hi Frals first of all its a very good job u have done with this fmms situation, secondly i have been trying to send mms after the instalations of the 2 apps. (fmms,fapn) but nothing work for me.
these are the parameters:
APN: mms.tigo.hn
mmsc: http:// mms
proxi: 010.016.017.012

and an error appears on the screen that says" service not known, please make sure your apn settings are correct"
i have cheked the seetings from my internet seetings provided for the operator. wich is www.tigo.com.hn and i am completely sure these are the settings

right now i am performing a reflash with the system NSU. then i will try to re-enter all the parameters hopefully will work, otherwise i will write back to u so maybe u can help me with this.

1) I don't understand why I receive picture only with one size... Only with max width 240 :confused: It depends on my cellular provider ?

2) I always have to write something in the text-line. And only in english language... without text don't sended correctly...
is it normal ?

hi peeps, like the app very much and almost have it figured but need some help.I am in the UK on T mobile and have made a new APN but i am not sure what settings to use when editing it in settings so all the download attempts fail.Can anyone give me some pointers?

Try send MMS with short text in message field. In my case MMS without text don't sended correctly :(

Hey frals,

i have the same problem that someone posted earlier. I can recieve mms fine and when i send it will tell me it has been sent but no one ever recieves them. i tried making a log but when i do

cp /tmp/fmms.log /home/user/MyDocs/
i get the error. cp: cannot stat '/home/user/mydocs/': Path has non-directory component

so i tried cp /tmp/fmms.log /home/user/MyDocs
and nothing happens.
any advice would be great, thanks.

Try proxy-IP without the starting zeros (10.16.17.12). I recall frals has said this earlier in the thread.

i used the fmms share thingy successfully in sending a picture. after this I was playing with healthchech application and used reboot inside that. when I got back to desktop fmms was resharing the picture. it didn't send it, but it reopened fmms.

not very serious, but thought I'd report.

I think this is the HTTP server at the MMS service center saying that the uploaded MMS is too large. My operator places a 300KB limit on messages, though I think if I go over this I get charged for 2 or more messages, but your operator may just say "the message is larger than 200kb, no can send"

Alter the setting in fmms concerned with resizing the picture, so that the whole message gets smaller.

Suggestion for frals: Maybe fmms can accept a maximum size that a message should be and it can repeatedly resize images in the background until the size limit is met, preserving maximum quality?

A little question for you frals:

Here: https://garage.maemo.org/frs/shownot...elease_id=3337 you (frals) write "video/audio icon showing when attaching those mimetypes".
Does this mean that fmms is getting closer to sending other things than pictures through mms?

Try adding some text to the message, seems Telenor NO won't accept it otherwise - I'm looking into it :)

1) Yes, some providers don't respect the headers sent and just assume the cellphone is old and stupid and can't handle bigger stuff ;)

2) Seems like there are some issues with text encoding, I'm looking in to it

About the suggestion... It would take ages to get it to send the message (and basically MMSC aren't sending proper error codes most of the time). Before 1.0 the plan is to change the configuration a tad so there is a choice between "Small/Medium/Large" image basically which would set the resize to proper values that should work with most providers (also possibility to override it with a gconfkey for those who want to change it :p)

Try it and see what happens ;-)

Basically it's all there (should be, anyway ;)), but there is no resize/downsampling or anything so most of what people are going to try to send won't work due to the files being _huge_ relative to an MMS. :)

I am having the same problem, I have gone over all the numbers set up the APN nothing seems to work. I have seen a few others with the same issue as well. I know Frals is busy and I appreicate his work, so I will continue to watch and hope it will be fixed in future builds.

I've had a problem when at home and my N900 picks up my WiFi network. fMMS fails to send, saying something about being unable to contact the MMS server (i'll dig up the log file when I get home this evening - I'm in the US, using T-Mobile). If I turn off the WiFi connection and only connect with T-Mobile, it's happy to send the message.

Other than that, your application works very nicely for me. MMSs come and go as I would expect them to.

I need to send some to my relatives in Ireland, just to make sure there are no issues with that - not expecting any.

Im trying to install fMMS but cant
I installed the other program first
Whenever i try to install fMMs it says:

"Unable to install 'fMMS'
Some application packages required for the installation are missing."

When i click on Details it says under the Problem tab:

"Unable to install 'fMMS'
Application packages missing: python-hildon (>=0.9.0-1maemo15)"

Another question...
1) Why when I delete messages from application and after this if I look in to the folder: /home/user/.fmms/mms and /home/user/.fmms/sent I see all messages here... Why it's not deleted from device ?

2) Why app can not send/receive gif animated picture ?
If I get animated picture, phone try to download message, but can't, and I can't open this message...

3) If I send in a language other than English (hebrew) it's sent, but other phone can't receive this message..

Greap App. I have been using it since you first brought it out the first time. Im having an issue now. Sometimes i'm able to open the received messages and other times im not. It will begin downloading and suddenly stop when i click on the message. the file will never open. it has happened recently a lot. other messages i open fine but some from certain people i cant open. is there a fix to this or is there a way to open it through the terminal and can you tell me how please... or anyone if they can help id appreciate it. thank you

I hope i am writing this in the right place. i don't make a lot of posts on here so i hope this is right. I downloaded fmms and it seems to work just fine for receiving mms but i can't send them. i followed all the instructions for making sure i have the proper settings but i still can't send msg's any help at all is appreciated

Hi all,

I'm a bit new to all this tech that's on the N900 and am having problems with the fMMS app. I've got it installed, and I am able to send a receive messages. However, when I click in a message to download it, I just get the message "Failed to donwload MMS message" and it won't display anything further.

I have checked all my connection settings to the guide, and they are correct. Is there any reason why this will not open / download the picture file?

I'm on T-Mobile in the UK. Any ideas?

Yup - sure did. That was my first step, before adding fmms.I;m quite sure that I have the correct APN for T-Mobile, and have even restarted the phone after any changes. Still not working though.

Could it be that it's a problem with the picture that has been sent to me?

could it be possible to add a progress bar for when sending a mms? or any kind of actual clue that the file is moving. The spinning circle keeps spinning even if not connected, so kind of a bad clue on what's happening :)

Hey frals

About encoding - other phone can get messages in hebrew from other phones, not from my fmms app.... SMS ok...

I test it again...
I sent 2 messages - Ok
I received 2 messages = 1 static picture and 1 gif animation.
Message with gif animation I can't open.

I deleted 3 messages (two messages I sent, and one with static pic I received). I left the message with gif animation.

Now I look in to the /home/user/.fmms/mms - I see the gif animated message, It's okay, I'm not deleted this message. And message with static picture not here, it's deleted = OK.
I look in to the /home/user/.fmms/sent - and see all two my messages I sent and deleted from app :-(

Resume:
1) I can't open messages with gif animated picture
2) I can delete received messages from application and it's deleted from: /home/user/.fmms/mms
3) Messages I sent and delete from app - not deleted from /home/user/.fmms/sent

My log file here...


Another small problem ...
If I want to add a contact, I type a contact's name, but the app is not looking for the name ... I always have to scrolling to get the name... :(

I'm just going to jump in here with one simple noobie suggestion for when fMMS fails to download the picture (I've not long had my phone and never had one I can play around with before ... plus I'm a complete tool when it comes to understanding all your jargon!)

I came here because of said issue, suddenly fMMS stopped working ... then it hit me after trying several things (and thinking "please got don't make me have to learn how to post logs and stuff, it took days to learn how to install fMMS!") that I wasn't connected via contract WAP, I was connected to my work's wireless somehow (despite being back home, weird!).

I changed it back to contract WAP and it works fine again now.

I'm sure this won't work for everyone, just throwing a bone to the people who are a new to this as I am lol :)

have you checked that you are connected to the correct APN when downloading the mms? I have set 2 up on mine - Tmobile MMS and web n walk - and need to be connected to the MMS one to both download and send...

If you look in frals signature (that is in the end of all his posts), there is a step by step.
You don't need root access to copy from /root/temp

does it mean to simply open the xterminal application and type in "cp /tmp/fmms.log /home/user/MyDocs/"

yes :D, if it does not work, try to install rootsh and run "sudo gainroot" before you input cp /tmp/fmms.log

Feature suggestion:

Swipe left/right for next/previous message from the message view window. I realise this is probably a non-trivial addition and it is far from being a critical feature but it would improve somewhat the application's usability as well as bring it in line with other Maemo 5 applications like the Photo viewer.

Anyone know the maximum size of an image allowed for T-mobile USA? 300 width is way too small to view.
