I got a rebate on mine, and I doubt they were trying to clear inventory in April. But maybe they were.

So I questioned him and he said "Let me try this second SKU #" -- and behold, it was in stock.

For some reason the tag for it on the display had two different SKU numbers. And if you do a search for nokia 770 on compusa website it shows it twice, each one with a different SKU. I can't see any difference between the two either.

One has the 2005 software, one has 2006

I only had one white screen of death. It happened when I was repeatedly restarting it when I was trying to flash to the 2006 software. The flash was failing due to user error.

If you find yourself rebooting your unit this often (enough to cause a white screen) you might want to look into how you are using it. It's a linux based device. There is very limited reasons to turn it off / reboot / restart it.

I rarely reboot it, actually battery went dead and when I plugged it in to charge, WSOD appeared and it was DoA after that. The first one came with WSOD right out the box. My original one that was over 6 months old worked great rebooting numerous times, unfortunately, it got stolen :(!

So far I'm on my 2nd day with number 3 and had to reboot it last night because I installed the clock applet...boy was I sweating during the reboot process, but it came back up.

Regardless, rebooting something shouldn't cause it to fail even if it doesn't need to be rebooted often. Hopefully it is just a bad batch of vid chips that got out and not a design flaw, really wish someone from Nokia would own up to the problem and at least let us know why it happens. When I ask that question directly to tech support I got no response, just the standard reflash it and if that didn't work send it in. Gee thanks Nokia for that exceptional response...NOT!

When I talked to them in July, when mine wsod, they knew it was a problem, didn't know what exactly caused it, but it only seemed to be a small batch, and only on multiple reboots.
