Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues
The thing that worries me is the talk that Nokia might choose not to repair/replace the device if there is sign of damage on the device.
I filed off my USB plugs before I ever inserted them, and I try to look after my N900, but it does have a few scuff marks. I have never yanked the USB lead out, or dropped it while the USB lead is plugged in, so these scuff marks are nothing to do with USB, but I worry that if I have a USB port problem in the future, Nokia might think the marks are something to do with that. |

Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues
Hi guys, I have just received my n900 and the action of inserting/removing the charger from the port seems really stiff, just wondering if the general consensus is to file off the metal teeth of the charger?
Thanks, Graham |

Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues
This is scary stuff..
Bought an N900 a week ago. HK import style. Mini USB connector hooks removed... ...along with the facial contorsions to go with the exact amount of pressure required to unplug without pullin the 900's gizzards out. Happy days. |
Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues
Definetly file of the teeth, feels so much smoother when taking the charger out of the phone. Also its pretty weird that the car chargers teeth aren't as sharp as the mains adapter, feels almost as good as the grinded down version.

Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues
Ok i first experience this problem 3 days ago.... now this is the problem...
phone not being charged... I am wondering is it hardware or software. Hope someone would be able to advice and help. ----------------------------------------------- n900 is off 1) When I plug it into my wall charger the phone vibrates and shows nokia logo dimly i.e. no background light. 2) Then the yellow light blinks once nokia logo disappear. 3) Yellow light continue to blink 2 - 3 more times then a quick green light blink. 4) After that no more light from the led. 5) then a sound like "thoon". after nothing. ----------------------------------------------------- i got my battery charged up and fire it up... no problem... my n900 started. Plug it into the wall charger nothing happens. If I unplug my phone comes out from standby. -------------------------------------------------------- now i plug it into the PC usb. on n900 the normal choose your connection option appear. on PC it states not recognise usb device later on n900 it states power insufficient, not charging. --------------------------------------- yup so is it my hardware or software???? |

Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues
Now it has happened for me to, usb connector broken.
Returend it to Nokia warranty shop, how refuses to fix it, say that I have dropped the phone or used violent. Asked them if they can fix it if I pay them, NO we can't fix anything while there is warranty, wich ****ing warranty???? Tried to buy a spare usb connector so I could fix it self. No, we don't sell spare parts and I can't find any ****ing spare site on the net with usb connector (well sites where I have to buy 100 I have found but I don't need that many) So now I stay here with a Phone that i can't do a **** with. If anyone nows a company in Finland that fixes usb connector i would be happy to know. |

You shouldn't have to pay...

- Just keep your head, behave nicely but be strict - Try another Nokia shop This kind of service Just amazes me because shop employees would need security guard to get me out of store after they have told me that it´s not covered by warranty :D I would not simply take no for answer. |
Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues
Won't help, have tried 4 diffrent placec today. Komofon here in my city just send it to ANGLO-SERVICE in Helsinki.
When I go to Komfon they just say that it's warranty isue, so it will not be fixed when I pay for it. Went to my insurance company also, 225€ after all costs, yeey. Tried to call Nokia Service also using nr. 03038286 they just said I have to use Komofon to, one solution would be to travel to Seinäjoki and try there but not so interested to travel 70km on way and get the same answer. And I wouldn't care if have to pay to get it fixed, or just could find a micro usb connector but it's hopeless, tried to email many big electronic companies if they have any way to get a Micro USB connector but nothing. Because now its just a useless ****ing brick. So here is what I spend my day of for, :( |

- You went to Komofon - They took your phone and send it to Helsinki - Now they say that this type of defect is not covered by Nokia warranty? .edit There is two shops in Vaasa that are official Nokia Care point partners. Komofon and Meriläinen Oy. It´s just absurd that they do not even take it and send it to anglo-service. |
Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues
Yes,
Meriläinen also use Komofon so that wont help (went to them to) And then because the phone is still under warranty they will not fix it even if I pay. (I wonder witch ****ing warranty, when they say it's not covered under warranty when they say that I have used violence) Edit: Just filled in the information at kuluttajavirasto (Consumer Agency) lets see if I get any help there. |

My phone is only charging from PC. Unfortunately I bought it in the US and live in the UK so fixing it on warranty not very straightforward. Quite disappointed in the new Nokia. Used to always be able to count on their hardware being very reliable.

darn.... pr1.2 is already out but i cant flash it... grrrrr.....

Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues
After installing PR.1.2 I now cannot charge or use the usb cable to charge. I can get it to charge if i place the cable in and hold it but one i have let go it stops charging. I think this is a hardware issue due to the port looking slightly dislodged but it is not hanging out.
I am now in the process of planning to get it repaired but I need to know some details about the way of going around to claim this on the warranty. I live in the UK. 1: I have misplaced my Carphone warehouse receipt (where i signed up for the contract) and my n900 box, will this hinder me in anyway/shape or form in getting my phone successfully repaired or replaced. 2: If CPWH say it is a problem with Nokia, will I have any problems that were outlined in q1? 3: If Nokia say that the problem is not covered by warranty, what would be the best course of action to prove that this is indeed a manufacturing fault and thus, their problem? 4: Anything else I need to do before I can apply for a fix? Thank you in advance. |

In a nutshell, you need to be persistent. Nokia corporate has agreed to repair/replace devices suffering usb failures. Some service centers are resisting for whatever reasons, and your recourse is to push back hard and often. Point out that numerous people have had their devices replaced under warranty. |
