Manzn:

Sometimes Thanks isn't enough.

I keep an internal Heros list. There's no reason to list the recipients; I know who they are.

You are on my personal list.

Expect a man with a million-dollar check to knock on your door any day now. (joke)

Thanks!

Game isn't in repo, it is just added to mymenu if you have it installed now.

Yep - figured that out - found it in Qoles repo and have to say its a great little app. Especially like the fact you can update the distribution of apps config automatically.

The ones from GNOME Alsa down are part of the chroot-debian package (IE easy debian).

That's in extras - it's just "rfk" in the app list.

Great app. Already manage to start tweaking the hildon menus myself.

A real thumbs up man !

Now a question: If there will be updates (newer releases), how can we follow them? My logics would tell that the update menu function does not do it :)

Would like to keep this to the latest version, if someone does manage to find some bugs in it.

The update function does update it. :D

Re: MyMenu

I guess the following updates might be handy:

transitioncontrol.desktop to System
mediabox-mc.desktop to Multimedia
mmpc.desktop to Multimedia

horizon (horizon.desktop) is shown in the Other menu, but this app seems to be the same as attitude (which is in the graphics menu)

Also the hildon.menu file contains many 'DOS' line endings (e.g. ^M at the end).

mirakels 2010-01-09 20:32

Re: MyMenu

I forgot to mention I very much like this tool! Thanks for that.

A few remarks about the update.sh:
When I run it form the command line you wil notice the "/etc/init.d/hildon-desktop stop" and "/etc/init.d/hildon-desktop start" will give error messages and probably do nothing now. I does not seem a problem though as the menus on screen are updates when the new hildon.menu is installed.

What is the function of the "ping localhost " calls in update.sh
If you just want to wait some time you can use the 'sleep' command...
But why the wait for 10 seconds when all the work is actually already done?

Hi again,

One other remark. The 'info' tool (to show the message on screen) should be renamed to something more specific to avoid confusion and possible process name clashes. I guess men-update-info is a proper name.

I editted/beautified the update.sh a bit to remove the ping commands (and changed the name of the info tool). A few test showed no problems...

thanks - thanks - thanks - you make my N900 a little bit "easyer" :-)
The new Icons looks nice !
(a short question - Is the XBOX-Controller irreversible ? Could it be a PS3-Controller ?) :D

Re: MyMenu

Eesh, updating it (from Qole's repo) has caused some odd behavior. Desktop keeps flashing on and off and applications are gone. Time to remove.

Hmm well this is troubling.. how am I going remove it. Keeps booting to desktop, then flashes and then reboots.

Edit: I recommend caution before anyone installs this. Don't know if the issue is unique to my N900 but I'm pretty much in a reboot loop now.

Uh oh. I seem to have the same issue. Hmmm....

Re: MyMenu

its working fine for me as far as i can tell,
I have never had an older version installed its first time i've tried it, not sure if that makes a difference, maybe its the updating proccess that goes wrong is what i'm thinking.
you have got me scared about uninstalling it now though

Laughing Man 2010-01-11 02:40

Re: MyMenu

Maybe it is the updating process. I am in the process of downloading the firmware now to reflash the device. I can't seem to uninstall mymenu (I can't get to the prompt quick enough with the constant desktop refreshing).

skalogre 2010-01-11 02:41

Re: MyMenu

Well, got in to the machine with PuTTy and did a "sudo apt-get remove MyMenu" but I am still in a pickle. Not good. Anyone have any ideas?

Edit:
"dpkg: status database area is locked by another process" when trying instead "dpkg -r mymenu "

Have not rebooted yet, don't feel it would be a good idea at this point. Hmm...

Laughing Man 2010-01-11 02:52

Re: MyMenu

Don't reboot. That leads to my problem (the constant rebooting).

Unfortunately, it decided to do that for me. I checked (over ssh) with top the processes that were running - I thought I'd kill the manager but it just started rebooting. Crap!

Laughing Man 2010-01-11 02:56

Re: MyMenu

And my system is now reflashed. Good thing I did a backup earlier today. Just have to re-do some custom tweaks (like change boot video again) and re-install some testing apps I installed after my backup.

just noticed cpu-memory and brightness applets have vanished from my n900,
