Re: N900 MODs - share your MODs!!

warning to backup all the icons before doing these changes.

I replaced about 20 icons and caused the desktop to lag like crazy (5+ seconds). It only went away when I compressed the PNG's and removed a few shortcuts (not widgets) from my desktop.

I believe there is a low memory threshold in the desktop which can be hit if the icons are too large...

Re: N900 MODs - share your MODs!!

@ Bugelrex, I just checked and my own newly installed desktop icons are 12kb each....
ok, if you fill you're whole screen with them,
it might become a problem.

But if you take care and use the correct size
in the correct directory there shouldn't be a problem.
It might have been the problem that you had just too many icons
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
and you are right to warn people that
things can go wrong.
(this is the modding section....of course things can go wrong here :p)

But I guess (and hope, I know I do)
that everybody who upload things,
tests their stuff and make sure that it runs smoothly
before posting it here.

Updated screenshot with own modified icons

From Left to right >
Phone / Phone book / Internet
Conversations/ Mail

If anybody is interested I can upload them.
(But I have not finished the whole
Rabbit-package yet, this is just a preview)

Feedback appriciated :D (as always LOL)

Can anybody explain how I can get my image to be expandable like all others here...it is almost not visible now :(

Have a look in the /etc/systemui directory.
The callui.xml file controls the 'phone' menu item.
The systemui.xml controls the other menu items. Some of these items
already have <icon> tags so it should be easy to add them to the other menu items.

(all this already explained by carsten in an earlier post I believe)

Of course I searched and read through this thread.
Maybe I missed it, not too hard in this monster thread ;-)

However, still don´t know where to find those icons...

A couple attempts at a physical looking virtual keyboard. Second is a variation of a the first with a dark brushed metal texture. Just extract the .PNGs from your chosen .ZIP to the images directory of your theme (after backing up originals).

This one turned out better than I thought it would. I was going for a wooden typewriter look. The key presses need to be seen in action, as they look very realistic :D,

Edited: Fixed the shading on the extra punctuation key.

A brass typewriter keyboard and grayscale version, also with nice key presses.

Re: N900 MODs - share your MODs!!

hi !

I would like two main hacks :

- a battery charging icon not moving all the time like nokia one, but more a static one (like on GNOME desktop in ubuntu), showing real level of battery while charging, with an indicator to see that its charging (like a green dot on it or a plug icon emblem)

- and i would like a full width top bar on desktop, not just a variable-width one , i want my desktop top panel looking exactely like others on the system apps....

can someone help me ?

thanks

When i got you right,
Settings > Text input > Use virtual keyboard.

Edit (Think i got you wrong :) ) : The files go to usr/share/themes/XXX/images

XXX = name of the used theme

Re: N900 MODs - share your MODs!!

My new Mod : Color- Booster :)
I was tired of this plain colored UI.....

Just edit the file urs/share/themes/xxx/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
The place to look for starts @ line 207
Or just look out for :
######################
#
# Logical color definitions
#
######################

The colors there are in Hex Code.
There is much more changeable in this file. Lets see what we can get out of this.

The Pics show my Modded Matrix Theme :

http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/581...0021516133.png
http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/8...0021516154.png

Gonna kill my N900 in the about one hour. I want to find out how to change the font. Replacing the font in that file it did nothing. Im gonna start to replace the originals.
I will post results later.

Re: N900 MODs - share your MODs!!

CHANGING SYSTEM FONTS (easy guide)

http://www.mediafire.com/file/fegr2o23u4d/n900fonts.rar

just put the 4 font files:
nosnb.ttf
nosnr.ttf
nosns.ttf
nscnr.ttf

into:
usr/share/fonts/nokia

reboot phone and reapply any widgets back to the homescreen if they are missing

the 4 font files apply to different parts of the phone,
you could have 4 different fonts running at once,
on different parts of the phone if you wanted

here ive just included 4 copies of the same font 'alba'
and renamed them to the above names

to apply a different font you must reapply the nokia original font first, (there included here) and reboot phone,
then apply your font files and reboot

Re: N900 MODs - share your MODs!!

i tried 4 fonts, 3 of them worked, 1 did not, had to reapply original system fonts and reboot phone every time between trying new ones, not sure why but thats for other brains to figure out, but the alba font definitely works

Re: N900 MODs - share your MODs!!

Re: N900 MODs - share your MODs!!

@optix try putting the original font back then remove battery, then try the alba fonts, i used winscp and the font changes while i watch but i reboot to make sure.

@lobi earl ive been trying to change various phone apps text for months, cant seem to find any, maybe its not as easy as symbian was

and i still cant see a virtual keyboard any where in my device even after applying it in settings!

OptX 2010-02-15 18:19

Re: N900 MODs - share your MODs!!

Maby i modded a bit too much :)
I flashed my N900, and did the same thing. Now it works.
MC did that job too.

Re: N900 MODs - share your MODs!!

was thinking it could of been theme dependent for a moment there, but glad its fixed, i think the font i posted is missing the euro sign, that, and any other missing digits in other fonts can be fixed with a font editor

rolan900d 2010-02-15 18:39

Re: N900 MODs - share your MODs!!

Even the Alba ones are no go for me...

Lobi_Earl 2010-02-15 18:42

Re: N900 MODs - share your MODs!!

hmm what fonts editor can be used and how, just recordnized the € sign problem.
I live in Germany so its quite neccessary to have it... :)

I think that the first font funked up something in the N900. I had the same problem. My first font did not show up, after that, no font @ all worked. After flashing my N900, everything when fine, even with mc. I took a other "selfmade" font and it worked right from the start. Have to find a good site where the fonts have äüö :)
I hope you find a other way then flashing ....

leetut 2010-02-15 19:49

Re: N900 MODs - share your MODs!!

i think when a problem happens(dodgy font maybe?) , the phone starts reading a different font, maybe the droid one, you have to put the original fonts back and reboot phone and wait till its reading the originals again, before trying to make any changes again, sometimes there no probs and i could swap a font for a different one, but if a problem did happen doing this fixed it for me
