There is Transmissions in the Maemo Extra Test App repo.
CAUTION: Using this repo at your own risk as the beta apps can make your phone un-stable.

Re: N900 Torrent App?

all torrent clients are resource hungry if they're downloading large amounts. you could try throttling the bandwidth and see if it helps. but i find it easiest to save the .torrent file to memory and then add them when i'm not using the phone, or leave it charging overnight and download.

Re: N900 Torrent App?

I think the biggest problem with Transmission on the N900 from what I've read is the number of connections it tries to make overwhelms the N900. Try reducing that if you have Transmission issues.

Re: N900 Torrent App?

yes transmission. i use it everyday, music, films etc. it does hog the phone and its pretty much unuseable untill its finished downloading but for large files i just leave it working while im asleep. but for the odd song here and there its great. like the other day on the bus i wanted to listen to a song, realised i didnt have it so downloaded it in less than 30 seconds. the latest version that got released had a ton of settings added to it so u can mess with bandwidth etc and still have control of the phone. wicked app.

Hello,

I modified Ctorrent for N900.
I believe, my version has no multi-tasking problem because I am using special logging technique to translate random writes to sequential writes.

Check here: https://wiki.cc.gatech.edu/epl/index.php/FlashLite

Both sources and binaries are available.

I hope the same technique can be applied for Transmission also.

Did try this however regardless of the file perms I got

-sh: ctorrent: Permission denied

Ideas?

Ok Scratch that. Got round this issue. Now problems with the tracker. Out of date client.

I did, it works great, but the UI is a lot better in Transmission.

You need to be root first.

Code:

sudo gainroot
apt-get install wget

Re: N900 Torrent App?

You need to download and install rootsh package from Extras.

Once it is installed tyou can type the above command to become root.

Thanks,

Re: N900 Torrent App?

Bit off topic, but I dont download torrent from my n900 (doesnt make sense) If you run linux with Gnome at home, there is setting for the Transmission client to enable web interface.

It looked like this:
http://bit.ly/hqEgfc

Enable authentication, serve it up via NAT. Now you can access it via your N900. If you have a dynamic DNS setup , it's even better.

If you set this on Bookmark, as long as you find a torrent URL that you want to download, you can load Web Transmission via bookmark, add the URL and control the download from n900 browser.

I know this deviate away from the original topic, but I though its worth sharing my setup since its a wee bit related.
