Hi,

i swear i tried looking. but i couldnt find an answer.

is there a way to get pidgin to flash the led when recieving IMs? jus like the conversations app?

i'm searching this too but there is only such a plugin for the n800 so we have to wait till someone ports it :)

couldnt find any candidates in devel. so nobody is working on it at all. shame.

the built in IM conversation is ok but not as user friendly as pidgin. sometimes some contacts don show up. and sometimes they show up but i cant send them an IM for some reason.

i installed it on my n900 but it didnt work, even after changing the MCE LED Pattern from 'PatternCommunicationChat' (doesnt exist in maemo 5) to 'PatternCommunicationIM' or any other one in mce.ini.

UPDATE:
apparently it does work! i dont know why it wasnt instant, but it works fine now.

steps:
1) download: http://maemo.jabber.dk/pidgin-n800-l....2-2_armel.deb
2) in xterm as root, go to the directory you downloaded the file to and install it with: dpkg -i pidgin-n800-led-plugin_0.2-2_armel.deb
3) start pidgin and go to TOOLS->PLUGINS. find the "Nokia LED Plugin 0.2" in the list and click Configure Plugin.
4) where it allows you to enter an MCE LED pattern to use, enter:
PatternCommunicationIM
close out of it all and see how it works. it took about 5min for it to begin working for me -im not positive what caused the delay.
might need to restart the mce service to reload mce.ini if you want instant gratification.

hey guys,
i installed pidgin plugin for MSN and yahoo but didnt work but when i uninstall it, all components were uninstalled but pidgin extra protocols (bonjour and sametime) is not uninstalling .... need help :(

I'm not able to enable (I have enabled) the sound notifications. How do you do that?

Edit: Ok. The pidgin sound notification is also depended on the devices own sound volume :(

I installed Pidgin via the application manager. When I click the update button in the application manager will it look for updates for pidgin or do I have to manually download from the pidgin website?

Yes, the app manager will look for updates automatically, that's one advantage of using it to install stuff.

I also downloaded it on my phone, and did configure the msn account. But it says it cannot connect.

Which port / adress do I need to use?

Dunno how your network is but I didn't have to use any special settings when I installed it a week ago. Over the past few days though I've been getting alot of trouble connecting with it for msn :( That's why I was wondering if it needed updating.

Stupid question but: Why are we coding for pidgin instead of adding features to the integrated IM?

Second question, a little more smart: Is there a way to add Gfire as I have in Linux desktop?

Since on the n900 it scrolls by dragging the contact list, is there still any way to merge contacts?

I'm having a problem with pidgin. First my status somehow is stuck on "away" with a big box underneath that says "I'm not here right now".
It will not change to any other status.

When I tried to uninstall pidgin, it will not uninstall. It comes back saying "unable to uninstall Pidgin Internet Messenger. Some applications packages are needed by other applications."

Any idea what I can do?

Hi, I am not recieving any sound notifications when someone IM's me, any way to apply that?

Go to Tools, Preferences, Sounds Tab.

Check out the options there. Sounds for the built in default sound theme are not very high....

The sound waves are in:
/usr/share/sounds/purple

Two reasons that I can think of:

- Pidgin has a set of features based on long time development, whereas the integrated IM has a minimum of features and tries to reinvent the wheel. The buddy list in a multiprotocol IM client and the contact list in the N900 are two different beasts completely. At least today.

- People don't want their every world wide contact to show up on their list when they want to dial out. Also, they do not want every people on their phone list to be able to see their online status. For instance, I would not have the pizza place see my online status, nor would I want the support dude on my foreign web host to list on my carphone kit.

All this could be fixed by adding multiple contacts lists, better filters and more in the integrated IM client, and most importantly, a good buddy list. But as it is now, I don't really feel using the integrated IM client is good enough to use.

In principle, though, integrated IM client sounds like an excellent idea... But several hundred names to scroll through when in a hurry to dial out doesn't.

I agree with this, actually I now regret importing my msn account on IM since my address book is flooded with msn accounts, I cannot merge them since many people are not in my phone book and I communicate with them only through msn. I know I can filter but it is still time consuming.

Is there any way to remove the msn contacts that were added easily instead of having to either manually remove each or erase the contacts list?

I would like to know about this as well. I installed the "extra plugin protocols" yesterday and suddenly my Contacts list has tripped in size due to all contact from yahoo and MSN.

U can use groups to see only ur sim/phone contacts. I just want to get rid of all the im contacts.

I want to get rid of them as well...because I removed the extra protocol plugin and now will install Pidgin instead.

I'm a new N900 user, coming from an N810. I'm probably missing something obvious here but I can't figure out how to make Pidgin run in maximized/full screen mode. On the N810 there's a dedicated button to maximize a running app. How do I do that on the N900? The UI Pidgin causes the actual chat window to be very small.

Can anyone use the Pidgin status menu app?

I had it uninstalled for quite some time and now it won't appear there anymore.

Reboot didn't fixed it.

Is there anyway of my linking my pidgin so that new IMs sent by friends come up on my conversations inbox widget on my desktop just like for example if i got a SMS? That would be really handy if someone could help me out on that.

Instead of pidgin use extra protocol plugin. That integrates im with conversations inbox.

has anyone else problems with the latest version of the statusbar plugin for pidgin?

if it's installed and i try to start pidgin an error pops up like "internal error. program is shutting down."

that sucks... because showing a small icon for new messages in the statusbar is really sweet :D

I have a general question about Pidgin, I hope its ok to add to this thread. I'm a long time user of Pidgin on my N810 but now that I have a N900 with all its integrated accounts for IM's it seems Pidgin is an unnecessary redundancy. Why would use it if my N900 can already do IM's and SMS built in? The only thing I miss is the "user is typing" message....

I am having trouble downloading 'Pidgin plugin for conversations and contact' I'm getting a message saying that the 'upstart job' package is missing. Anyone know where I can get that package from?

People don't like having all of their instant message contacts integrated into the phone contacts

ARGHHHH! :confused: This is so frustrating. When I enter my AIM account information it accepts it but then says 'not signed in'. Anyone know what I may be doing wrong? I sucessfully signed into Yahoo, is there something wrong with the AIM login?

I'm using pidgin right now, but I don't like the notification when someone speaks to you... I just want a simple small pop up like it was with the integrated one. I downloaded a plugin for notifications but still the only thing I can set is when someone speaks to you the screens popup over all screens or like i have now, browing the web and you can't see who talked.

Is it possible to get a popup if someone talks to you like there was in the integrated one?

problem solved:

just go to ~/.purple and delete "prefs.xml".

a new prefs.xml will be created on next pidgin startup.

it seems that old/false preferences are responsible for this error.

the only thing i can imagine:
using dbus to show the messages

(the theme-colored banners which appear when something important happens - i hope you know what i mean xD)
