Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

First, sorry if I have missed something in some earlier post about this.

Regarding the User Agent string. Is there currently a way to let us change it? I'm in Japan and the Softbank network here will check the User Agent to determine if the phone originates from Softbank. If it's not a model sold by them, they block the sending and receiving of MMS.

I'd like to spoof the User Agent but not sure where I can make the change.

Thanks for you help in advance.

Oh, found it. I substituted in the required User Agent and also the URL for the User Agent and now I can send and receive MMS to myself.

However, I see that we currently cannot send to email addresses. Also, if the MMS originates from an email address then the download of the MMS fails. I don't know if you are aware of this. The reasoning for me is that in Japan lots of people use MMS as a form of phone email and pretty much everyone will have some phone email address to send MMS to instead of using the phone number itself (you cannot send SMS cross networks here, only MMS).

Either by opening the sent message in fMMS or by checking the file manually in /home/user/.fmms/sent/<somenumber>/filename.

oh darn... well thanks mate...

my sent folder pic is big but the receive one is so smal....

ahh ok thanks. so the push sms is a normal thing that i would have got if i didnt install fmms?

cheers

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

Hi guys & Frals,
Just to say this is now working great for me (not that it wasn't before). I'm on O2 in the UK and the other day I got home and O2 had decided to send me some new connection settings (anyone else on O2 get this?) - my APN is now O2 Post Pay GPRS - first I was annoyed for letting it through and overwriting my original settings, as it now uses a wap apn.

But saying that, I later received an MMS from a friend - and amazingly, it was on my phone when I looked at it! I picked up my phone and the notification of the push sms was there alongside the new MMS notification! I was very much impressed!

Now I just need to make sure I'm not being charged differently for my internet access!

With version 0.4.0 I've not seen any problems, though I've only passed mms between Tmobile and other o2 users. All works smoothly so far.
Thanks again.

Great that you found it. Out of curiosity, what UA do you need to send? Would Nokia N97 suffice?

Hmm.. Never tried that as my carrier doesn't allow it - could you email me /tmp/fmms.log when you try to download an MMS sent from an email address? <myusername>@frals.se

Thanks! :)

No, the push sms is added by fMMS as well. Without fMMS the push sms would just be ignored and you'd never know about it (unless your operator sends you a "real" sms with a link to the MMS instead ;))

fMMS 0.4.0 Experience

Using fMMS 0.4.0

1. The auto-connect feature works with T-Mobile US when sending an MMS. This is very cool!:)

2. The auto-connect feature appears to fail when receiving an MMS.

MMS will download if I manually change access point after receiving the "fMMS failed to download" message.

3. The list of sent MMS does not reflect what I have actually sent. I am unable to figure out exactly what the pattern is here.

4. The list does not reflect the correct sender for the MMS I have received. The name of the next to last person to whom I sent an MMS is shown as the sender even when it is from a different person.

5. fMMS receives via MMS *.mp3 files that will play. It does not want to accept for sending *.mp3 files.

I was unable to locate the /tmp/fmms.log so I am unable to attach it.

Is there a plan for adding a "detach and save as" function for the files received via MMS, or have I missed it?

it did say for sending pictures only...

also you can save pictures by double tapping and it will open it then u can press and hold to save . not sure about mp3

Re: fMMS 0.4.0 Experience

Thank you for mentioning tapping the photo. A long press on the filename bar at the bottom of the MMS opens the mp3 in the Media Player which then allows me to save it as a playlist. A long press on an image brings up the "Open" pop-up which then opens the file and allows for saving. Double tapping had no result on my device.

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

tried again this morning but no luck, heres what i did -

downloaded and installed fapn from application manager

then installed fmms using xterminal

it installed but there were a few errors, not sure if this is normal or not?

turned off the phone / did a restart

once back on i go into meun and more and both apps are there. click on fapn and add a name, go into settings and change them.

then click on fmms it opens, the loading thing at the top goes round, then it closes and goes onto desktop.

all comments welcome?

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

The "few errors" are probably about outdated/missing libraries, which is why it isn't working. I suggest to install it from extras-devel as it will automatically suck in the right dependencies that way. :)

EDIT: Btw, 0.5.0 uploaded and with it sharing-fmms... Share via service, yey! ;)

download what from where sorry?

download fmms from app manager?

frals 2010-02-21 10:44

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

Yes, from app manager where you have to enable "extras-devel". If you need instructions about that there is a wiki-page and numerous threads about it :)

Be aware that programs in -devel are unstable and may harm your device (fMMS included, but it shouldnt... I think ;)).

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

I tryed the share before opening fmms for the first time after update, and when fmms opened due to share it popped up the configuration window you get the first time you open fmms. But due do accessing fmms through share you can't click save or close the dialog. You actually can't kill it at all, it forces itself to stay on top, so can't even access desktop, not even with shortcutd.
Even tryed ctrl shift x, but still forces itself to stay on top. Had to boot.

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

After a couple of fMMS-free weeks, I downloaded and tested version 0.5.0 now.

I had a couple of issues I couldn't reproduce (message sent on N900 but never received on other end, fMMS freezing while re-sizing image) and will investigate, but there's one thing I noticed immediately: contact handling.

I have three contacts in my contact database that share the same name. Two of them are actually the same person (=me), but I split the entry so that I could send VCards to business contacts without giving away my private details and vice versa. The third one is my father; our first name is the same.

What happens in fMMS?

The main view, the list of all contacts, always shows the picture of my father for MMS messages that I sent to myself from my main phone or from the N900 to my main phone. (I don't use the N900 as a phone normally.) It seems the lookup is done by name rather than by number.

Even worse, when I send a message and select entries from the address book, only one of the three entries shows up. (Interesting: This time it's not my father, it's the entry that holds my private contact details.) This means that I can send an MMS to my own private phone, but not to my father and not to my business phone. (Unless I manually type in the number - but I like to use the address book.)

I don't know if the logic is new to v0.5 or if it was there before and simply not that obvious (photo), but it certainly is unusual.

The "disappearing messages" issue is somewhat disturbing, but I plan to add delivery-reports on outgoing messages at sometime which should resolve it ;).

Yeah, it currently does a lot by name, never thought about people who had contacts with the exact name :) Either way, Jaffa is pushing some patches to python-evolution so hopefully I'll get this worked out soon(tm) ;)

@andy_con: None here is telepathic, we have no idea what "errors" you are encountering unless you provide us with that information.

hi frals, are you planing on adding "Share via fMMS" in picture gallery?

this would be a nice touch.

also today i clicked on fmms to view a previous mms pic and it loaded app then it looked like it closed it so i clicked on fmms again done the same but few seconds later it poped up and i had 2 instanse of fmms running. I tried to open 2 again but it seems its working again fine.

Thanks

Latest version got this if you install from -devel (it should suck it in automatically, otherwise install sharing-fmms). ;)

Yeah sometimes you can open more messages at the same time, not fixing it for now as its a minor issue :)

Depends on your operator, check http://wiki.maemo.org/MMS if anyone got it working with your operator :)

Run in x-terminal: cp /tmp/fmms.log /home/user/MyDocs/
After that you'll see fmms.log in filemanager or when you connect the device to your desktop as a mass storage device.
E-mail the log to me, <my forum username here>@frals.se

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

Hello everybody, and thanks to you, frals.

I am testing fmms since ver 0.4 with Telia (Sweden) as operator.

Everything is working just fine. I have set up according to the wiki-post for Telia, and have just now enabled automatic connection and that worked just fine (at least it sent an mms addressed to myself, while I was connected to wlan, and at the push-sms if fetched the mms just fine.

I have installed 0.5 and tested the sharing-plugin, and it worked fine too.

One BIG thank you, to you frals for doing this. Not that mms was a show-stopper for me (e-mail works just fine) but now at least my wife can't tease me for buying a phone that doesn't support mms (we have a little phone war at home, she's a SE-fan)

Keep up the good work.

Regards
/oxpo

Ok, for some reason I have now got this working.

Anyway, the correct setting for MMSC is

http://mms.um.three.co.uk:10021/mmsc

I have changed it in the Wiki.

Filling in and then greying out the "use proxy" fields in the "3" APN seems to work fine; you don't need to make a new "3 MMS" APN.

(Using version fMMS 0.3.6)

Mine is giving me a message something like 'your balance is too low' ???

What contract do you have?Sim only right?
