N900 Delete Email Confirmation: Want to disable it?
Hi,
If having the option to remove "Are you sure you want to delete" confirmation for every email you delete is something you would like to see, here is the request for you to vote on: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6621 I noticed this today and was surprised on how few votes it has so far and that this wasn't somewhere on the roadmap. I figured it was an oversight that would be fixed later. Perhaps most of us just assumed this. Every device (even standard 'pc' email client) I can think of allows you to enable/disable email delete confirmations. For me, I go through a ton of emails everyday and it's a pain to confirm I want to delete each one - especially since it's easily recoverable if I do so accidentally. For me, this isn't as much an enhancement as it is a bug since it is so standard and has been for years on email clients. Puts the N900 on level with other devices. |

Do you know you can delete multiple emails at the same time? Go to menu in inbox and delete messages. Then just highlight each message you want to delete. You do still get the 'do you want to delete?' pop up, but at least you only have to click yes once, as apposed to every single email.

One thing I use it for is to read/delete emails that are informational to keep up with volume. My work account alone gets 100-200 emails a day - I've always been used to deleting as I go. If I don't, I'd have to remember to go back and sort through and figure out which ones I want to delete vs. which ones to keep. I'd have to reopen a lot of them again. A lot more time consuming - especially with the volume and limited real estate. Thanks for the suggestion though. |

Anyone? Is this something that only bugs a few of us? I wonder why everything else has it then... always the first thing I turn off in email on mobile devices...

Re: N900 Delete Email Confirmation: Want to disable it?
The N900 mail client needs to support a "Trashcan" or "Deleted Emails" folder, into which deleted emails are moved. Then there is no need for a confirmation dialog, and no need for a preference to turn it on or off.
Pretty much all email clients (mobile or desktop) support a folder for deleted emails - the Nokia Messaging client on the N85 has such support. A confirmation dialog prompt is only necessary when then the action is "undoable", and email deletion becomes "undoable" when there is folder from which to retrieve the "deleted" email(s). When manually deleting emails from the "Deleted Emails" however there MUST be a confirmation prompt. And emails should be automatically removed from the "Deleted Emails" folder according to a configurable schedule ("Purge items older than X" where X is 3 days, 5 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month) |

I'm not sure I agree that removing the confirmation prompt for an "undoable action" is a standard feature anywhere - it's a complete breaking of the rules in most user interface guidelines. What you may be saying is that it's a standard feature not to have to confirm deletion of emails in other email clients BECAUSE those other emails clients support a "Deleted Emails" folder. Adding a "Deleted Folder" will allow you to "undo" the delete action which then obviates the need/requirement for a confirmation dialog in the first place. |

I believe a bug was submitted regarding the deleted items (and synch) with more than just the inbox and sent items (e.g. drafts as well), but Nokia/Maemo said it's "too complex" to do and gave a link to the email framework they are looking at for Maemo 6. Saw this a couple weeks ago so Maemo/Nokia can pipe in if something's changed or this isn't accurate. My view is if I accidentally delete something (which is a purposeful action) that I didn't want to delete, then I would just have it resent. Sometimes I can't find an email I am looking for and not sure if deleted, filed in one of a hundred folders or removed because of my company's aggressive retention policy (deletes emails every 2-weeks, which is not unusual - maybe a bit more aggressive - than people I know in other G100s). In other words, some of us would like to at least have the *OPTION* to disable this, but it's not necessary if a user doesn't want to. I'd hate to not allow the option for those who want it because other functionality isn't there. |

swiping right/left to delete a.la the iphone/pre would make it simpler and faster. I have no idea why it hasnt been implemented

Re: N900 Delete Email Confirmation: Want to disable it?
yes, these features are needed. Even an option like the author said would be nice. The first thing i use to do on a WM device was turn that off. Once i am done reading an email and want to delete i don't need a warning telling me are you sure.... yes, i said delete!!!
