Do you maybe have specific examples of that? I did notice the mdash one you mentioned earlier, but I'm not sure what you mean about this one.

Everytime I post the "it's" code it gets parsed, so I need to figure out why, but it looks like this without the spaces: I t & # 8 2 1 7 ; s

To give a little update on what I'm working on, here is a screenshot of a little widget. It currently displays the 8 feeds with the most unread messages. It will have a settings menu where you can select some feeds to ignore there. Let me know if you have specific requests/ideas on how to improve it.

PS: it's also missing a few votes to get the update into Extras: http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...ingit/0.5.4-3/

Does that widget auto update?
if it does then i guess it would be nice to know which one changed/had updates. (in a different color)

Can i click on it so that i jump right to FeedingIt on the feed where i clicked on?

I have voted. I works pretty nice now, except that auto rotate.. I disabled it and placed it hard in landscape. To many times it is in portrait mode when i dont expect it (i have the n900 in landscape mode) or when i have it in portrait but i have my keyboard slided auto (then i also want the program to be in landscape)

Yes and yes, although neither auto-update or open feed is working quite right yet :).

Re: FeedingIt - RSS Reader

hteink.min, are you using version 0.4.4-1 (the one from the Extras repository)? It has some issues with non-latin characters. The new version fixes it, but it needs a few more votes before Extras is updated. Once you can get to 0.5 version, let me know how that works for you.

im trying to download 0.5.. it said in need of beautiful soup.. so looking how to get it.. get back to u later.

You must be trying to install an older version manually. If you really want to install it, you need to enable Extras-Testing repository, and then do the update through the Application Manager (I would suggest not to upgrade the other applications that might pop up there unless you are testing those too). Once upgrade, disable the Extras-Testing repository again. Alternatively, wait for 3 more votes from the testers, and it'll be in Extras :).

Re: FeedingIt - RSS Reader

i used to enabeled the extras repository.. but these day.. i dunt know what went wrong.. the extra devil failed to refresh.. i used to update n download stuff n tried it... but now it just stuck.. da feeding it is great .. so i better wait for another 3more votes..by da way.. when i do refresh.. all the read content became unread again.. so da new version might have corrected dis problem...

hteink.min 2010-04-08 08:21

Re: FeedingIt - RSS Reader

okie.. i updated the repository link n now is working again.. it upgraded to 5.. but still got font rendering problem.. so i think it is not da feedingit problem.. i think sth do wth rss browsing doesnt seem to grab da correct font..

Re: FeedingIt - RSS Reader

This morning I added one new feed and now Feedingit gets stuck on "loading." Tried re-starting, and uninstalling/reinstalling, but the problem persists. I think I need to remove it from root. Any help much appreciated, e.g., xTerm code, or another method.

This is my most used and favorite app, so I am lost at sea... :(

Re: FeedingIt - RSS Reader

@sorodoros: can you open a X-Term, and type the command:
FeedingIt
and let me know if any messages appear there.
Then to reset it, you can do:
mv /home/user/.feedingit /home/user/MyDocs/feedingit.bak
(this will move the folder into MyDocs. You can remove it later, but I might ask you to send me a couple of files to figure out what happened).

I have this problem as well, though not with all the feeds. SOme of the feeds get all of there articles flagged as unread after a refresh. this did not happen with earlier versions.

Great app though.

Thanks,
Fred

The very first time you update after upgrading to the new version, all the articles will be reset to unread. But subsequent updates should work fine.

Here's the XTerm reply?

File "FeedingIt.py", line 682, in createWindow
self.listing = Listing(CONFIGDIR)
File "/home/opt/FeedingIt/rss.py", line 460, in __init__
self.imageHandler = pickle.load(file)
File "/usr/lib/python2.5/pickle.py", line 1370, in load
return Unpickler(file).load()

Thanks, that's one I would not have expected... Any ideas on what were the circumstances when that happened (phone crash, app crash? or anything of the sort?)?
If you haven't done the other command I mentioned earlier, you should be able to get away with this one:
rm /home/user/.feedingit/images.pickle
and that would keep your feeds intact.

Re: FeedingIt - RSS Reader

I think it was that last feed I added that caused the problem. So I'd rather full remove... not worry about preserving the feeds. What's the best way?

The first command will do the trick:
mv /home/user/.feedingit /home/user/MyDocs/feedingit.bak
(might give a few warnings about permissions not being preserved, but you can ignore that).

Well I just gave that a try amd it worked perfectly. Loads normally now. I have no idea why the error in the first place. Just one new feed and then the error. Possibly a corrupted image cache? But why?

this is a great rss app! may i suggest a live widget extension for the app? something similar to what the nokia default rss app does, a widget for the homescreen which lists the latest rss feeds for 'at a glance updates.' :D

Re: FeedingIt - RSS Reader

@sorodoros: not sure how it happened, but yes, it's the tracker for cached images. Sounds like something happened while it was saving its state to disk, and is unable to reload itself now when starting up. I'll add some better handling of this condition.

@thelushlife: see my post a page or two ago, I'm working on a widget right now (shows number of unread messages for now). Should be in extras-devel some time this week-end if all goes well.

Hi deans, the current version in extras-devel is the same as the one in Extras (0.5.4-3), so if you have that version, you're at the latest. If not, just upgrade from Extras. You will not lose any feeds during the upgrade (but all messages will be set back to unread). To make a backup, just in case, you can export the feeds in OPML (through the main window menu).

To FeedingIt, they both show as a data connection, so it doesn't really care if it's over wifi or mobile internet. Does your mobile internet use a Proxy, or some other connection specific settings? Does it work in other apps?

Re: FeedingIt - RSS Reader

there is one particular feed which won't update in Feedingit for me. It used to work but not anymore since yesterday (www.baka-updates.com/rss).

Tried to load this feed with the standard N900 RSS-reader and that didn't work either. Seems like all feeds which work with Feedburner are having problems with the standard RSS-reader but only this particular one doesn't load new feeds in Feedingit (tried other Feedburner based feeds and those do work in Feedingit).

Seems like Feedburner changed something, hope that won't have impact on Feedingit as i really love this app :)

This feed has a few atom articles without a link attribute. I didn't think this was allowed, but I'll add some safeguards in the next version.

Re: FeedingIt - RSS Reader

I have noticed one thing with feeding it and the internet connection... Not really a problem but if you try updating when you do not have an active connection, it will go through the process without actually making a connection and will also not show an error.

In these cases I have had to manually make the connection myself and then run update in feeding it again. This may also cause problems with the automatic update in feeding it. This mainly happens when I go somewhere where there is no network...

Is it possible to have feeding it automatically connect (if a preferred network is set - not set to "always ask") if there is no internet connection active?

The connection works like a charm in other applications, that's why I accused FeedingIt...
Is there any way to run FeedingIt in a verbose mode, or create a log, for troubleshooting?

Can you try to open the X-Terminal, and then typing:
FeedingIt
(case sensitive), to start the application. Do the update, and see if there are any messages that appear in the terminal. Thanks.

That's somewhat by design (bad design, but design nonetheless). If there is no data connections, it'll just skip the update. One day, I'll try to improve the experience there.

Auto-Update does not seem to work for me too. Not with mobile internet connection, and not on wifi connection.
And the 'update'-button on the widget itself does not seem to work either.

Does the update-all button (in the app) work, but not the automatic update? If not, can you do the same as above (start FeedingIt in the X-term)?

The update button of the widget is to update the widget, not the feeds. The widget updates every 30 minutes, but you can refresh it manually if needed. It's there mostly for testing.

Update-all in the app works fine. Just no automatic update, not on any connection.

Re: FeedingIt - RSS Reader

I am not sure why but I was just able to update to 0.6 with the widget, I love it. I understand that the widget only updates itself and not the main app. I have not tried auto-update on the app yet (I have been using an alarmed command to update FeedingIt, which also launched the application).

It would be great if the auto-update would work with the widget reflecting any updates at a later time. So, my question is: Does the auto-update feature of the application work when the application is not running or does it need to be instantiated for the auto-update to work? Sorry if this is answered earlier in the thread but I couldn't find it with a search of the thread.

Thanks for the great app.

fred
