A pat on the back and a "everything will be alright" :)

Do I need to worry that I have parts of the "Mainboard" on the port? Could Nokia argue that I talked an Elephant into forcing the USB Cable into my n900's port and then trample all over the device? :D

Haus3r, What the hell is going on with two first pictures? Did you get it like that out of box (screen cover seems to be attached?)?

Nah I put the cover back on since I cannot use the phone atm :( Don't want it to get dusty. But yeah, I had used it for just over 2 weeks before the port came off, so yes, it was almost like it came out of the box in this state

I am sorry to tell you he is full of it.

I just got out of the Nokia care center. They confirmed that they had recived an update on the issue today.

It states that if the pads have been removed from the board they should not repair it under warranty.

They also told me thay are seeing this about once a weejk. That is one center for a single low volume phone for this issue alone.

We talked for a while he was very much on our side that this is a flaw in the design. Unfortunately he has no say.

He was very interested in the number of people here with wiggly working USB connectors.

He says these are likly to break. The best thing to do is take them directly to a care center and request they are sent to Nokia for repair.

This is important for 2 reasons
okia needs
1. if it is working then it should be fixed under warranty.

2. Nokia needs to see these as they will provide more evidence to the cause.

As you can see from there it looks like that there is different sizes of "lock slides" for micro-usb. What kind of standards apply to them? I would not be surprised that if for example micro-usb connectors lock-hook (i don't know what they are called) mechanism locks itself and you try to pull it out it really rips the whole port with it.

That is interesting I noticed today, as i have gone back to my old N85 while I try to sort this. That the connector on the N85 is much much looser

Would you mind looking at my pictures on the previous page and telling me whether it qualifies as "pads have been removed"?

What the evidence shows is that the mounts are not even close to secure. They are pulling free of the PCB way too easily.

I wonder what it would take to build a few simple circuit boards with connectors soldered on and demon straight the different damage for different types of force / direction on video.

You would need to have the phone opened and look at the circuit board. Take it to the nearest care center.

So does that mean everyone who has a little wiggle in their phones should send their's right NOW to NOKIA to fix them? We can jump ahead and ask the bad design to fixed, everyone needs a fix :)

I can tell you they have.

But I can also assert that denying this under warranty is wrong. Maybe CARE ops have not all received the info. I will stay on this.
