down a nokia repair shop and see what happens... not sure if mine if still under warrenty as I bought it from a seller on ebay who I believe bought it in the States. Peace! And be gentle when you pull out the usb wire folks. |
Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues
After 18 months careful use, only charging up once daily and occasionally connecting to a computer I have finally broken the usb port by tripping over the lead. When I unplugged the charger, the female part of the usb port came away with it. Any idea how much it will cost to repair in the UK?
