The update of fmms to ver 0.7 is about 96 kB, so it will not take hours to install. With latest firmware I'm talking about ver 1.1.1 that was released in february (if I remember correctly).

You have the built-in backup program in N900, that you can use. I think it saves a list of installed applications, to make an easy reinstall of programs installed (don't shoot me if this isn't right. I never had to recover any of my backup. Knock on wood)

hi all...
i'm facing some difficulty with this program. after i did the required settings for the APN & the configuration, now i tried to open any received message but i get nothing.. it show "fMMS: Trying to download MMS..." till it disappear but the message haven't be opened..
any suggestion?
this was since the old version till now, although i've updated it to V 0.7

I think you should send the logfile to frals for this one.

Hi,

Amazing job!!! Application works well :) I have used Havoc mode succesfully with sending and receiving mms files. For future I would like to see mms forward functionality(I know this has been said before) and functionality to save images to phone's memory for other usage.

Is there any way to backup received and sent mms?

Well.. folder /home/user/.fmms includes all data files which are used by fmms. So backing up those should be enough.. Please correct me if I'm wrong...

When looking at an mms, longpress on picture and click on "Open". Picture will now open in picture viewer, where you can select "Save as.." from top-menu.

For fMMS a reinstall == upgrade as uninstalling the package does not remove the settings and sent/received MMS.

Yes, I've seen this at times as well. I *think* this is actually a bug in GTK/Hildon/something else as the list is properly populated when scrolling down. I'll see if I can narrow it down and file a bug against the proper component. :)

I'll add the user-agent as a gconf-key so Softbank users don't have to modify the source code each time in the future, I meant to do this earlier but it slipped my mind tbh :)

Going to add stricter checks, currently it assumes it was sent if the MMSC responds in a proper way but I'll add a check that Response-Status is Ok :)

If you long tap on the image you can open it in the image viewer and from there save/crop/share the image :)

Yes, backing up ~/.fmms/ saves all messages. :) For settings one would have to mock around with gconf (key is /apps/fmms/) - not sure exactly how this is done tbh :)

to receive mms, must fmms run in background? or can i close fmms and it starts automatically when i receive a mms?

You don't have to have it running in the backgrond. It will start when you click on the push-sms.

Hi, I have had a whole lot of packages missing which I have installed. However the one I can't install is sharing-fmms. It says it "can't find package sharing-fmms"

FYI frals, I looked into share via service problem and was able to duplicate contacts not loading issue.

I verified that it loads my addressbook with >273 contacts. I did this by printing length of get_all_contacts in ContactHandler __init__().

But for some reason contact chooser dialog only displays 'Voicemail' as only available contact to choose from.

I'll keep digging tonight :)

BTW, if I manually launch fmms_sender, contact chooser shows all my addressbook entries. So this problem only happens when 'share via service' calls back fmms.

This issue with being launched from share vi is pretty interesting, the contact list is properly loaded if I add a line that doesnt execute until the window closes (line makes the app throw an exception), otherwise it just refuses to work... Going to do some more testing

Video / Sound in fmms?
 

First of all many thanks to frals for creating the fmms app :)

Now with mms (on other phones), it gives you the option of being able to send sound or a movie upto 300kb (I think).
With my old C902 even though it too had a 5mp camera it gave you the option of being able to record a video specifically for mms (20 seconds) then afterwards it would automatically compress it to within the 300k specification, and allow me to send a video.

Does anyone know if the N900 has the ability to do this, and if so, is it likely that we can see this being integrated into fmms or some other mms type app in the future?

If its not been suggested already, can this be a request to frals to develop this functionality to fmms. Thanks :)

Odd. Doesn't work. I also powered up my last phone and cheched its settings. Same settings for MMS AP and it sends MMSs just fine. When N900 connects no "multimedia", and the browser fails.

The old phone doesn't have the ability to ping or anything, so I'm a bit lost. On the odd(er) side, I connected with a bad password and it still connects and gives IP. Hm.

This sounds like a nice idea, although the compressing thing might make it a bit more tricky than handling pictures.

Is it not at all possible to change the resolution settings while capturing video?, I just made a 20second video and it was just under 9meg in size. Either we need to change the resolution, or in need of some serious compression if this is got a chance at working.

same problem here it says trying to download then it says failed to download mms (when trying to open)

also when trying to delete MMS all I get is failed to delete MMS :/

any fix for those?

Really weird... Did you have the proxy configured when trying to access http://multimedia/ through the browser? I guess you could call and ask their techsupport if they know what might be wrong, they might block access on IMEI or something similar (just speculating).

From what I undertand about the PR1.2 release is that there will be resolution settings for video and one of them *should* be low enough to be sent as MMS within the time constraints. Now we have to just wait and see.

I'd suggest giving Vodafone a call and tell them you want to be able to send MMS from your phone :)

EDIT: Assuming it actually connect you to the MMS APN... Try connecting manually and see if it works first :)
