Awesome. I just installed 0.4.2 and it works great. I'm not sure what the other package was for (wget 1.10) ?

Re: MyMenu

For those who prefer installing stuff with the application manager, I just found this:
http://qole.org/

MyMenu is in their repository =)

Re: MyMenu

I have qole repository enabled but i do not see MyMenu yet :-(

Re: MyMenu

Make sure you have the Fremantle repository enabled, not the Diablo one:

Catalogue Name: Qole
Web address: http://qole.org/repository
Distribution: maemo
Components: fremantle

Re: MyMenu

I tried searching for tsocks (which is in qole's repository too) with the application manager and it didn't show up either. Using apt-get install tsocks worked though so I assume it would work for mymenu as well..

You're not alone :-)

There is a Maemo.org "distmaster" just to help people like you (look him up on te web site). Also, there is a Python app to help create .deb packages (PyPackager I think).

Yep. apt-get install mymenu worked, though. I see debian-chroot etc but not mymenu in the application catalog. Quite strange.

Re: MyMenu

Got a strange problem: after installing any new program or running manual menu updater, a reboot is required as some part of desktop seem to crash and do not restart: i cannot switch windows and button in upper left corner disappears.

Re: MyMenu

Why are some apps not in the right category?? DrNokSnes for example...is not in "GAME." Where is the default calculator?? Liqflow IS NOT A GAME!! Pidgin Internet is an Instant Messenger and should be in a NEW category called "Conversations." In fact, I think "PHONE," "CONVERSATION" and "PIDGIN INTERNET" should in a SINGLE category called "CONVERSATION." Blobby Volley 2 is a game...so is LBreakout2 and MTouchGames. These should belong in Games category.

The program is nice, but it'll be EVEN nicer to be able to customize your own icons and move where ever you want in which ever category you want.

because the categories are hardcoded to the program. he needs to do this for all programs. just send him a nice mail, with your wishes, and then after some hours press the update button...

Re: MyMenu

Just as a FYI:
when I do "apt-get intstall mymenu", it gives me the following:

WARNING: The following packages cannot be authenticated!
mymenu
Install these packages without verification [y/N]

I just wanted to make sure that this is correct before proceeding. I don't think I've had that issue when installing any other package from qole's repositories before...

We have a paid maemo.org team member, our "Debmaster," who is supposed to help developers with packaging issues.

Please e-mail him, jeremiah at maemo.org and see if he can help you.

If he doesn't help, please report back to me.

Re: MyMenu

i have to say ... IT'S GREAT even i can't find it in qole's repository but its fine to use apt-get to install...

But i found that the category "learn&science" is not in Upper Case
and some apps and games are not in right category . for e.g Gweled,FloboPuyo,DRNokSnes and QStarDict,Canola in "Other" instead of "Games" or "Office" and "Multimedia"
Aniway thanks for this nice app

@romanianusa sorry had a hard night and a harder day - much work to do - but now im right back and will do my best - that all of you are happy :-D

@qole thx for the info with the Debmaster - will write him a mail after i have updated all apps

manzn 2010-01-05 20:37

Re: MyMenu

@all following apps are categorized in the new update:

Games:
gweled
flobopuyo
drnoksnes

Office:
qstardict

Multimedia:
canola2
vlc

learn&science
lybniz

zehjotkah 2010-01-05 21:17

Re: MyMenu

it is possible to rename/traduce "learn&science" to "Learn&Science" and "Lernen&Wissenschaft" oder irgendwas anderes deutsches? that would be nice.

manzn 2010-01-05 21:22

Re: MyMenu

@zehjotkah

hmm... in the next version :-D

maybe you know a better name for german - "Lernen&Wissenschaft" is too long :-(

zehjotkah 2010-01-05 21:28

Re: MyMenu

oha, thats difficult... maybe: "Lernen&Wissen" ?

PyPackager discussion thread

I haven't tried PyPackager, so I'm not sure how stable it is yet. In case it isn't, there is also a command line tool called py2deb. Documentation on how to use it is in the wiki

At any rate, thanks for the heads up, I'll check out PyPackager.

qole 2010-01-05 22:31

Re: MyMenu

You want py2deb if you want to get your package into the Extras repositories. I'm using it for my packages. But that app only works for non-compiled apps, like shell scripts or python apps. If you need to compile your app, you have to do it the "hard way"...

aspidites 2010-01-05 22:40

Re: MyMenu

I just installed MyMenu....wow!

The only complaint I have as of yet is of the "learn&science" folder. Perhaps "Education" or "Educational" would be a better name.

Seriously though, I'm impressed. Seems the most used apps are simply launchers where as everything else is distributed in appropriate categories. Very nice, indeed.

Hi manzn!

Thanks for your email about your package. I will download it, and see if I can help out.

I will build it in the SDK, and perhaps on the device and see what I come up with. I will mail you privately regarding the deb - unless you prefer I contact you here?

Re: MyMenu

thanks i much prefer this menu to the stock one.

A few mods needed for categories: maep should be in gps, Location Test in gps, irssi in network, Transmission in network, Tuner in multimedia

HtheB 2010-01-06 12:30

Re: MyMenu

Is it possible to make a "non Development" version? You can change this into "Tools".

Not everybody is a developer, which will lead the Development folder into "an empty folder which will stay empty for ever"...

Tools is very handy for apps like File browsers etc.

Is it also possible to place the following apps in the right place?

VGB - Games
DrNokSnes - Games
MaemoFTP - Network
Mussorgsky - Tools
emelFM2 - Tools
Mirror - Tools
NS Schedule - Tools

How about to add a new language (Dutch version)?
The things that needs translations are:

Network = Netwerk
Other = Overige
System = Systeem
lean&science = Educatie
Office = Kantoor
Tools = Gereedschappen
Graphics = Grafisch

I hope this is possible! :)

Cool. Any joy with the auto-categorisation based on package? If not, if you think it's valuable, I can try sending you a patch?

You're going to want to use that so you don't have to move all these by hand. All the apps are already categorized by their control file, so using that information would make the most sense. If it's fully automated, you don't have to deal with separate cases of developer and non because only if development tools are installed would the Development menu have something in it.
