Oh to get back on track...
I too love my n900 and I don't find it to have many shortcommings that is too much of a biggie. Lack of MMS and CBR reader are the biggest and at least one of them is in extras-devel ;)

I never denied the fact that I don't own a 3G or a 3GS. However I have plenty of friends that do and they constantly obliterate my current N900 and previous N95 8GB with their iPhones.

My experience with all variations of iPhones is hands-on.

iphone 3GS?? are you kidding me? sure it's a... little better then 3G.. but MMS, video recording and 3mp cam, and faster loading of apps isen't exactly what was missing in 3G version.. :D i need physical keyboard, i need clean fast real multitasking, i need good camera, i need high resolution screen, i need open platform, i need switchable batteries, i need customizable UI, i need a real internet browser, i need intergrated skype with contacts, i need great movie playback support, i need desktop widgets, i need controle over my phone and its operating system....

atleast one of these points rules out any other phone you meantioned or think of :) oh.. wait a minute.. all these points rule out the new iphone 3gs with the same hardware as n900.. wierd huh? :D

The user experience is subjective. How do you quantify people saying "Geeeez, it's waaay faster!!!" ?

Based on my experience I would say that it's about 30 percent faster.

Well one definition of love could be:
"An intense emotional attachment, as for a pet or treasured object."

But if it's new to you you should try it out... you might like... oh wait... love it ;)

You are a power user/linux afficionado. The N900 may be pefect for you, although the Droid or the X10 may be of interest to you.

he as no experience with loving a partner or even having one for that matter so he needs our feedback on the kind of love it is and how it feels

Re: I love my N900

the user interface is subjective yes..

rember that the iphone is a fast phone..

we are taking about split seconds- to a second for opening and using apps..

therefore this user experience even at your basis of 30% faster. could be something like the diffence between .5 of a second to .65 of a second- its immaterial.

Hope you understand the concept of cynicism. Read my post with that in mind.

Re: I love my N900

Well unlike the n900 the 3gs only does one thing at a time (and play music) so it should be a tad faster ohh and as stated before it has waaay fewer pixels...
That is ONE of the MANY things that makes the n900 so sweet (that I love it) the multitasking... doing lots of things at a time is a breeze :D

Are you saying that I can't experience the difference between .5 and .65? Try pulling a tooth of yours for exactly .15 secs and if you haven't noticed it, then you're lucky.

what would you prefer?

.22, .223, .30, .45, .357, .50?

Re: I love my N900

i love both phones equally.. i want to love my n900 more- but its battery dies abit to fast, the mail gets stuck sometimes and the phone is even worse than the iphone(which isnt great anyway)

but i love the im/txt intergration, the phone/skype intergration, the multitasking, the browser(mainly due to the high res screen), the media player, the customization, the open source, the geekability, the fcat that its not the phone every one has(iphone)

Considering this is a maemo-oriented forum.. I would prefer to see 100 "I love N900" threads than a constant stream of "N900 will fail because of XYZ."

Just personal preference though.

Re: I love my N900

of course i prefer a faster phone- the reality is that the user experience isnt that different, the phones do most things exactly the same(esp the thing s i use it for-- phone/gps/browser/txt/email)

my o2 contract is up for renewal in 15 days, and i dont know wether to get the 3gs or not-- as i use my gf's all the eime and i just dont know if its worth it over my 3g.

the 3g/3gs is like the difference between a vw golf to a golf s.

is it worth the upgrade- when what you really want is a completly upgraded phone and os.

first you make 20 times the average amount of threads p.p. withing 12 hours. now you start yelling there should be merging.

i cant wait whats next. just cant. I love movies. this one is just the bomb.

Please, if you are happy in general with the 3G and want something better and more user friendly, then get the 3GS.

But, if you are unhappy with the 3G, get an N900.

Either way you'll make a good choice.

i have the n900 its my personal phone..

my iphone is my work phone..

i have used all extensively.

oramge you do not have the same practical knowledge of these phones , i do not need your advice..

my point is that the user experience betwenn the iphone 3g and 3gs isnt that material, this is what you were arguing.

You are the first person I know that has an iPhone for work. You forgot to mention is it 3G or 3GS? You hopefully don't want to get into a spec pissing match with me on these phones.

First, I'm a mister and not a sir.

Second, opinions are cheap and plenty.

For the record: I recommended the person to BUY THE N900 if unhappy with the current device.

1. Sorry for not actually remembering all 68 posts ad verbatim.
2. So you DON'T have a 3GS experience
3. Does it feel good to call people trolls? What if I call you one? How would it feel? Wait people who LOVE devices may feel differently.

As much as I love my N900...I have to agree with this. It definitely doesn't pass the "Mom" test. Hell, my wife is fairly technical (or at least becoming so since we got married LOL) and I wouldn't recommend the N900 to *her* at this point. Maybe in 6 months when all the little glitches get ironed out it would be appropriate, but for now her 5800 is plenty fancy enough :D

Re: I love my N900

It took exactly 37 pathetic seconds for the N900 to render page 7 of this thread fully. This does not include downloading the page via wifi that took 8 seconds.

I challenge people to post their results for page 7. Scroll down to the very bottom and wait until it gets rendered. What are your numbers?

So one guys accuses me of dampening people's enthusiasm towards the N900. Two other guys mock me for recommending the N900 to poor souls.

Please make up your collective anti-troll mind.

its about being objective. you seem to fight yourself more than anything else
