3270 terminal emulation?
Hello there!
Newbie here, got my N900 two weeks ago and have been playing with it non-stop since then. :) Unluckily, I'm back to work tomorrow and I was wondering... is there any 3270 terminal emulation software we can use? I found this (http://packages.debian.org/lenny/c3270), but it seems libc6 dependencies rule that out. Thank you in advance :) |

Hello,
newbie here as well and can't leave my N900 out of sight too! :) But I compiled a c3270 for work with help of the SDK :D (was quite easy, but I left most description and stuff on default...) You have to start it out of terminal application and probably adjust font size before. It works, but it's a real pain that there is no enter key on the N900! I don't know how you can leave out such an important key... So I would be very glad if someone can deliver a proper keymap to fix that miserable failure. Thanks in advance. |
Re: 3270 terminal emulation?
Thank you very much!
I installed the required libncursesw5 and started c3270, but I'm stuck there. How do I define the server I want to connect to? Thank you again. |
Re: 3270 terminal emulation?
I must be asleep :)
Just set up my VPN account and connected to my work server using c3270 ipaddress Now, the keymap issue... let's hope somebody can help. Thanks anyway, it's really cool being able to see my log-in screen :) |
Re: 3270 terminal emulation?
Happy New Year!
Just put this in a file and specify it with option -keymap: <Key>ENTER: Enter() Then the line feed key will be the enter key:) |

By the way, my problem now is that c3270 won't start unless I set my font size to 10. |

Attached an icon, a script and a desktop file.
icon -> /usr/share/icons desktop file -> /usr/share/applications/hildon script -> /home/user/apps change c3270 parameters in shell script, copy each accordingly and change mode bits. |

So I kindly ask you, if you can, to write the steps we've to follow to try C370. What I have to download? Where I could un-zip the files? Where I have to copy the files in my N900? Sorry for my stupid questions, but your software could be very appreciated, and useful for many people. ..And thanks! Sergio |
Re: 3270 terminal emulation?
Ok, let's see if I don't mess this up:
1) Download the .deb file Andz linked in the second post (c3270_3.3-1_armel.deb) 2) Open X Terminal, gain root access (sudo gainroot). 3) Go to the directory where you donwloaded the file. Typically, "~/MyDocs/.documents" or something like that. 4) Install the package: "dpkg -i c3270_3.3-1_armel.deb" 5) If you want the Enter key to work (most likely), create an empty text file with just one line: "<Key>ENTER: Enter()" (without the quotes). You can use vi or leafpad for that. 6) From X Terminal, execute something like: "c3270 10.10.10.10 -keymap fileyoucreated.txt" where 10.10.10.10 is your server's IP. If you make this work, just ask again how to create a shortcut (that's what Andz provided in his last post). By the way, Andz, I think I haven't said "thanks" to you for about 48 hours... Thank you!! :) |

I'll try for sure next days, after a good old N900 backup... :-) I'll keep the thread informed about my "newby" test. |
