Things I noticed:
* The usb port was really hard to plug. Far more hard than on n810. Also more hard than the preproduction n900 I got.
* No special treatment, I don't even use the usb port too much (once every 2-3 days to charge the device).
* The "break" incident was: once green light was telling the device was charged, I removed the usb plug, and the female side came with the plug.
* Last days before "break" incident, it happened at least two times that I put the device in charger and it didn't charge. I guess it was already partially broken.

Tomorrow I'm going to the center Nokia Care redirected me. Let's see what they say.

they told me 4 weeks.
i told them theyre crazy,

My USB broke a little over 2 weeks ago. Nokia care centre here in Madrid (an outpost of geeksquad) sent it off to nokia. I have heard nothing yet, but they said at least three weeks.

It's unlikley that the poll has been touched by everyone with an N900, USB failure or not. But the overall numbers are high enough to be representative-- and ~11% failure rate this early in the lifecycle is troubling (EDIT: granted that 11% is likely skewed).

In addition, we don't yet know how many who voted "no problem" might have or will have one.

hmmm...so i hope this will be heard, i have 5 days more to observe my n900 with my regular use, and i will vote for this poll (i think i read that voting requires at least a month of ownership unless the problem already occurred)

But, aren't N900 owners who actually had the USB port break on them more likely to look for a thread like this and thus are more likely to vote? That would skew the results in the direction of "my USB port is broken". The real percentage is probably lower.

And therein lies the problem with statistics.

Lies, damned lies and...
