MSN RTCOMM Network Error issues
I've been using MSN as an RTCOMM module (through telepathy-haze) for two years now and never had any major problems... the most recent update was according to Qole's guide on setting things up; but in the last two weeks or so I've suddenly noticed that MSN never connects anymore, it just keeps saying "network error". I'm guessing that maybe MSN servers changed/protocol got bumped, something? I've tried it on two other N800s that used to work just fine and now have exactly the same problem; anyone else run into this? I know the focus for most developers is the N900/Maemo5 now, but I really was looking forward to keeping my N800 as my IM device! I've got an SDK setup for other things, if anyone has any ideas as to what might be the problem I can try to make changes and/or compile more recent packages if required, I just don't know where to start with all this...
Thanks! |

Re: MSN RTCOMM Network Error issues
Gonna bump this to see if there is any response. I have finally had chance to have a bit of a dig about.
Both my N810 and N800 have stopped connecting to MSN with a network error message. My N800 largely sits there unused nowadays so I don't think it's a problem on a tablet. I have checked my account using empathy on a recently installed ubuntu laptop, and it connects straightaway, so it is not my account, or me not remembering the correct username or password! I have had a poke inside Qole's hacked libpurple deb, and the certificates look to be correct. I'll try and copy the certs across to see if they help. Has anyone else had this, and managed to get it going again?? |
Re: MSN RTCOMM Network Error issues
In UK also and my MSN under RTCOMM stopped working - as did yahoo. MSN now sorted - Y! not... (logged into Yahoo mail the other night to discover account suspended from lack of use - even after reactivating RTCOMM is giving a network error).
If I recall correctly what got MSN working again was to update telepathy-haze to 0.2.1-2 . Should note I had also followed Qole's guide when initially setting up and everything was grand until somepoint - I believe in -December. Would see to coincide with jolouis' problem. Assuming installed version of telepathy-haze wasn't updated since setting up MSN this should be worth looking at. |

I've upgraded telepathy-haze to 0.2.1-2 and libpurple0 (apt-get update && apt-get upgrade) and now MSN can connect. |
Re: MSN RTCOMM Network Error issues
Thanks guys.
i have now manged to get MSN to connect on both N800 and N810. i could do it all from app manager, enabling extras-devel, then changing to "red pill". Red Pill can break your tablet if not careful! i needed to update telepathy-haze to version 0.2.1-2, and libpurple0 to 2.6.3-6nix0, and then reboot manually once app manager had completed updating. |
Re: MSN RTCOMM Network Error issues
Awesome thanks guys! I just did an "apt-get install telepathy-haze" and it told me it would upgrade both haze and libpurple0, let it run, and then just disconnected from Wifi and reconnected and it's up and running again! Not sure what the change was but thanks!!
