Just firmware or eMMC and firmware?

Do just firmware. No need to flash the eMMC.

Hey, thanks. I'll try a few more things (if I can reenable my connection and SSH in it, that is). If not, well, reflashing!

Re: MyMenu

Went OK here. No problems that I've noticed.

Laughing Man 2010-01-11 03:16

Re: MyMenu

lemmyslender two questions (just to see if we can identify the problem)

1) Did you install it from here or Qole's repo?
2) Did you update it or install it fresh?

I installed it from Qole's repo and updated it.

skalogre 2010-01-11 03:17

Re: MyMenu

This thing needs to have the option of automated scheduled backups like my N97 had. At least most of my data is still here.

I installed it from Qole's repo and updated it.

I had done the same as you. So only the two of us so far?

Re: MyMenu

installed from qoles repo, brand new install - seems ok so far?

not sure if i like it tho.. i'll keep testing!

Re: MyMenu

Another report of no problems from a brand-new install.

I suggest completely uninstalling any previous versions of MyMenu before installing the current version, just to be safe...

tom_at_lp 2010-01-11 04:18

Re: MyMenu

i can also report no Problem.
i installed it directly from the deb-File and have no problems at the moment....

Laughing Man 2010-01-11 04:26

Re: MyMenu

I guess I'll have to try installing it again later..

Anyway, what's an easy way to restore the original if this goes ary again?

And I have this missing libpoppler2 problem that's preventing me from installing the decoders and xournal apps now..

So if anyone could help me with that, it would be appreciated.

Edit: Nevermind got it with a apt-get install

Re: MyMenu

There is a problem with updating the damm thing...it froze man...what the hell!! The previous version is more stable ...plus i think the icons set is better looking in the previous version.

You're making this worst...SORRY!

It froze up when i try to update..and i have to restart

Re: MyMenu

I like the new version icons - installed from the deb not qoles repo. Didnt uninstall first, wasnt aware there was an issue when I installed.

Re: MyMenu

Put me down for infinite reboot loop too - installed from repo and now it looks like I might need to reflash my firmware too

[edit] managed to hand up the boot process by clicking everywhere on the screen while the desktop was flashing - this allowed me to ssh into the device and issue apt-get remove mymenu

it gave a while bunch of errors but the reboot is stopped. Now i boot into the desktop but clicking everywhere no longer works. ONly thing I can click on is the status bar everything else is ignored.

Is there a way yo launch the backup utility from the ssh command prompt before I reflash?

Re: MyMenu

Brand new install from Qole's repo, hildon-desktop is segfaulting its *** off and after 10 or something crashes, device reboots and cycle goes on and on.

Do not install 0.4.3 unless you have fresh backup and are prepared to reflash!

manzn 2010-01-11 07:50

Re: MyMenu

@all pls don't install it again - i removed it from my server - that's too buggy I am sorry for this!

I hope, I can remove the bug!

Re: MyMenu

is there any way to fix it without reflashing the whole rootfs? maybe a small image that just prevents mymenu from starting?

Re: MyMenu

working fine for me.. updated over repo.loving new icons

Matan 2010-01-11 08:00

Re: MyMenu

This is why everyone needs a to install bootmenu and have an alternative rootfs on internal mmc or a microSD card. Then when such thing happens you can boot to the second partition, mount the ubifs root, and restore it to a good state.

If someone has such a setup and can upload a copy of hildon.menu and all .dekstop/.directory files that cause such a reboot loop, maybe we can analyze it and find out what the problem is.

romanianusa 2010-01-11 08:22

Re: MyMenu

Actually there is nothing wrong except when you use the "update-menu" under settings...that's when it froze up. Until you fix this, i won't be pressing that button at all.

Re: MyMenu

@manzn
maybe you can use the new icons from the updated program manager.
they look nice (maybe same categories, too?)

Re: MyMenu

Everything looks fine here so far, no reboots, I updated automatically this morning before I even knew you guys were having this problem. Actually, I was reading this post and the update process was taking place, then I got worried but it was too late to cancel it, luckly, everything seems fine.

I have not rebooted it yet, neither I have pressed the update icon under settings.

:)

I found an update in App Manager this morning for MyMenu and updated, now have the constant rebooting problem and will need to reflash the firmware when I get back home tonight. Oh the joys of development application testing :D

Is anyone actually working on the "show the categories and apps within them based off the category information in the package"?

Hardcoding apps to categories is so godawfully ugly from an architectural point of view, and can hardly scale once Ovi goes online.

Re: MyMenu

true !

what about an analysis of HAM database to determinize categories of programs ?

and then , why not using the brand new categories icons from HAM in 2009-44.1 instead of non-related icons, cause some of actuals one seems to be not from the same icon set, and GPS one is just ugly :-( ?

Exactly. The code's already written:

Not sure, but I think the HAM icons might be a bit too large; could be worth a play, though.

TheBootroo 2010-01-11 13:42

Re: MyMenu

and in facts , why didn't you parse the .desktop files to get the category ?

cause i made from my own a menu launcher for ubuntu in Qt4 and i used this method to get categories : in each .desktop file you may have a 'Categories=' line which contains a string of this kind 'Sound&Video;Multmedia;Audio" then you just save the first part of string split(string, ";",0) ...

tom_at_lp 2010-01-11 14:16

Re: MyMenu

@TheBootroo
Did you ever look in one of the .desktop-Files in /usr/share/applications/hildon ? There is no "Categories" ( - ok; i found "13" against 65 installed programms !! ).
AND the Categories are quit not usable (look some posts back...)
Example: Categories=Application;Game;PuzzleGame;
which Folder did you take for this ? Did you create 3 Folder and put it in all them ? ....
Regards Tom

PS: you are right: "may have" - but the files dont have...

Rob1n 2010-01-11 14:19

Re: MyMenu

The categories are in a list from least precise to most, and TheBootroo suggested only taking the highest-level grouping. The lack of categorisation in most .desktop files would seem to make this rather a moot point though.

Re: MyMenu

I installed from Qole's repository via Update in App Manager. I had previously only installed the previous version (maybe 1 before that, not sure).

I already had Qole's repository setup, so initial install was via apt-get.

Just installed the firmware update 1.0.1, still no problems. Works just fine. Not showing empty categories either.

@manzn: the sudoers.d/update-desktop file contains a reference to /opt/menu-update/info.
I guess that should be /opt/menu-update/mymenu-update-info

I had the previous version installed from Qole's repo (that's how I originally installed it)

I updated it using the update menu sh script in System

When the update came in Qole's repo I updated it

Then the desktop started flashing, the app installed but the screen kept flashing and when I checked the applications menu only the top row was there.

Then I thought to reboot it to see if that would fix it, and it went into a reboot loop. It would try to go to the desktop, kept flashing randomly until it would reboot.

I then reflashed my firmware.

Edit: I'll email it once I'm home.

Hmm, I was unaware we had gotten to the point where we can clone and run the OS externally again. I should set that up then so if this type of thing ever happens again I won't have to reflash just to get phone functionality back. =P

Re: MyMenu

I have a suggestion. Once the problems have been ironed out, could you make a few versions with different icon sets? Here are a few sets I would like for my device:

1. Buuf Deuce icon set
2. Aufkleber icon set
3. iComity icon set

This is what my previous phone looked like
