An application to align desktop icons/widgets?

Hey,

So... I'm pretty neurotic about aligning stuff perfectly and the desktop icons/widgets are driving me insane, since they are just freely draggable.

Is someone working on some app that would help you with aligning stuff on the desktops? I was thinking it would be cool if someone made a simple app that displays a "grid" on the screen that would ease the aligning process.

I'm kind of surprised that the default "aligning interface" doesn't even have edge snapping, which would also make it easier to align things...

Like this (hehe):
Code:

_|_|_|_
_|_|_|_
 | | |

P.S. I wasn't entirely sure whether this should be in "Apps" or "Design", so move it if you must...

I would really love to see some kind of "align/snap to grid" option.

Heh, I didn't even think of doing it like that! That's a very simple solution!

Tweakr has an option to enable snapping to grid for hildon-desktop.

I feel like I'm working for an advertising firm...

How come, that a program for sound profiles has such an option? :o

Installed Tweakr but I cannot notice that snap-to-grid has any effect. I've tried all the options (small, large, huge) and I still can't get icons to snap anywhere...

Actually hildon-home IS snapping to grid, but default is 2 or 4 pixels and you just can't notice it ;-) There is a setting somewhere for that, I'll look it up when I get to a PC (writing this on N900 obv).

Not on OS 42-11. Do you have a newer firmware?

Grid size is 1x1 on 42-11, definitely.
