squeaky screen & keyboard gap

hi all,

ive recently discovered that a sound can be heard coming from the screen whenever i press it at the right border - basically where the display ends on the right hand side - pretty much along the whole hight. seen how the screen is very scratch prone, hence fingernails are out of the question, i tend to scroll back in the browser by applying my thumb from the outer edge and make a sweeping motion to the left. no extra pressure is applied and the sound only appears on this side of the screen. it occurs when the device is warm, as during charging (90% of the time ;)) and i think the thin layer of plastic covering the lcd itself gets "glued" to the lcd, and the "ungluing" produces the noice. anyone noticed anything similar?

issue 2:

can anyone confirm a crack under the "x" and "c" characters through which light protrudes? i think its been there from day 1.

issue 2 i can confirm on my own n900. I noticed it the first day but didnt care too much as its only really noticable when using the n900 in the dark and the light from the backlit keyboard shines through the crack. Plus thats normally where i place my left thumb so i dont notice it too often.

I've got the gap under C/V and to a lesser extent under the N key. My screen 'clicks' around the bottom right of the screen.

the top left of the lcd frame seems to be a little loose. can anyone confirm this? if you hold the top and bottom left of the screen and shake it up and down. there is a slight play?

Could it be the memory card slot under the battery cover? That is the only rattling sound I get from my device when I shake it.

Re: squeaky screen & keyboard gap

nah, it' definetly not the memory card slot, it's on the other side. I can tap all the way down the right side of the device and this rattle is there :/
I'de take it to Nokia care but I dln't think theres any in/around my area, lol.

My screen clicks when I push down on it. At first it was just the top right corner and now it clicks at the bottom too. Yes, it clicks when the phone is off.

anyones clicking/loose near the left of the nokia logo? on the fame top and bottom?

Re: squeaky screen & keyboard gap

mine doesnt do that but from rubbing my finger down front the top left of the screen nr the front cam all the way down to the led, u can feel bumps ( the cam sits way under the height of the mic) with the plastic screen ontop. maybe yours is raised more then it should be and causing a gap to creek?

My N900 also rattles in the same place when I shake it. Perhaps it is a switch for determining the screen orientation? I had a camera that did the same.

I'm having the same problem, and I think it's the IR port's cover that rattles, can you confirm this?

Anyone else having the same problem?

Re: squeaky screen & keyboard gap

though i was lucky with keyboard frame but it seem after one month frame is flexing up around x and c keys
i wonder how hard would it be to replace it if nokia come up with better quality frame because one they using now will go funny for just about anyone after some weeks of months, i think there is two screws holding it in place so i'm not too worry and it is for now nothing more but cosmetic issue but still, with top class device like the n900 we shouldn't have such issues

Re: squeaky screen & keyboard gap

Has anyone called Nokia about the screen clicking? Or has anyone been able to determine it isn't just the screen flexing, but an gap on the edges? Of course now that I'm in this thread my screen isn't doing it.

Re: squeaky screen & keyboard gap

The "rattle" sound coming from the camera area is the accelerometer I believe. As for the clicky screen, isn't this because its a resistive screen so contact has to be made between two layers in order to register a touch? N900 is my first touchscreen phone, so I don't have much experience with other resistive screens, but I thought the somewhat "clicky" nature of the screen under a certain level of pressure was normal. Am I wrong?

Re: squeaky screen & keyboard gap

the accelerometer is solid state so it should not rattle.

Yes :P

The resistive screen is very close, contact is made when you lightly touch the screen. The play you see when pushing down is the resistive assembly bending down to the LCD, equivalent to pushing on a monitor until you see the colors shift/wave.

The play is very, very small. Any visible play would affect precision substantially, especially for small controls. There's a topic out there with some ruler on the draw app and it's really, really precise.

Also, the resistive isn't floating on air, so that vibration doesn't randomly touch it. There's a layer between layers, the screen is pretty much solid state.

Back on track, I have no rattle but the lower edge of the keyboard is not glued to the phone and it's annoying but it's there in both my N900s.

What you hear there is probably the SDcard holder.
it's normal that it rattles a bit when no card is inserted.

Oh , is it normal then ?

I have the same problem , the rattling noise (metal noise) is coming from memory card holder , I haven't put a memory card inside it yet , do u have the same problem?

Cheers.

My display has a crack near the speaker. Not in the glass above the display but in the display it self, it spreads from left to the middle of the screen in very fine lines. It is like the display is under stress when I use the touchscreen the lines are spreading even more and change their color.

But Nokia says it's my fault ... and I have to pay 99€ to repair it. But I did nothing to the phone. All around it has no sign of scratches or something but the display broke ...

I have exactly the same problem. Hardly use the phone, Never been dropped or banged and yet the display has gone, just some bright lines across it like lightning. My old N95 lasted years with plenty of abuse and never had a problem.

This is still a new phone, only had it two months. Will be interesting to see how many other people have broken displays and how long Nokia can keep saying not their fault.
