Hows your slider holding up?
Hello all,
I am beginning to become paranoid about my N900's slider.. I don't know why I feel it's getting loose!! Like it was a bit more rigid than now.. I feel like it's kind od shaky and has more space between the screen and keyboad than before.. But idk I might be really paranoid about this that I am making a big deal out of it.. So my question for you ladies and gentlemen.. How's your slider holding up? Are you experiencing the samething?... Is it normal? Should I stop worrying? lol... And if you don't mind can you guys take a picture of the side of the phone? (The side where there's the microusb slot).. If it's not normal I am thinking of getting a replacement.. I will take a picture of the side of the phone tomorrow when I wake up hopefully by then there will be other pics that I can compare it with.. Thanks in advance |
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
My slider seems fine after 3 weeks...perhap just a tiny bit looser than when I first took it out of the box, but nothing I'm concerned about. It was always fairly easy to move up.

Re: Hows your slider holding up?
I might have a heavy case of paranoia then.. :(
Does your slider shakes sideways though? |
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
Funny I was just thinking that mine is a little looser too just before I read this thread. Nothing dramatic but it is definately not as tight as it was, mind you I have been a bit paranoid about my N900 since I dropped it the other day. No real sideways movement though (yet!)

Re: Hows your slider holding up?
my slider has a slight wobble :(
|
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
mine has got a little more distance from the keyboard and the left side slides down quicker then the right side. I was expecting worse. though, so this doesn't really bothers me. Got it from 5 weeks, very heavy duty

Good luck with the paranoia... :D |
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
Mine has gotten looser too :(
|
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
Several weeks of heavy usage, and my doesn't seem any looser than day one. Definitely nothing even close to the words "slight wobble". I think I would be paranoid too if I were you. Of course mine doesn't have a functioning internal microphone, and I'm currently waiting for a replacement unit, now you've given me one more thing to worry about.

Re: Hows your slider holding up?
I've had mine for a few days now and it seems very in tact, I also made sure to look over it for things like that ( looseness and such ). So if your like me with your new devices, I'd go ahead and just get a replacement to put your mind at ease because you wont stop thinking about it, and may even really need to get it fixed. I'm thinking of getting another one just to have as a backup ( so no your not paranoid, Its called being a gadget enthusiast ). Most ppl who like to have nice things and keep them that way are like that, no worries.

Re: Hows your slider holding up?
Yeah. I have noticed the same thing. Slider gets looser after a while. Don't know if it's a problem.
Just discussed with my friend who also has N900 about the slider. He always squeeze from the middle of screen when hiding keyboard, not left or right side and his slider has stayed more sturdy than mine. |
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
I havent had any noticable looseness or any slider wobble and I had mine for about 3 weeks now. but it is one on my future concers as several of my friends have had slider phones and i seen how bad they can get. Heres hoping that nokia build quality can stand up to years of use!

Re: Hows your slider holding up?
2 weeks have past and my N900 is in excellent condition.

By some reason just couple of days ago i started to avoid to open the slider too many times a day while of course it should easily be able to handel it(if you have seen the videos around the net of Nokia's testing facilities testing just these things over and over again). |
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
The slider on my N900 (3 weeks old or so) feels as solid as ever. There's no wiggle or wobble or shake.

Re: Hows your slider holding up?
Mine has a little loose on the slider too. When I open or close it, its not as steady and straight as in the beginning. Its going a little bit left and right. Little dissapointment here.

Re: Hows your slider holding up?
Hmmm.. Well it should be able to stay tight not get loose or wobbly... :(
Like I saw this video and I think that mine is kind of the same thing.. and that's what made my paranoia grow even bigger!! Check this video out.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvDjml3ajJo EDIT: It's not quite like his.. but somewhat like that.. lol |
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
As long as it slides and makes that sexy sound, i don't see a problem. :D
|
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
Easier to move but no wiggle. I always expect a little give with sliders, this one seems pretty good.

Re: Hows your slider holding up?
mine definately got loose from the sides. when it is not open i can almost push it from left to right and vice versa. it is not alot but feels loose
|
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
Mine's a bit loose. I can't push it from the left or right when closed but after I open it partially I can.
Edit: By push I don't mean from the left or right side of the screen. But I can push say the bottom left up a little, and then the bottom right side a little. But once it locks it's rigid. So this is probably normal slider behavior. |
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
mine has loosened up a bit as well since i got it. Maybe that's normal since some of us have it

Thankfully, I don't worry about such things. I know a place where they have so many N900's, the sell them! Besides, if this one lasts me till the next Maemo 6 device comes out later this year, I'll be happy. |

Say... When you slide it open, it makes a rifle pumping sound... When you press keys, you hear rifle shots... ;) |
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
Someone here could be working on that, dan. ;)
No, not I. Last time I typed 10 PRINT "hello" the computer I was using blew up... It's a member here that I've been in touch with in regards to something similar. Maybe he'll post in this thread if he sees it and chooses to. And the keyboard key press sound can be changed now, no problem. I'd have to dig for it, but I remember seeing it in the file tree. |
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
Tight like a virgin, I've used it like 3 weeks now ;)
|
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
Oh, the jokes I could make about that comment... but won't. :D
|
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
Maybe your slders wouldnt loosen if you weren't all pushing them up/sideways?
Mine gave a nasty scratch on the left side of my keyboard. There is a fainter mark on the right side so I'm guessing its from leaning against something that slid the screen a bit (front pants pocket). |
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
Does anyone else have their N900's screen slider slightly crooked when fully opened? I've had the device for a week now and I noticed it the day I got it. Tried to get used to it but it's not easy, as it turns out :(. When you know it, it's hard to ignore.
Here's a photo of the device, notice that the slider actually slides a bit farther on the right side? And don't mind the fingerprints :P http://www.kolumbus.fi/jonkki/kiero900.jpg If it's a design flaw, I guess I can accept it, but if I am the only one experiencing this, then I think it should be fixed. Or am I just nitpicking? |
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
This guy is selling the slider mechanism on the bay HERE maybe it can be beefed up a bit to give less play, I did this with my old N95-2. Not sure I am brave enough to start messing with my N900 yet though, unless it gets really loose.
|
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
My slider has become so loose that when i slide it to expose the keyboard, there is a substantial gap on the right hand side. If I turn it on the side I can see a gap right through to the base section (if that makes sense). I'm not too sure what it is that needs tightening, if anything, or if this is going to be a case of replacing a part or something. Does anyone have any ideas????
Cheers |
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
Still sturdy after hundreds and hundreds of opens/closes
|
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
does anybody have a solution to this yet? Mine's getting pretty bad!
|
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
have had my N900 for 4 months now and the slider hasn't show any problems at all. I wish I could say that for the screen. It has a huge area, actually a half inch circle that is totally scratched. I will be taking it soon to a Nokia center to have it replaced. Whatever you do, don't put the device in your pocket without a bag or holder ot something !!
|
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
mine feels nice and firm after a few months, much better than my N95
|
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
I havea pretty fool proof plan on the screen. left pocket =http://www.boystomengifts.com/images...Clip-Large.jpg (I dont use a wallet), right pocket, n900. ALWAYS. I NEVER NEVER mix the two.
my wife however, slid some change in my pocket when I hands were full, and I freaked out, and pulled out my phone and yup.. small scratch.... gruh.. that thing is called the Smart Money Clip by strotus. have had it for 3 years now. works great! |
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
Mine has a little play in it (about 0.5mm) if I squeeze the phone, but overall it's still pretty firm.
|
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
My HTC Touch Pro also got a bit loose, after 2 years of having it, I was able to wiggle the screen around without the keyboard even beginning to open!
But it still felt solid. I would hope that the N900 is the same, Nokias have always been quite tough in the past. |
Re: Hows your slider holding up?
loose?? wtf?? i had an hour ago an new n900 in my hands.... and its slider (brand new) feels loose.... and mine feels to tight... maybe dust?!
