800 - obvious but (neccesary) questions thread

I'll go first - never used to turn the 770 "off" (ie shut then reboot) but always thought putting the case on sent the unit to a sleep phase - how is that achieved with 800? when it "goes blank" after a while it's still connected to net etc when you tap screen. is there a sleep mode to save bat life without having to do full shutdownb (770 wsod occured to me after an over-anxious bout of rebooting - been rather timid of it ever since!)

Followw up to flareup question... How does the screen and keypad lock work on this one? If I use soft carrying case/pouch in my pocket, where there will be occasional touching to the screen... I do not want it to wake up from sleep mode. I assume there is some kind of screen/keypad lock in the device... Propably very obvious once I receive my N800 and read the manual... :o

I don't see any setting for automagically ending the network connecton, other than in connectivity under control panel, where you can set the idle times for each type of connection.

Hit the power switch on top of the 800 and it prompts you for lock screen and keys, offline, lock device or switch off.

There is a device lock option in the control panel that lets you set the autolock period - 5,10,30 min or 1 hour.

Screen now has brightness period, and switch off display period., as well as a toggle for lock screen and keys when the display is switched off.

Under Connection Manager -> Tools -> Connectivity Setting there are two settings:

Connect automatically: WLAN connections
Search interval: Never

This will ensure that whenever you click on a URL, if a configured AP is available it will connect automatically. But when you disconnect the network connection, it will not automatically keep searching for the network (Search interval).

One more question: If I have 770 and make backup of the files and settings into the MMC card, can I restore it on 800? Are the OS's compatible with that standpoint? I assume the memory card format is the same that I can just pop in the RS-MMC card (with adapter) and the 800 will recognize it properly.

Cheers for the replies!

I must say i'm digging the new tab a lot have to agree with texrat on the niceness of the body styling

webb browsing is much faster - been doing lots of side by side tests and noticed one strange thing - lots more ads! not Popups butt top of page banner stuff

How do you prevent popups in this thing? its so fricken annoying! Is there something in the control panel options?

And also, how do i get rid of that "Discover Tableteer" on the desktop? I rather use that space for another widget, clock.

So do a lot of the sites that never worked well (if at all) on the 770 finally work? Examples: Netvibes, Google Calendar, Google Docs and Spreadsheets, meebo, Pandora.

I suppose that's because on the 770 the ads wouldn't work with Flash 6, but now they appear because the N800 has Flash 7? That's probably the only disadvantage in having a new version of Flash! :)
