Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

Arrgh!!! What did I do? I had internet2.voicestream.com as my apn for my GPRS connection, changed it to epc.tmobile.com to see if I could connect to the internet with that, which I could not. I then switched it back to internet2.voicestream.com and now I can't connect with that either! Help!!

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

Hi,

I'm in trouble with T-Mobile Germany.

I hope I understood everything right, I did the following steps:

1.) Installed latest fMMS 0.3.1
2.) Set Proxy in the the internet connection settings to mms.t-d1.de but deactivated the checkbox
3.) Tried so send an mms:
Sending failed:
Error: -3 Name or Service not known.
Please make sure your APN settings are correct.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Bye
MPW

/edit: okay my fault. I set the ip directly now with the port 8080. And I've been on wifi - stupid.

But it still doesn't work. When sending an mms, he tries to send it for minuites and doesn't succide.

/edit2: After about 5 minuites I get:

Error: 110 Connection timed out
Please make sure....
(Probably when the phone goes back to wifi).

Has anybody experiences with t-mobile germany? Which settings do I need? Thanks for tips.

/edit3: Now I tried it with a second apn, set up all settings. I still can't send any mms. When I click on send - the programm freezes.

Does anybody of you live in germany and tried out this with t-mobile germany and could help me?

Bye
MPW

Why don't you simply install fMMS from extra-devel repository???

What data plan are you using? It may depend on that. I have an older grandfathered plan which may make a difference. Are you using what used to be the T-Zones plan? Check the T-Mobile subforum at Howardforums.

Thanks for getting back to me. Turns out I had left "Auto-retrieve IP address" unchecked when changing back to internet2.voicestream.com. Not sure why I thought that was unchecked in the first place. Lack of sleep maybe? I thought I had either "broken" something or T-Mobile had flagged my account for something.

I now have it all working under the T-Mobile Internet (GPRS) connection using epc.tmobile.com, although I have both "Use proxy" and "Automatic configuration" checked. Am now able to both send and receive MMS messages!!

Nicely done everyone (frals especially)!

i managed to finally get fmms to work on my n900 and with At&t USA so if you need the settings let me know as it can be kinda tricky..

also your gonna have to add a new catalog in app manager if you do not see the catalog saying maemo extras-devel than you WILL not be able to download fmms. as it will not show up ..

What hope with my fMMS?
I send message and see status 'OK' but nobody don't receive my message. I try send MMS myself. And now i see in list unread incoming message, but can't read it. fMMS say:
fMMS: failed to download MMS message.

That's great you were able to get it running on AT&T! I would greatly appreciate the settings you used. Thanks -ed

microchip 2010-02-02 02:19

Just wanted to say after some fiddling with proxy settings, I've got this working on my N900 on T-Mobile UK. Didn't seem to like the proxy setup at first, but after poking it a few times, it's started to play ball, and is downloading messages perfectly.

There's only 2 requests I have really - no doubt to add to the zillions of others you've already got - and while I'm not familiar with coding for a device (yet), I get a feeling I may end up being by the time my journey with this kit is over...

Anyway, I digress. The 2 things I'd love to be able to do are [a] be able to auto-resize a picture down to the screen height/width (at the moment, if you get a large pic sent via MMS, it'll come up huge on the screen, and you have to scroll around it), and the ability to save the pictures off (which I'm guessing isn't quite so trivial as it sounds).

I'm sure the above has probably been mentioned somewhere in the thread. I went quite a way back, but there's a lot to go through. If it's already been said, then I do apologise.

Aside from that... thank you. Thanks for saving us from an MMS-less world. It's really appreciated!

Frals, when I update my fmms to the latest version, It failed to downloading the MMS through I can see the mms folder. And when I tried to delete the mms. There is no repesponse when I click " yes" to confirm the deleting action.

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

this is awesome, everytime I GET a picture message, it opens it. its slick, looks great. works great....no delete button...DOOH.

I guess thats what you get for an alpha.

In the future I'd like to see better integration with the built in messaging and IM window. Just saying, icing on the cake.

Apparently it IS doable. I recently came across an instance of that very one filechooser which was was sorted by newest first, I just don't remember which app has triggered this :) Nonetheless it proves it can be done somehow. Crossing finger you'll figure that one out :)

Cool - if you do find out which application is doing this please let me know so I can take a look at the code ;)

If you go back to the main screen and tap-and-hold on the message, you should get a menu to popup where you can delete the message. :)

Regarding Conversations integration, hopefully I'll know if it's doable by the end of the week ;)

Planning to do autoresize on incoming - it should be an easy fix :).
For saving pictures, tap-and-hold on the image, press "Open" and it should launch the picture in the "Image viewer" application from where you can save it etc :)

Thanks for all the great feedback!

Does it leave connection opened after sending and downloading, or it's just me?
If it does, I like to see automatic disconnection, as an option atleast.

Needs to be accessed through the terminal: cat /tmp/fmms.log, use hardware volume buttons to zoom in and out to fit more on screen for copying and pasting ;)

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

I'm having problems getting fmms to download the messages. I have the settings per the wiki, and the sms push pops up showing mms recieved. i open fmms, and there are the messages. Manually connect to the access point(AT&T MMS in my case), and the pop up goes to "opening message", then failure to download.

If i use the access point at&t mms , i can browse the internet and do anything else. would this indicate that the access point is good and something else is wrong?

fMMS works fine for me, my only problem is because i have had to make a new APN for the MMS when i go out of range of the Wireless at home it defaults to the MMS APN instead of Orange UK's Internet APN. Is there anywhere to state the priority of APN's?

I faced similar problem before, which made me quietly thinking whether fMMS should NOT use APN profiles set via "Internet connections" in general Settings menu, but use some other way of establishing own, independent GPRS connection...

As I stated before, establishing seamless connections seems to be doable -- now question that frals needs to ask... perhaps Nokia @Espoo itself is: how? :)

many, MANY thanx frals from making this vital app for n900 available!
got this "could not download mms from server" -notification from 0.2.9.* -version of fMMS, but now with the newest version that bug is fixed and sw is working just fine!

again, thanks and godspeed! :)
