Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
just fitted the ZAGG full protection. Is quite rubbery and the stylus does indeed drag. Grip is good across the back and sides of the phone tho. Might stick with the screen protector for a week or so and see if the drag goes away a bit. If not will pull it off and use one of the ebay type screen protectors - harder film but less drag.

Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
Hi all, just registered. I've been reading through the thread looking for a screen protector to order with my N900. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is the JAVOscreen protector. I have one on my Treo 650 and I'm very pleased with it. It has a good texture (not quite as smooth as the screen itself, but definitely not rubbery at all) and it's totally washable and reusable. It sticks on by suction - if it gets dirty you can wash it with liquid soap and it just goes right back on (I've only had to wash it once or twice in all the years I've had it - more to do with dust building up on the edges of the recessed screen on the 650).
So naturally I wanted one of these for the N900, but so far they don't make one for the N900, but it should be possible to cut an N800 protector to fit the N900: http://www.amazon.com/Nokia-JAVOScre...1659275&sr=8-1 This screen cover is really great and I can't recommend it enough. Next, I was looking for a hard case. I found this one on Amazon (rather pricey for a hard case though: ) http://www.amazon.com/Amzer-Clear-Cr...1580121&sr=8-2 The problem I see here is that it doesn't have the cutouts for the camera, proximity sensor, etc. (either that or it's on upside-down in the pic). Are there any hard cases that have these cutouts? |

I got this to replace Phantomskinz that was a pain to apply because of the adhesive & need to wet & soap the thing. It does change the feel & gave it an orange peel texture like all these protectors made from a similar material. The DQC-160 is like a sheet of hard plastic whereas the Phantomskinz is like a sheet of vinyl. I much prefer the former because of it's ease of application & it maintains the original look & feel of the device. |
Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
I got a screen protector from DuraSec and have been very pleased by it. It is not cheap at 30.00
Nokia N900 - DuraSec HighTec screen protector (4250202956438) = US$30.70 |
Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
Today I got the Clarivue protector that I ordered. Just wanted to report and say that I am extremely pleased with it. Very nice.

Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
I installed my Phantom Skinz protector on the 24th and have been using the phone heavily since then. :)
The surface is smooth - almost identical feel as the naked screen. Mine is optically perfect. If I hadn't trapped a single, tiny cat hair under the protector, you wouldn't even know it was there. My only complaint is that the protector is a bit too small. There is a 1mm margin between the edge of the protector and the edge of the screen. Overall, I'd highly recommend their product. Less than US$10 for two protectors. Edit: Link: N900 Phantom Skinz |

heard some bad things about those "hard rubber/silicone" cases , se this post!!:

Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
I bought the ARMR200 and also the DQC-160. As soon as I get my n900 i'll give some feedback about it...

Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
I'm still using one of the 10-year-old protectors i bought for my Visor Deluxe, and it's not very good. It's a bit too short to completely cover the screen, and a bit too wide. And soft. I'd really like to figure out a better solution soon because i'll be back to the normal schedule and carrying my phone in the front pocket of my jeans as often as not.
One thing i've noticed is that the little hole for the mic(?) on the front left is collecting debris. I'm thinking a protector that covers the entire front of the device inside the bezel with no holes in it at all would be best for mine. Do any of them work like that? |
Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
Bump. I've ordered a cheap rubberized case off Ebay and a cheap Blackberry holster said to work with the N900 but still don't have a good screen protector. In looking through the ones on Ebay, they all seem to have a cut-out for the speaker (even if they don't for other important things), which i would rather not have. Has anyone found a screen protector that covers that cruft-collecting speaker hole?
|
Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
I also bought an Vikuiti ARMR200 and i'm satisfied with it. Thanks to it, it's easier to read in direct sunlight and the sensibility of the screen is the same as before.
|
Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
Given how a speaker works (by moving a membrane to create sound waves), covering the hole would cause a definite loss in sound quality (if not block it out altogether).
|
Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
Yeah, i know that's a possibility. I'd be willing to lose a little volume from that speaker because i plan to use a headset most of the time. Anyway, worth asking about in case someone has actually tried it and found it worked ok, right?
|
Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
I very much doubt anyone would make one like that though. You could just sellotape over the speaker hole, or get a larger screen protector and cut it down to the correct size.

Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
well i had the invisible shield but couldnt get on with it. didnt like the texture (is like orange peel) and felt quite rubbery so i took it off.
a word of warning with this tho, when i took mine off it was so well fixed it gave me a big fight. bowed the touch screen surface outwards as it was peeling off and as a result i now have a small bright spot near the top of my display and the touchscreen sometimes makes a faint clicking/crunching noise. it does still work perfectly so at least theres that i guess.. by the way i tried puncturing the back part of the protecter since i didnt want to use it and well, that material is stupidly strong!! |
Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
I just installed the InvisibleShield too. It is slightly rubbery, but doesn't diminish the use of the screen too much, imo. The comment about it being like an 'orange peel' is drastically overexagerated, although the texture appears similar when viewed from an angle. I bought the full body. The phone is now less likely to slip through my fingers onto the floor. I am overall happy with the purchase.
When you install it, remember to use enough water. That is how you get the air bubbles out. Mine is air bubble free. If you do decide to remove it, remember to peel it at 180 degrees, not 90. ;) That way you aren't yanking the screen outward. |

I guess I can give an extended suggestion for peeling off at 180 degrees: Use the Zagg card (or something similar) to hold the screen while the shield is being peeled away. This should help normalize the force while pulling the shield. |

Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
Ok. I narrow my choices down to Vikuiti and Clarivue.
BUT my question is : Because these screen protectors seems to be more stiff (plastic) than others. Are they easily scratch? like say if you put it in your pockets with change or keys does it leaves marks on the screen protectors? It bothers me when i see scratches on the screen so i'd rather go with Zagg if the Vikuiti and clarivue are easily scratch. |
Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
well heres my take. I got Clarivue and i wouldnt say its bad very good quaility. I havent test it for scrach with nails :)) and stuff like that but with finger and stylus works perfect. But theres another one that i order its Martins screen protector i believe it whould worth try its now avalable so i will see how it go.
And btw for those who will go for clarivue have to say that the one thats morror is literarly a mirror with a good reflection quality. Well nice thing for girls 2in1 morror and phone but not for me:). Actualy wanted to get black one but was sold out. Heres link for martins if anybody interested http://www.overlayplus.com/us/produc...od_type=screen |
Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
I started off with the IS film from ZAGG, but made a mess of it immediately. It's too sensitive to fingerprints on the sticky side while applying it, and if you don't get it just right the first time you really can't start over. The film will stretch slightly if you pull it off to reposition it, and where it stretches the optical qualities will suffer.
Next I applied the Vikuiti ARMR200. This was pretty easy to apply. It's a comparatively rigid substance, so if you hold it by the edges and flex it a little it won't flop all over the place and stick to everything in sight, like the Invisible Shield does. Also you don't need to mess around with spraying your finger tips and the protection film. I used this for a few weeks , and was very impressed with the "finger feel" and stylus sensitivity. It really does impart a papery texture to the touch screen, but some may not like this. In the end I removed it because the texture will slowly cause finger oils to build up where you use it the most (right in the middle) and no amount of wiping removes them. The screen always looks dirty, when turned off, although I admit when in use this really isn't an issue. The anti reflection properties are great. Now I'm using the Vikuiti DQC-160. This is super shiny and slippery, and wipes clean very easily. The touchscreen is slightly less sensitive with this on it than with the ARMR200, which excels in this regard. As others have noted, it is very hard to adhere the Vikuiti product around the very edges of the screen. I have several narrow areas around the edges which simply will not stick. I think the bezel around the screen holds oils from your face, and it is difficult to clean out this area, so if you have been using the N900 for any amount of time before you apply the Vikuiti the oils will leach out a little and interfere with good adhesion. So in the end I have spent about $30 mucking around with various screen protectors, but I definitely can recommend the Vikuiti DQC-160. |
Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
ahhhhhh you guys still haven't answered my question.
I was wondering if clarivue or vikuiti are easily scatch? in other words if you use it with nails and stylus does it leaves light scratches? |

Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
I like Martin Fields. It's hard, and thus relatively easy to apply and highly durable, yet doesn't impact the sensitivity (at least on my 5800, my N900 screen protector won't get here until tomorrow) of the touch screen.
Best of all, it has zero impact on the optical quality of the screen. Expensive, though. Supposedly there are less expensive knockoffs now that use the same material. Edited to add: I had never noticed much in the way of scratches from my keys/change and stuff on the one on my E71, but now that I examine it closely, it does have quite a few nearly invisible fine scratches that you can only see with the screen off and light hitting it at a certain angle. It did spend over a year in my pocket, though. |
Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
@wierdo: wow martin field's looks awesome I might give it a try !

Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
i run several stores that sell the n900 and accessories. basic generic orders for screen protectors, about $1 US (My price). so i applied this generic mirrored protector and actually applied great(thick material). no scratches, cleans w one swipe, screen visibility excellent but HORRIBLE under the sunlight. i dont have the manufacturer name but i guess im just posting because im amazed you guys have broke it down to a science. lol kudos

Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
I go through a lot of screen/entire body protectors on a lot of devices. I've used the following on the N900 and landed on a combo zagg invisible shield for the case and Clarivue for the screen. I tend to throw mine on tables, dashboard, in jacket pockets with keys so yes, the N900 plastic (and other devices) will scratch when you do this so I prefer case protection. The zagg is glossier than the matte finish, but doesn't look bad imo and protects it nicely if I need to return/sell it..
Lexerd: This one I haven't used before, but was one of the first available for N900. I always order two screen protectors: 1 for practice. Both were not aligned well: if you center on screen, cutouts were far off both horizontally and vertically. Both don't 'seal' on edges - partially raised on external and cutout edges. I don't recall seeing this on any other before. It does have a great look and feel. If it weren't for the raised edges, you could hardly tell it is there- cleaned, it is like a new phone out of the box. Application is very easy, BUT the adhesive attracts dust from the air like no other - the smallest, itsy piece of particle you can't even see is guaranteed to get on adhesive side. I ordered another twin-pack to see if alignment or edges would improve since I really liked. Same thing. Zagg Invisible Shield: I've used this on a lot of devices. Like people say, the screen protector is 'rubbery' feeling. IMO, it is not ideal and does irritate me at times, especially with a stylus. I now primarily use these for body protection, but am paranoid of scratching the screen. Body installation has always been easy and no problem on N900. Not ideally cut, but it's the case so close enough. I have always had less trouble w/body, incl. no probs w/air bubbles, than the screen. Screen is a royal pain in the arse. Requires a ton of patience, very steady hand, bright lights and, ideally, latex gloves unless you want fingerprints (I don't care what zagg says about just keeping moist). I have yet to install one on the N900 that I get aligned right (I've had 3 so far) - one edge or another gets pushed against the raised rim. Two of the three got stretched during application. I admit, my dexterity isn't awesome and I do get impatient after the 3rd or 4th line-up attempt. If I am only looking at one screen with the zagg, I'll think "that looks perfectly fine." When I look at one of my others using nothing, a Clarivue or another brand that is a stiffer ultra-clear type, then I can see why not everyone likes the Zagg. It is noticeable and has texture (hold it at an angle - I've never not had texture on N900 or other devices). Great protection though and should be - just a little thinner than the protective clear stuff they put on the front of my car to prevent rock pits, under door handles to prevent ring scratches, on front of side mirrors, on side mirrors themselves, etc. and so far it's been great for that too - if you've owned a black car or ten, you know what I'm talking about. Good enough for a $__ car, good enough for a $700 phone. So now I'm using a Clarivue anti-static clear for the screen/zagg for the case. Nothing to say about the Clarivue other than it just works, looks great, glides nicely - same as always. I haven't tried it, but I suspect if you want the best of Zagg-style protection and glide of a Clarivue, you can use both. May prevent a few kinetic scrolling mistakes :-) (a benefit of the Zagg). |
Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
I bought a clarivue screen protector for my n900 and was able to get on the n900. The problem is that the clarivue screen protector doesn't have cut for the promixity sensor and the front facing camera. Will this cause problems for me?

Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
I use a ScreenPatronus protector. It has all the cut outs except for the sensor for ambient brightness. A very tough protector it has the fault of not adhering well about 1 mm along the edges. This aside, I am quite happy with it. It is a tight fit and you will need to be very precise in placing it. The cutouts are generous but the protector is very close to being a full screen, bezel to bezel fit.

Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
folks, i'm looking for a replacement screen protector for my n900. i bought the n900 used so it came with a protector and now it's time to change it. i don't know what the previous owner put onto the n900 (didn't ask).
i like the what is on my n900 now. it's clear and it is not soft or rubbery. the most important thing for me is it covers everything except for the front speaker opening. does anyone know which screen protector would fit my requirements? |
Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
I had a Zagg Invisibleshield, but it got slightly detached from a corner and began accumulating dirt under the protector, so I had to remove it after about 4-5 months.
Now I have some super-cheapo (something like 6-8 for the price of a Zagg display-only protector) protectors, I think they are made by Celly. Celly vs Zagg: +The Celly has a hard and slippery surface, unlike the Zagg. This makes swiping movements much more pleasant. -The Celly is clearly thicker, and as such easier to install and feels really sturdy. Unfortunately a thick protector on a resistive touch screen does noticeably degrade touch screen responsivity. -The Celly is completely hopeless when it comes to resisting fingerprints in any way. Even right after wiping it, it looks greasy. -These stick to the screen REALLY hard. Some unfortunate soul claimed to have ripped the display off the device while attempting to remove the protector (some protector, hah), but I'd say that's more likely the result of someone just grabbing to protector and trying to pull it straight off the display, instead of gently and in the right direction. Long story short; I won't buy either of these again. I'll be looking for a thin (touch responsiveness), yet hard (ease of install and use) protector with minimal surface friction. |
Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
I got my hands on this pretty hyped screen protector. It's the easiest to install so far and has the best value as well. I've written a short review here with some pics at Nokia N900 screen protector. :D

Re: Best Screen protector for N900 ( again)
that's what i got but this used to be made by zagg, & i see no mention of that in your review?
