N900/Meamo programs/wi-fi help

I admit this is my first post, but i have been on the maemo forums occasionally. I am thinking of getting an nokia N900 but i have a few questions.
1) I know meamo 5 is an open sourced OS, but i am not programmer and i know about open office. Being raised in a windows world, can i get Microsoft word on the n900 also how do i install and get open office and will open office files work on my windows laptop?
2) I go to university, and my school has a Wi-fi, i would like to connect to the wi-fi. so far only iphones can connect to the wi-fi because the iphone OS is the same as MAC OS and windows XP/vista/7 are identified by the wi-fi. My friend has a Winmo smart phone and when he connects using the user name and pass it asks for a domain. Will i be able to connect to the wi-fi? (with a N900)
