Re: Don't count on N900 as your primary camera for Xmas
N900 is pretty good if lighting is sufficient. Greatly improved interface over previous Nseries (though lacking in certain camera feature options).
For taking photos of people (which I guess most general camera phone persons do) Xenon flash (like on the N82) would have greatly helped. If you are familiar with the N82, (over two years old now, right?) you'd know that that's pretty much good enough to replace point and shoot cameras. But N900 is the interim geek phone which Nokia aren't plowing too much resources into. I really hope they put Xenon into its successor. |
Re: Don't count on N900 as your primary camera for Xmas
I guess its just me, but I'm not able to see any photos that I take with my N900 using the Photos app. I'm able to see them when I go to File Manager. Anyone have any idea of some settings that I'm supposed to do? I've chosen All Images as the folder to view.

Outdoor photos in good light have been great so far though. I've also found a problem of the flash firing even when I select no flash. |

The estimated time goes anywhere from less than a minute to close to an hour; fluctuating in an absolutely random (for me) fashion. Anyone else face the same issue? |

Re: Don't count on N900 as your primary camera for Xmas
Yeah, my initial impression of the camera is mixed. I tried taking shots, but there were too much delays between fully depressing the shutter and it actually taking the picture. I also got some motion blur because of that.
That being said, the video function actually worked quite well in capturing my nephew's skit. That being said, my wife's Moto Zine still wins out as far as camera phones go. |

this camera is trash and nokia wont lift a finger to change it cause it would be too expensive to come up with some kinda hardware change for every one who brought one |
Re: Don't count on N900 as your primary camera for Xmas
You do know that there is a photo thread documenting photos taken by the N900, many of them are of acceptable quality. I don't quite agree that the camera is trash but to each is own.

I have to say, after playing around with the camera for a few months that I've started to warm up to it.
As long as you have sufficient lighting so that you don't get any sensor noise or that damn blue tint from the chrome, then the images are really nice. I don't think I've ever seen a mobile camera that can get so sharp close-up pictures. |

Re: Don't count on N900 as your primary camera for Xmas
When was this phone ever previewed or reviewed as a camera replacement? I wish the camera was better but at the same time I was not disappointed as I had read thru a good few previews back in December when I got mine. I did not set my expectations too high.
I think those looking for a camera phone that has above average picture quality need to look elsewhere. |
Re: Don't count on N900 as your primary camera for Xmas
Who has ever chosen their cell phone camera as the primary one?
How about a thread titled "Your N900 just won't do it for shooting Avatar 2"? Or "Electron microscope? FAIL N900!" |
Re: Don't count on N900 as your primary camera for Xmas
Oh and while it aint a primary camera replacement this thread clearly shows that it can take some half decent photos once there is proper lighting...

Don't bother with the flash which will only upset the exposure and white balance, I always have the flash off. With a steady hand and non-moving objects, it can still take good pictures under not-too-low light. I've compared pictures with Motorola Droid personally under different situations, N900 won hands down. The N900 is the only carrying around "camera" I use and it serves me very well, the only other camera I have is Nikon D300s which of course I can't carry that in my pocket. |
