Hi, I'm getting a little frustrated here...

Since 0.9.5 I haven't been able to receive although sending works fine. Incoming messages are shown in fMMS, but downloading always fails without an error message. Plus my machine doesn't seem to create a log file!

Now running 0.9.9 with the same problem, tried uninstalling/re-installing instead of just updating, nothing...

Anyone else with the same problem or better yet, a solution?

P.S. Truly loved the app when it worked!:)

The /tmp/ directory is cleared on every device reboot, might be why your log isn't showing up when you are looking for it.

Most likely cause is settings are wrong as I redid the configuration bits with 0.9.x so please double check the settings :)

sorry hadn't had to change it in nearly a week, didn't notice when the width went from a number to a choice!

Thanks for the quick reply!

But still no luck: settings OK in fMMS configuration and in the MMS APN in network connections. Besides, they can't be terribly wrong if sending works, right? And /tmp/ directory remains empty even without rebooting....

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

I have a problem since 0.9.9. FMMS needs long time to show up and doesn't show any MMS in the overview.

Error messages over console:

Code:

File "./fmms_gui.py", line 181, in cb_on_focus
self.add_butons_liststore()
File "./fmms_gui.py", line 357, in add_buttons_liststore
self.iststore.append([icon, stringline, avatar, fname, sender])
UnboundLocalError: local variable 'avatar' refeenced before assignment

Log follows asap...

Ah, I knew I'd mess something up when going over that code... Doh ;)

Should be fixed: http://gitorious.org/fmms/fmms/commi...85b634dce636b3

0.9.10 has been uploaded ;)

Hmm, can you open a terminal and type (as user): touch /tmp/fmms.log and then try opening fMMS and see if it logs anything?

I think he pre-compiles about 10 versions in advance, then just logs on and releases from the beach in Hawaii. "Did that fix it?"

I kid, I kid. Great job, we all appreciate it.

its always been safe. No bat damage or any of that stuff. The bugs that i have seen with it so far were like cosmetic and personal preff stuff. The ability to send and receive mms was there since day one. Now they are just spiffying it up a bit

recommendation...

spam/image bomb control. This is being brought up because I have a buddy that does this. I'd like to stay ahead of him...

there should be a feature to block mms from certian people, work both by number and address book looking up via normal api, regulate how many mms can be recieved by a person per min/sec, and "spam" folder for over-run, and options for mass deletion.

little much, but I like to stay ahead of my dipshit friends... :)

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

Hi frals
The version 0.9.10 working perfectly for me !!!, except 3 old things..

1) The other phone can't receive my message, if I send mms without text.

2) The other phone can't receive my message, if I send mms with hebrew text.

3) If I send the mms via "Share via service" to the specific phone SE K610. Like before, this phone can't open this file (attachment-BSMN.jpeg).

Thank you very much for your hard work :)

Just tried this with 0.9.10 sending from my N900 (Swisscom) to an iPhone (Swisscom too).

Two things happened:
  • The title was changed to "MMS" and it shows up with this text in my fmms list too.
  • On the receiving iPhone, the MMS with picture was received without problems, but there was a note saying: "This message was modified and some files were deleted" (in german though)

Anyway, sending the image worked without a problem for me. Where that message about deleted files comes from I don't know.

NOTE: MAke sure you have fAPN + Fmms installed
fMMS is located in Extras-Devel
fAPN is located in Extras-testing
Go HERE to learn more about adding more repositories to your app manager

1st - Create New APN

-Install "fAPN" from app manager (please install Fmms too if you haven't) and run the app
-Create a new APN (I call mine Tmo-mms) and click "add"

2nd - Edit APN

-go into setting (where all the icons are)
-go into "internet connection" under connectivity
-click on "connection"
-highlight your NEW APN (Tmo-mms) and click "edit"
-Hit "next" on the next window
-In *access point name*, put in "wap.voicestream.com"
-Leave everything else blank and hit "next"
-Hit "advance" on the next window
-Put a "check mark" on use proxy
-In *http proxy:*, enter 216.155.165.50, in *port #*, enter 8080 (or 9201 if 8080 fail)
-Put a "check mark" on Automatic Configuration
-In *web address*, enter http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
-Hit "SAVE", and then "Finish"
NOTE: I honestly don't know if you need to put both proxy and web address in there because if you check web address, proxy turns gray. If you uncheck web address, proxy light up. I will test and report later.

3rd - fMMS Setting

-Open fMMS, you will be prompt to put in a APN
-Enter in your newly create APN (Tmo-mms) *Case sensitive
-In *MMSC*, enter http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
-In *Resize image*, enter 300 or something lower (don't know how high is max)
-Enter your phone number at last (without dash)
-Hit "SAVE"

4th - Send MMS

-Tap on the top center (where you see fMMS V )
-Hit "New MMS"
-Put in number to sent mms to
-put in message
-put in attachment (photos)

BEFORE you hit SEND, connect to Tmo-mms first (same place where you usually connect to wifi). You can do this before Step 4 if you want. For some reason, if I don't connect to this first, it doesn't work (I will get a "network error" message).

-Hit "SEND"
-You should see a "resizing" notice and then a bunch of gibberish number/symbol/letter. This means you sent it.

I hope this help anyone out there who is having trouble with Tmo USA MMS setting. As Egoshin mentioned earlier, TMO usa user may have problem because of the secondary setting. Good luck and much thanks to FRALS for this app (and fAPN) and the work hard behind it.

Thanks guy. ya settings helped allot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also i dont have to switch my connections back n forth. i can jus leave it on my "Tmo-mms" and my internet and sms works!
Thanks again

Can I ask if fMMS was meant to allow sending/receiving video MMS's?

To my surprise, I received a video message from my wife's iphone today. I haven't been able to send a video message but I received one., and it played.

you can receive almost any type of file (video, audio, text, etc), but can send only images

fMMS 0.9.10 is not working for me at all. When I compose the message and press send it just does nothing. I am on O2-UK and have checked the settings so many times! I don't know what else to do.

I used to have the older version which worked fine for me. With 0.9.10 do you still need to make an MMS APN with fAPN?

When I put it in rude mode it will disconnect my Wi-fi or whatever is connected but then does nothing else.

No, you don't need fAPN anymore. With fMMS you can configure the APN settings directly. But check if fMMS converted the settings correctly from the older version.

That is what the rude is supposed to do. Cut out any current connection to send the mms. If you want to stay connected and send the mms then it is possible to choose the havoc option.

understood.. but i haven't received or sent any mms.. suddenly my access point will point to mms.. on "havoc" option, will there be any problem with the modem module that might require a reboot? am a bit sceptical to use that option..

Polite works for me, if I'm not connected at all. Rude never works either, just tried it. Well, I'm okay leaving it set to havoc.

I had a mate like that. I told him my new phone couldn't get MMS, so he shouldn't bother sending me any, since they'll probably bounce back a week later and fill up his in box.

Mind you, I had fMMS installed and working at the time... but it sure cut down on the 50+ pictures of cats doing odd things during the day. :)

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

Hi frals,

I've noticed on occasions that I may be out of reception when an MMS is being sent to me. The network operator doesn't resend the MMS so frequently and I do not know when they will try (or even if they will re-try). I ran into a problem where I couldn't receive a particular MMS, so I put my SIM card into my other phone (Symbian). On the Symbian phone, in the Messaging application, there is an option called "MMS notifications" which will create a connection to the network and check for any MMSs which have not been sent to my phone. I can then choose to download any of those MMSs.
This could mean some whole new view for fMMS but I think it's important since an MMS could go totally unnoticed and left there sitting on the network. One could argue that the network should try more frequently but unfortunately changing that is a lot harder...
