It's regrettably not great.
Basically, if you have someones face (in landscape mode) under 1/2 the height of the screen when recording, it's going to be somewhat noisy, and it rapidly tends towards invisibility.

Yea, you can set up services like flickr so that all you have to do is go to the video and press "Share to service" and it will upload and post it from your phone.

Has anyone had any problems with the leds overheating? I am concerned about using the flashlight app in case the N900 is not designed to handle the leds being kept on. If it was designed to handle it, why not have it built-in to the camera application (that said a friend of mine demonstrated how lacking the camera app is compared to his 5800XM so perhaps its just missing in action like many settings are)?

I came from an Xperia X1 which did have a problem with the led burning out if you used it as a flashlight for more than about a minute. When shooting video it could be on a long time and I do not fancy breaking my N900.

That said, I think on the N900 you can access the LEDs directly and you would think the driver would prevent it being left on for longer than intended. In the X1 it was a hack in the camera library to access the LED, as by default it only functioned as a flash.

The N97 has about the same flashlight hardware, I assume, and it supports recording with flashlights on. So it should be safe on the N900, too.

when i use the flashlight and run the camera app,the flash will turn off again by itself...... :(

Flashlight works fine, and i think the developer has added the published limits to the output to avoid problems. Unfortunately, to get it to work while the video cam is recording, you have to turn it on after you start recording, because the camera app will turn the LEDs off when you push record.

I just tried it again and it works "fine". It's still not useful though unless you want to edit out a few seconds of you fumbling with your N900.

Open shutter
Start recording
Tap screen to go out of fullscreen mode
Bring up control panel and switch on flashlight
Return to full screen in video recorder

Now I know why it didnt work. The flashlight icon did not show because GPS was searching. (GEO Tag was enabled) Perhaps not enough room for it to show the icon?

you have missed the thread about this.....search for the lfocus app.it does leds as well as manual focus for video
