Ah ok. It's just that in the list of settings for different operators on that wiki pages, some have connection type a GPRS and some have it as packet data, so I thought they were different things.

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

@frals
How would I completely uninstall / remove all traces of fMMS?
(in search of trying to figure out why fmms looks weird on my N900)

1. I've removed it via apt-get.
2. Then deleted all folders/files that has "fmms" from the command find -name '*fmms*' (from root)
3. Deleted /home/user/.fmms/
3. Reinstalled fmms 3.6.2

It still shows the previous configuration information when launched.
Where is it pulling that information from?

It's so weird how fmms is the only app that doesn't look right regardless of what theme I use... =(

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

Hello Frals, in the new version, the scrolling is working again. But there a still a delay between each action before the fmms react again (about 5-10s). And all the message still show as from 1 contact (the last one which i received) rather than the real contact that send the message. that' all :D

Did the apt-get update(don't know if it does anything alone) and after that installed the new 0.3.6-2 and it works like a charm now!

Thanks for your help and thanks for making this great program for us frals! :)

Don't know if it's already on your list, but one nice upgrade would be to be able to send multiple images, receiving multiple images works great already. :)

There are some gconf-keys saved as well under /apps/fmms in gconf. These shouldn't interfere with the theming in anyway though. :p Still at loss why your theming is weird, did you launch it from terminal to see if you got any error messages?

Do you get the loading indicator while it doesn't react? In that case its loading the listview again which might take some time. Could you send me /tmp/fmms.log? Instructions are all over the last ~3 pages.

@MikZ: Yeah somewhere down the line, focus for now is to get it to send one picture reliably and fix the more critical bugs ;)

Yes, it's only a thumbnail of the actual picture. The actual picture being sent is depending on what the "Image resize width" value is.

Thank you, I guess it comes down to my really ineffiecent addressbook implementation. Feel free to remove the attachment as it contains private information. :)

You could try to install it trough x-term then...
go to root ( you got to have accsess to root with rootsh for example)
apt-get install fmms

that should do it

Thanks for the fast reply frals :D, you are doing a magnificent work

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

Just uploaded 0.4.0. Fixed annoying bug where it would match against the wrong phonenumber some times, it really shouldnt now :) Also removed some excessive logging and added the time it takes for the listview to be drawn.

Also added autoconnect ability, which is VERY EXPERIMENTAL. This may feature needs to be enabled by setting the gconfkey at /apps/fmms/exp to int(1). It still fetches the settings from the osso-connectivity stuff so you'll most likely still have to have the annoying APN there as well.
This feature is most likely not to work if your operator got a private network when on GPRS and you are on a private wlan with the same subnet addresses, otherwise it *MIGHT* work. ;-)

As usual, full sources are at http://gitorious.org/fmms/fmms

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

Frals

Upon installing fmms through the xterm using the latest verion 0.04 I got various install errors for dependacies

python-conic
and python-hildon

anyone know how to fix this problem?

frals 2010-02-16 01:31

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

apt-get install python-conic python-hildon

Probably easiest to get it from extras-devel as that pulls all the dependencies automatically ;)

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

ok i got installed quick question do I still need to use fapn , I am asking because once i got fmms installed it ask me for mmsc server

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

I got this setup over the weekend. Then my N900 would auto connect to the Tmo MMS APN instead of the normal T-Mobile one. I tried renaming, even added a new APN with the normal settings. Still defaulted to the MMS APN.

So I switched the settings between the regular and MMS APN's. Renamed them appropriately. Now it's defaulting to regular apn. Worked out great.

Thanks frals for all the great work.

Dude, it's been posted again and again. The easiest way to install it is to just add the Extras-Dev catalog into your app manager.

Tap-and-hold on the image should bring up a context menu where you can open it in the Image Viewer and from there Save/Crop/whatever :)

Cant update or install the lastest version 0.4.0-1, it keep giving a conflicting error.

jurop88 2010-02-16 16:36

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

Here installed 0.4.0-1, tested with a self sent MMS

operator H3G Italy, the 'proxy trick' works, so no new APN to set but just inserted proxy datas enabling it and then disabling it leaving data there
sequence worked flawlessly (i'll add to the wiki)
- before the test, standard data connection open + connection to galk and skype account and application manager downloading in the background
- started and used fmms to compose a mms + image
- fmms sent the message without complaining anything
- ten minutes after, received sms push, appmanager still downloading (playing with new QT demos...)
- fmms launched itself and connected to acces point via proxy - download of application manager suspended as expected and message 'not possible to connect to some services' or whatever is the translation in english appeared
- mms downloaded automatically
- fmms showed the mms
- application manager resumed download and skype+gtalk account restarted

sidenote: exactly after having received the sms push, the phone rang and I had a phone talk via speakers looking how everything was going on in the background reading the messages on the screen :D

I honestly think frals made a great job, thank you!

Thanks frals for all the great work.

Can you be a bit more explicit, Lemmy?

I have this problem on Orange UK. The issue is that the MMS apn won't let me browse using microB or use witter, though I can read email. So if I'm on the 'wrong' connection, I'm stumped.

Can you tell me what you did? I'd really like to have this solved.

Thanks
K

Tab-and-hold does at least not work for a new MMS. And it would be so nice to rotate and crop a picture before sending it out... frals - pleease ;-)

Uh, it's a weeee bit too much to reimplement since it's already in the Image Viewer, I *think*, so I'm gonna say edit it in the imageviewer first - this should be more natural when the "Share via"-service is implemented ;)

Sorry for a stupid question, but where is this conf-file located at?
There's no such a directory as /apps/fmms/exp

:)

frals 2010-02-16 17:06

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

It's not actually a conf-file, its a gconf-key ;-)

gconftool-2 --set /apps/fmms/exp --type int 1

should do the trick, and to disable it replace the 1 with a 0 ;)

EDIT: NOTE: this feature is REALLY experimental, and it might get you weird routes, occupying all the gprs connections and what not - a reboot should clear it in most cases thou (or a simple ifconfig gprs<N> down) in my experience... ;)

Yes, when you receive and image that was smaller then when you sent it thats your provider shrinking it (because they can't read headers properly or just refuse to do it :p).

Either by opening the sent message in fMMS or by checking the file manually in /home/user/.fmms/sent/<somenumber>/filename.

Have setup on T-Mobile UK.

Sending MMS comes up with an error message "Error: 104 Connection reset by peer please make sure that APN settings are correct"

However the message sends fine.

Recieving mms doesen't work just says "Trying to download" then failed.

d-iivil 2010-02-16 18:09

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

Seems to work fine with autoconnect enabled on my device while connected to WIFI-network :)

Edit #1: works fine with 3G GPRS access point enabled
Edit #2: and the carrier is Saunalahti, Finland.
