Re: does anyone use the n900 as a phone

yep also struggling with the phone part, but then I always have problems with a new phone because i get so few phone calls so I don't get much practice. It is not helping that many people seem to give up after only 1 or two rings nowadays.

Thanks for the tip of turning auto-rotaion off! I'd get it out of my pocket, they have to scream in frustration as it would either; not respond to screen unlock or be busy flipping between portrait and landscape so i can't see who is calling or answer.

Hi all,

I have only one conflict about call log. How can you understand from which number your contact give a call to you.

If you wanna give a call back from the log you see all the info of contact not the number that gave you a call.

May be i did some thing wrong or lack of experience.

Would you explain how can i manage it?

BR

You can't at the moment. It's been filed as a bug, and this feature is likely to arrive with an update or two.

I use the n900 as a mobile phone, but frankly the phone function was always one of the least used features of my protable device. I took that into consideration in my purchase - had I wanted to spend hours on the phone with lots of phone functions, I might have chosen something else.

I have no choie to use this as a phone since i sold my n95 8gb for the n900. As a phone its hard to use im always fumbling with it. I've accidently called a few people by accident. I wish there was a simpler way of locking the phone one handed, the placement of the lockscreen kinda sucks imo. It would be cool if when a call comes in the phone unlocks and when the call ends the phone automatically locks. WIthout any physical buttons im always having to look at the phone. I miss just picking up and ending calls without having to look at the phone.

remember you can also lock your phone by double-tapping the power button.

Wow, thanks, I didn't know that, a neat little trick. :)

Hmm... The green and red button on the screen could be replaced by sliders :) Could be set in options. Now way to accidentally answer or reject a call then.

There's a thread which talks about this idea at http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=32060 and a Brainstorm to vote on at http://maemo.org/community/brainstor...ide_to_answer/.

Re: does anyone use the n900 as a phone

I think I can say that (short of not having custom rings and a few little features that a phone would have -- something for the future) it is the best phone I have ever owned. It is big enough to hold on my shoulder, the volume is good, the sound quality good, the headphones work well... No complaints. As a matter of fact, I was walking home, on a conference call (with the stock headphones) surfing the web... absolutely no issues. I use the auto screen lock feature, and that keeps me from bumping buttons, etc.

Sure their are fancier phones, but being that there is so much more hardware here, and it's open-source, I can't help but feel exceedingly pleased when using it. For the most part it has replaced me hauling around a laptop, phone, camera, gps and the associated crap which comes with all of those -- plus under normal operation (while using all those features) it runs an entire working day.

I am not a "fanboy" by any stretch of the imagination. However, actual use has shown that this meets and exceeds most all of the expectations I had (and I didn't have low expectations)... plus (after my extended experience with the N800) I know that the apps will be expanded and improved for a long time to come... the device will only meet more of my needs in the future, not less.

(off-topic alert, but on a roll) Take from this what you will, but after the last few weeks/months of listening to some people whine and ***** about how much they hate the device, how its not an iPhone, HTC whatever... go get those... spend your money on some other hardware and go whine and ***** on their forums.

These Maemo forums -- all of them -- should be for contributions to strengthen the user experience in the long term... to make the products better, to benefit the users who are trying to wring more out of their hardware (the phone element or the computer element), to share experiences which add to the collective body of knowledge on the subject... or to ask questions which will lend exploration into new features, development, etc.

Sheesh.
