Help for a newbie please
Hello all,
new to linux and getting to grips with the 770. Absolutely loving it - but have one major issue that is stopping me leaving the laptop at home. To do this I need to be able to view office docs: I understand that I need AbiWord and Gnumeric, but I am a complete Linux novice and can't seem to install them. Is there an idiot's guide anywhere. thanks in advance. sw |
Re: Help for a newbie please
I can tell how to install gnumeric. I don't know anything about abiword, and would thank anyone who tells how to do it.
In order to install gnumeric, you must first: 1. Connect your tablet to the internet. 2. Tools > Applications Manager > Tools > Application Catalog > New 3. You fill the form: Web address: http://www.maemo.org.br/platform/apt Distribution: mistral Components: user Active: ok Accept Done 4. Update list of packets? Accept. 5. Downloading ... 21 KB ... 57 KB ... :) 6. Catalog > Install new applications > All > gnumeric (it needs 40MB, although the compressed package is just 9,9MB; the downloading and installation may take five minutes, be patient) 7. Seletc > Extras > Accept Gnumeric installation completed. 8. Catalog > Install new application > All > gnumeric-plugins-extra I have tested with a simple xls document and it works. In case you've got any problem, just ask. Salut. sebas. |

Re: Help for a newbie please
You need to add all the correct repositories to download the dependecies.
Please look in to this tutorial. http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ead.php?t=3776 Here are the repo list http://maemo.org/maemowiki/ApplicationRepositories Good luck |
Re: Help for a newbie please
Trying it now
Thanks! |
Re: Help for a newbie please
Just a bit more help:
At this site: http://maemo.org/maemowiki/ApplicationRepositories you've got a list of all the repositories you should have installed in your Catalog. Do you remember the instructions to install the first repository we told you? Then you must do the same with all of them. That is: Catalog > New > webaddress, distribution, components > accept > etc... At this point it is not necessary to install any application, but just update the catalog of repositories. After that, you may install anything you like. I ADVISE you to install minimo. It gives you a lot of useful libraries. Don't forget to tell when you get it ready :) salut. sebas. |
