[Announce] Qtify (spotify client) released

Hi All!

Yesterday i released the first "working" version of qtify - an open source spotify client based on despotify. It's currently translated to english, swedish, norwegian, finnish, dutch and german. Spanish, arabic and greek translations will probably be included in next update coming within 24 hours or so. Initial translations is posted here.

Vid showing Qtify 0.0.1-3
(deprecated).

If you are interested to try it out you find it in the extras-devel repository for fremantle. Note that this is highly experimental software and it isn't completely impossible that it makes your phone blow into pieces ;)

Report any bug in this thread or at http://qtify.garage.maemo.org

Known bugs (in 0.1.0)

* Segmentation fault if account has no playlists
* Random sound-dips (~100ms silence) (less significant in latest version)
* Freezes when clicking on play button with no song playing
* Language is automatically set to phone locale, not phone languange.
* No sound-device available in silent mode.
* Partial translations for most languages (help appreciated :))

Edit2: 0.1.0 released, buglist cleaned, new testing round initiated :)

Happy listening

Edit: Note that using qtify requires a premium spotify account.

Re: Announcement: Qtify (spotify client) released

*playback stop if the last track in playlist finish. (need to force the client to restart)

anyone working on improvements for despotify(lib)?

thx. keep up the good work.

I don't think it's actively developed... It would be awesome if someone with good C-skills could help them :)

Mh... if i tipe in the username ad my pw it crash ??

but why? i hve the new qtify 0.0.1-3 version thanks for help!

or work it only with premium and not with free ones?

Hexagoon 2010-01-06 18:51

Re: Announcement: Qtify (spotify client) released

It works only with premium... If you got a free account you´re stuck with the official spotify client for PC.

The client shouldn't crash though, that's a bug. Can someone confirm that the client crashes using a free account?

Cannot confirm that but can confirm that the client crashes with _premium_ account... Also tried running the client from the terminal and result was segmentation fault while updating the playlists.

Re: Announcement: Qtify (spotify client) released

Oh.. yeah, that's known as earlier if you don't have any playlists. I'll add that to the "Known bugs" list

It seems like the client segfaults if there is no saved playlist.

I saved a playlist with the PC-klient after that Qtify started w/o problem.

Re: Announcement: Qtify (spotify client) released

*if you use the next or back arrows without any tracks in playlist, Qtify close. (minor)

Re: Announcement: Qtify (spotify client) released

I've just released a new version with many bugfixes included (0.0.1-4), it will be out in the repos in half an hour or so... :) I've also included new translations for greek and spaninsh, would be nice if someone could verify they are working and correct.

I know some translations is missing for each of the languages, so feel free to post any additions/corrections in the translation thread

be sure to update despotify too, this might require an apt-get update, dont reallt know

Edit: If you have despotify since earlier (and only then) - you have to force an upgrade to despotify by writing

Quote:

apt-get -y install despotify
in a root shell

Happy listening, again ;)

Looking good, I love you for developing this. Much more fluid playing now as well!

One minor bug though, not able to adjust volume while choosing playlist.

And btw, what's up with this small control to the right of "next song button"?

Hexagoon 2010-01-07 22:15

Re: Announcement: Qtify (spotify client) released

Thanks :) It's supposed to become a volume-knob somewhere in the near future! I'll look up that bug and se if i comes up with a soultion

Hi!

nice if spotify could be used on N900 soon

i got a premium account, and i installed yesterday qtify, but client crashed/jammed on login.
Today i installed the update, and despotify(i'm not sure if i had installed it before) ...but same problem, client jams on login.

i tried uninstalling qtify and reinstalling it again...but no help :(

is there some requirements that i'm missing, or am i just being dumb?

Perhaps if you start it from xterm you'd see some error output? does despotify work? (type despotify in xterm)

is there problems with repos or any other reason for qtify not showing up in my app manager? (had similar issue with mbarcode yesterday when trying out optification aka couldn't find app after uninstallation)

Nice.. works great. The Finnish translation is a bit funny though. It seems that there were a few different translations there in the thread."Loading playlist..." does not seem to be translated at the moment.

The biggest advances that can be done here are in the user interface. Have you ever used the s60v5 spotify app for instance? But as a first release this is phenomenal. Thank you!

despotify just displays this
...................
OFFLINE

haven't used it before, don't know what it should do

Stop the press!!
Qspotify opened... there is something to do with connection used and authentication. Qtify got connected while in 3G - network, but my local WLAN seems to just hang on authentication.
Also i changed my password in Spotify.com, it was whining about wrong username/password all the time.

now i can login, but only through 3G, is there some spesific tcp ports qtify needs opened to work in WLAN too?

i can list my playlists now, but nothing plays
but this is sooo close...

WHAT... now songs play, must been user related problem :p:rolleyes::D

Great, seems to work... have to play with program a bit to test it.
wuhuUU! :D

If you want to you can post whats wrong with the finnish translation in the translation thread, then i'll fix it till next update :)

Yeah, the UI isnt the best, but the first goal is to get playback and login routines rock-solid - then i'll go for the visual stuff :)

Did you have any local characters in you previous password, like åäö or so?

Really nice! UI needs improvements as someone said already.

One observation. Qtify hangs if you change from WLAN to 3G while playing music. Can someone confirm this?

Re: Announcement: Qtify (spotify client) released

Qtify worked on wlan and 3g for me. I get these pauses every 10 seconds or so, I guess it's the random sound dips you mentioned. And the problem is not despotify, since despotify and despotify-simple both play songs without problems. Let me know if I can help in some way.

But besides that, I really like Qtify and see great potential! Keep up the good work!

@Froztell
type
:connect
in despotify to connect.
type
:?
for help. It doesn't have many features but it can play songs.

You can also try despotify-simple.

Yes, but if you change the connection while playing it hangs after ~15-30 seconds.
  • Connect WLAN
  • Launch Qtify and start playback
  • Change connection to Packet data (3G)
  • Wait for 15-30 secs

Re: Announcement: Qtify (spotify client) released

I am using current version and getting the above mentioned issues. I do currently have a free account. When logging in Qtify seems to crash. When running despotify directly it simply says OFFLINE. I am of course not offline. ;)

The crash takes place after 'Updating playlists'. I do have playlists, so that isn't the cause of the issue.

Seems like an issue with the despotify build since it claims I am OFFLINE.

anyone else got sound playback issues? mine does take some glitches (or short pauses) if i put qtify on background. if its open on my display = no problems.

I got the same problem, i will look it up tonight, i think it's a thread priority issue. The priority may get lowered during background play.

One of the most importan feuture now at least I think is auto-login. I believe it's a pain to have to type username + password everytime you want to listen to music...

How is it funny? :) Let´s make it better...

Re: Announcement: Qtify (spotify client) released

few comments...

- Login takes quite long... sometimes it shows Updating playlist sometimes not.
- Song glitches when display dims out.
- Play-button, mostly it works for me as pause - button, but if i select a song and press play-button nothing happens... i can start playback only by double clicking a song.
- It seems that sometimes after a 5-6songs, Qtify crashes... well, only once it has done that.
- Qtify works on my home wlan, but not in my work wlan... work sucks :D
- the playlist down-arrow is a bit small to be used by fingers.

- i tested running qtify in 3G - network in my car through FM-transmitter, oddly the sound seems to be better than the default player on N900

when the login/playing problems are solved, just add shuffle-play and offline mode ;) ...should be no problem, right?:D;)

Great!

Hexagoon, so when will spotify's offline mode be implemented :D , I know it's probably very hard, but what do you think? I know despotify doesn't have it.

I can confirm this, there's in my point of view a big difference, wierd?

Offline mode would be great, but that requires that someone picks up the despotify project right? Are there developers on despotify atm?

Ofcourse it says offline before you've logged in. Either way it doesn't work with a free account so that's probably what is causing the crash. You can test your account by actually logging in with despotify.

to do this, as I've mentioned before,
run xterm
type despotify
type :
it should now say command> at the bottom
type connect
it will ask for username and password

I guess it will tell you that login failed or something if you use a free account. I don't know, I only have a premium account.

A new and highly experimental version is on its way to the repositories now(0.0.2), i tried to get rid of the sound-dips (it might have gotten worse though ;))

Keep on testing guys, you are awesome!

updated to current version and rebooted n900 to make sure nothing interrupts qtify...

and: still some pauses in playback if i mess with backgrounding, but! if i just leave as it is it works nicely :)

i think maemo needs more optimized software than despotify to play without glitches. cpu was really stressed when i looked conky.

youre going right way with qtify. its greate software and does what its supposed to do. thank you sir :)

*logging is faster.
*sound-dips are still there e.g when screen go dark and some other program needs to do anything, load webpage or scroll.
*password in clear text untill pressing login.
*screen serch button is gone. good thing as long u dont use onscreen keyboard.
